- Well it's Friday the 13th and nothing seems to go smooth. We have re-assembled the 81 and are ready to fire it up. Will it be good to go or will the curse of the 13th bite us? Stay tuned to find out. Bonus video later on as an old friend comes to visit, after 17 years, from half way around the world! We built a bike he had, many years ago, and it's always special when you get to revisit with friends from the past. Made my day!!

Had an old friend show up, out of the blue and made your day?
I've had good and bad luck on Friday the 13th!!! I like the 81!!!!!
I hear ya. Nothing seems to go smooth at the best of time. It just a small problem but things like that can drive me crazy... ha ha. Thanks for commenting.
Loved the lifter draining trick.
Simple thing but can be very frustrating to put the pushrods in if you don't know about this little trick. Thanks for commenting.
This motorbike is really cool.
Glad you like it, Thanks for commenting.
That’s a good looking shovel.
Thanks looking forward to getting this small issue figured out then putting a few miles on her. Thanks for commenting.
Absolutely LOVE that bike! From Virginia btw. Keep them coming.
See is sweet. Thanks for letting me know where you are from and commenting.
Fired rite up no drama I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of that tick
Hoping I can get it squared away, sometimes I am my own worst enemy when it comes to things like this. Thanks for commenting.
Very nice shovel and another good video. Stephen in Ireland 🇮🇪
Glad you liked it and thanks for lettting me know where you are from and commenting.
Good morning 🌅, great work, a shame that you still got tick ✔️ tick ✔️ ticking noise going on, good to see old friends dropping, some things I miss, as I live by myself in rural France, I think it was me I would put all new lifters in and cam , that is if money was available, save keep taking it apart, look forward to next weeks show, stay safe keep up the great work, enjoy watching somebody wrench, 🔧, from France,
Going to try lifter and then possibly the cam if it keeps up. Thanks for letting me know where you are from and commenting.
Hi again, our timing is perfect, it's 7:26 a.m. here in Queensland Australia, 35 seconds after you posted!
Wow you are on it lol. How ironic you are watching from there and this week video is featuring a visit from my old friend from there as well. Thanks for letting me know where you are from and commenting.
Another great video
Thanks glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting.
Love that old Shovelhead Ralph. I'm still working on convincing my wife to buy it. Then ride it back to Pennsylvania.
That would be quite a haul on an old shovel. Thanks for commenting.
Nice video and I’m liking the tunes too
Glad you enjoyed it Dellas. Just rolling along. Thanks for commenting.
Ralph, I love it when guys like yourself and Pacific Mike take me back to school. My heart is with the old stuff. I had 2 Shovels back in the late 70s and the 80s. Was that jeweler's magnifying head gear that you were using? Love your channel, keep up the great work...
Glad you enjoy us both working on and saving old bikes. Yes it was a magnifying head set. My old eyes sometimes need a little help. lol Thanks for commenting.
I did not know how much freeplay needed to be on a camshaft. Back and forward or in and out shall we say. Now evolutionary set at 12:00 for $13,000 but I guess it's supposed to be half there for shovelheads. Thanks for the great video
The measurement can vary .001" to .015" I think. Just like to get it close as I can but not to tight. Thanks for commenting.
@@itsmytimeletsgo always very good information Thank you. As I tend to be a well I don't call myself a mechanic I just tinker around. I try to make things run again.. sometimes large stuff sometimes small stuff 😉😀
Great video Ralph. Friday the 13th is when the pope decided to kill off the Knights Templar because he owed them too much money. Just a lil tid bit of history 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Now thats a bit of interesting info Hip. You are full of surprizes lol. Thanks for commenting.
Sometimes you have to make an educated guess .
If NASA can say let's try this and see what happens so can we .
Always new challanges and things to learn as we go. Thanks for commenting.
Another great video Ralph, I like that you like the dyna ignition, best thing I put on mine , second was an SU carb. Thanks , really enjoy your videos.
I am a hard core Dyna man, ran an SU on my Knuclehead for many years. Worked very well. Glad you are enjoying the channel. Thanks for commenting.
Hello, I have an evo 1988 flhs that was rebuilt by me had some miles on it but it never had any ticking noise until I rebuilt it put everything in new my only thing that I can see with it is that it the spring pressure of the valves even though I put in what was recommended I think they are the problem I am running a roller top end and the tick is on top I think when it rolls of top peak of the cam it makes the ticking I have tried different weight oil and the straight weight 50 in the summer works best no more noise 20/50 works as long its not above 80 outside then the tick shows back up , but this summer here was unreal over 100 a lot of days , I would have to look but my ironhead takes some real thick oil in the summer and if you forget not to change it to the thicker oil it makes all kinds of noise but for the hec of it I put back the stock cam and the tick was gone it doesn't the aggressive ramp like the after market cam but with all the money spent on my bike I put the new cam back in and the tick was back , but mine may be the roller top end on race engines they make a little noise when set right but run fine, I now have 3k on the bike runs fine no tick with the right oil you may have something else but will be interesting to see what fixes it like I said everything was new in my build , be safe and ride free
Thanks for the info. It is always nice to hear of others experiences. Thanks for commenting.
Ralph, I'm really surprised you haven't converted to the EVO style lifters?
To do that would be an expensive venture up here. It should work with OEM stye stuff. We will get it figured out. Thanks for commenting.
Hey Ralph. What's the difference between a
Low Rider
and a
Super Glide?
I am not completely sure but basically I think it is tank, exhaust and seat that are different basically. Thanks for commenting.
