Dayal is such a legend. He’s done so much for this music with that book. He must be protected at all costs!

Great interview as always. I really enjoyed it. The only thing I'm not 100% on board with is the Nü Metal stuff discussed. I discovered the heavier side of music on my own and thanks to bands like Limp Bizkit, linkin park and such. This was back in 1999-2000 (I'm 34 yo) and fast forward 24 years later, here I am currently enjoying the latest albums from bands like Bythos, Misotheist and Blaze of Perdition and I am eagerly waiting for the new Whoredom Rife and Akhlys albums to drop. The nu metal thing DID get a lot of people into the extreme side of heavy music. Specially in my country. I do have a lot of friends that started that way. Maybe it was different in England or other places...

Fair enough, mate! I still spin Static X's "Wisconsin Death Trip" on a very regular basis so I could hardly be snide about nu metal. 😁 Glad you enjoyed the episode!

Wish I had more hands so I could give this interview four thumbs up.
I will definitely be buying his book, Black Metal if I can find a way to get it here in the US. Shipping from the UK is almost as much as the book itself.

Thanks for the kind words! And yes, definitely get the book when you can. It's absolutely brilliant.

It's also available from Decibel in the US if that's easier.

Big fan of the podcast, and excellent interview as per usual. I definitely disagree with the assertion that nu-metal is incapable of leading people into more extreme forms of music though.
I would listen to many of the big names in nu-metal as a teen (Disturbed, Linkin Park, Korn, Slipknot) and they are definitely the reason why I'm into bands such as MGLA, Akhlys, Leviathan and Nails now. I think you could even make an argument, as blasphemous as it sounds, that nu-metal was one of the most important sub-genres of metal to ever appear, in terms of getting the genre out there into people's ears, and in terms of developing a taste and fascination for the more extreme subgenres. Mudvayne's L.D. 50 and Static-X's Wisconsin Death Trip are both celebrated releases, and despite not being the heaviest of all time, they both help develop a taste for more "out there" music.

Hahaha! I think you're on to something, but don't be saying that out loud in Oslo. Thanks for checking out the episode and glad you're enjoying the podcast. Some big episodes coming next week!

Lot of kids with 11,12 years in the late 90,s enter in heavy music because of nu metal.
Than in 3,4 years later they started to listen do death and black metal.
