Actually, Fleming was the one who came up with the idea of the double-time bongo arrangement, he is playing here on 'My Way', which he can also be heard play on the track of 'My Way' on Nina Simone's 'Here Comes The Sun' album. There is another video from a later date where Simone is even trying to play that rhythm on the piano herself without a percussionist. By the way, and which so many (even musicians!) are mistaken about, 'My Way' is NOT composed by Paul Anka, but is a French song "Comme d'habitude" composed by Jacques Revaux with lyrics by Gilles Thibaut and Claude François. Paul Anka wrote the English lyrics.

She seems frustrated in this performance. I thought it was interesting that she was singing a french song to a french audience. She must have been aware that she would be scrutinized not only for her pronunciation but also because she chose to do such a famous french song. She even says "Sorry about the words y'all." Lol, you can tell she was struggling with that the entire time. It's part of why I love her so much. I wish I could give her a hug for a good two minutes. I bet it would have been the most soulful hug ever to have been, full of understanding and unsurpassed soothing. haha My Way was the bees knees
