Whether people found Longlegs scary or not, you have to admit we haven’t had this much discussion about a horror movie in quite awhile, which is such a treat.

@@StillWeRideits bcuz the motive of the killer was almost non existent. it was just “the devil be like that”. Everything else in the movie was pretty badass tho
A detail I noticed on my second viewing of the film was during the scene where the FBI are testing Lee for clairvoyance. During the word association test, one of the images displayed depicts an upside down triangle, and the word Lee says is 'father'. Given some of the details that were mentioned in this video, that's insanely creepy and really clever foreshadowing
She also says "legs" and "piano" (the piano being what she moves to open the box that contains the photo of Longlegs). There's probably more, but that's all I picked up on.
Yeah it's a family member (here the fathers) are the one who becomes "possessed" and murders the families, like the Amityville Horror or Sinister type situations.
She's an excellent actress. She's the red head in a bottle episode of the walking dead where she and three others capture Carol and Maggie in season 6 when they attack a saviors outpost before meeting Negan for real. She steals the episode.
Nick Cage is trying his hand in different genres and some of them succeed while others fail and LongLegs I would say will be a cult classic in the future.
@@JustTooDamnHonestI feel due to the way the marketing was as well as how the performances were While people may not talk about it as much as it doesn’t become relevant after a bit I feel for me personally as a wannabe filmmaker, it’s inspired me a lot for my fanfilms
@@skelebonez1349 Marketing is just as important as the story itself for you take the good bits and you put them together in the hopes that people will see it and spread the word. As an inspiring creative/filmmaker myself I know that it takes years if not decades for you to get from point A to point B and there is going to be a lot of roadblocks on that path. But if you keep it up and and are passion about it then you will eventually make it. For filmmaking got it start as moving pictures with no sound and needed word fonts to explain what the actors were saying.
Nicholas Cage is awesome in this movie. Maika Monroe didn’t see Nick until the interrogation scene. So she didn’t see what he looks like until then which gave her a genuine reaction as well.
To anyone that hasn’t seen it but wants to Being raised in the 90’s myself, I absolutely understand wanting another “Se7en”, “Silence of the Lambs” or even further back, “The Shining”-etc Do NOT do this. Don’t go into this film w/an expectation (shouldn’t do anyway) Instead let this story unfold naturally Do that; it’ll hit much harder
Been terrifying my GF with it since we saw the movie. It’s well within my register and is kind of how I like to act when being creepy before I even saw the film
The missing body parts that we only learn about because of the website fascinated me, because using minimalistic human parts in his dolls is even more horrifying, and that he might have possibly used his own flesh to begin his practice is not something I’d considered before. I also wonder if he crafted other flesh from others onto his face to become “closer” to his work, although that’s just a ransom theory and has no basis in anything given to use via the film. Amazing work as always!!! Edit: your notion of the doll being a metaphorical mirror is AMAZING. If mirrors are evil, then a little girl seeing a reflection of herself created specifically for evil would be even worse.
this video genuinely helped me enjoy the movie Longlegs so much more. i felt like i missed something when i first watched the film. so now that i know more about the secrets and inspirations, i got more out of the movie than just “satan is evil”
But we DO see long legs in 1974. When he first meets the main character in her childhood it is 1974, the day before her ninth birthday, and he looks exactly the same as he does in the 90s. He was not a young Glamrock guy. The mother, showed no aging in her face between the 70s and the 90s either. It’s like they are undead.
I personally saw 90s longlegs as being much older looking than his 70s counterpart. He looked more demonic in those flashbacks honestly, in a means I can’t exactly describe. I think it was his eyes. But he certainly looks very similar during both time periods, maybe something to do with his pact or more plastic surgery
I like that Longlegs veered off course into the occult, it made it something more than another crime procedural thriller. The voice over exposition dump at the end felt insulting, though, like the audience is incapable of piecing everything together themselves when it is obvious what has happened before the exposition even starts. Longlegs is good, but the third act needed just a little bit of tweaking to make the film truly great, imo.
I agree. Some people say it's a cop out but they didn't make it occult to cut corners they did it very purposefully (as seen in this video) and I think it's a unique take on satanic movies. It's not just another cheap possession movie
@@InterstellarCloudd Now that is just mean 🤦🏾♀️ this was waaaay better than that Annabell tripe! I'm so over people acting like this movie spat in their mouths! It was over-hyped, I will give it that but it was gorgeous as far as the cinematography goes and the score was perfection!
Yeah, I'm not a fan of exposition either, but even with that excessive dump at the end of the film I'm still seeing a lot of comments from people who very clearly still didn't understand it. Seems like a lose/lose situation for filmmakers these days.
I think that's what made this movie so intriguing to me. Despite not seeing any marketing, I could tell where things were going from the moment Harker saw those 4 trees. I was uncomfortable because I knew there were stories of things like this happening, that people like Longlegs have and will exist (even if their occult practices don't pan out, the fanaticism will), and that Harker's mom was becoming something even worse. The doll not breaking at the end was very foreboding. It felt like, even if it wasn't shown on screen, Harker couldn't actually save anyone.
@@aliceiscalling She only had to destroy the doll, and I had a feeling she might end up adopting Ruby. I chose to see a flicker of hope in that. I'm glad you see that her mother was actually worse; Longlegs was crazy but Ruth intended to carry on his work even after he was gone.
@@humblegamer7876 that's not very humble of you. If you played a game for 20 years, wouldn't you know something about it? You game, I research. Shouldn't say it's goofy just because you didn't see what I saw. THATS goofy
Just saw it. Man, the sound design, cinematography, and subliminal messaging were supreme in this film. I haven't felt that unsettled for reasons I can't explain since The Shining. I get the distinct feeling that Kubrick would have loved Longlegs. Nick cage did an absolutely fantastic job too! He needs to do more "evil" roles
The Shining, even 40 years later is much more disturbing/unsettling. But I just don't really understand what about this movie disturbed people so much. Certainly it's mainly because a broader audience watched it that would typically not watch horror? The parallels with Silence of the Lambs are very apparent, between the movies themselves and how they're viewed as horror movies while not quite fitting in the genre.
I couldn’t help but notice all the posters in lee’s bedroom. Maybe her taste in music was also influenced by HIM. When I saw a Duran Duran poster, I was immediately thinking of “hungry like the wolf”. Read the lyrics.
The whole Rio album can def. be very interesting when taken into context with the movie! I really think everyone needs to sit down and listen all the way through.
Mild spoilers: Another detail i noticed in the movie relating to Longlegs being a father figure to Lee, was that in the scene where she has to look at flashing images and say the first word that comes to mind, Lee associates the word “father” with a picture of an inverted triangle
@@shandaughter And there’s no explanation given for why she didn’t have one. And it’s so very strange how we’re told that no one ever visited their house until Longlegs did.
I actually do have an answer for his face! Oz and the makeup artist were going exactly for the botched surgery glamrock look + have confirmed that it is the result of Dale trying to “be beautiful for the devil”. A quote from Harlow Macfarlane, who was the sets makeup effects artist: “His jam is really that he’s trying to make himself beautiful for the Devil,” explains MacFarlane. “He’s in love with the Devil, and he’s trying to impress the Devil, so he’s gone through all these plastic surgery botch jobs to make himself as pretty as he can for the Devil. Every thing he does is for this evil force that he’s trying to impress”
Also, Harker could be a reference to Bram stokers Dracula. That could solidify that long legs is indeed in her, as Dracula put his blood into Wilhelmina. However, unlike that book, where she is freed from becoming a servant of the night, Lee is not so fortunate.
You also have supernatural forces watching and stalking women. Also The Francis Ford Coppola version of Dracula release date was 11/13/92, and the Horne murders occur on 11/14/92. The classic Universal Studios Dracula was released on 2/14/31, which is a fitting Valentines day movie, and goes with the 14th day theme. Also Dale seems to look like he's aging in a similar way as the Gary Oldman Dracula. There's also lots of wonderful reds in both movies.
@@SuperRussta The film adaptation of _The Silence of the Lambs_ was also released on Valentine’s Day, and Oz Perkins has said a lot about how he intended to “ape” _TSotL._
I haven't seen the movie, but am still commenting to fuel the algorithm just for the sheer amount of research alone! So, so, SO many fascinating bits and pieces in here that I'm much more interested in this ARG/promotion material than the movie itself! Fantastic work as always!
Sorry for the double upload everyone. Screen shots from The Birthday Murders website had some not safe for UA-cam wording that I didn't catch so I had to go back and censor those pages so the video wouldn't be flagged. I censored some other things too just to be safe. Sorry for the big ugly black bars in some places but an eyes gotta do what an eyes gotta do!
when I watched the movie, I had guessed that the name "Longlegs" was probably going to be a nod to the "daddy" longlegs, so I thought there could've been a link to "daddy" in Daddy Longlegs and the Fathers from each family who was murdered, especially when you consider what Officer Carter said. When he was talking with Lee, he mentioned that longlegs was "killing them without being there" and I think its fitting to say that since when I saw that the people who were possessed to kill the rest of the family, they ended up being the fathers of each one, seeing that the "Daddy" is killing them. Besides that tho, this video is absolutely awesome and I think it covers most bases on stuff that would've previously gone unnoticed to the untrained eye, AWESOME job!
I believed at the start of the film Longlegs was gonna be lees biological dad but by the end I believe Longlegs is a literal conduit for the devil and this devil has watched lee group up viewing her like his symbolic daughter.
This is a phenomenal video. Thank you. When I watched Longlegs, I couldn't help but focus on the gender aspect. I mean, it's the elephant in the room, man. I wondered, "Who does Longlegs see when he looks in the mirror?" Because who could look at such a face and not be horrified? He may be the Antichrist, but at one point he was a human. A baby. He is human underneath it all. He is clearly a psychopath. A sociopath. He only loves himself, but not as much as he loves Satan. Many movies depicting Satan worship depict it in a way where they love Satan--the same way Christians love God. I think Longlegs takes it beyond Satan worship. I think he's in love with Satan in a twisted way. He says "Hail Satan" so seductively. Blows a kiss. When I see Longlegs, I see a biological male who wants to present himself as something beyond the human concept and debates of gender. He sees himself as a goddess. A witch. Yes, he wears the white clothes as a mockery of purity. That's spot on and BRILLIANT. Possibly a nod to old church ladies. Nuns. That said, he makes an effort to feminize himself drastically. He dresses like a sweet old woman with long legs. I wouldn't be surprised if he fetishized being an old woman. A witch. It's obvious Longlegs is inspired by Buffalo Bill from The Silence of the Lambs. Buffalo Bill longs to possess womanhood, not embrace it. Buffalo Bill didn't want to find power in womanhood, he wanted to weaponize it. He saw womanhood as harnessing some special power. Taking it from a woman. Longlegs is very similar. I'm sure he found pleasure in altering his face to look more elderly-like. Deep down, I don't think he wants to be human. He wants to be something like HIM from PowerPuff Girls. A creature. A granddaddy longleg. A doll. Satan's doll. But all of this is subjective, and I'm open to an objection. This is, after all, a multi-dimensional character, and a very bizarre one at that. The scariest part is Longlegs dresses like an old lady in plain sight to lure little girls in. I mean, how sick is that? (And of course to blend in with the snow... Like a chameleon.)
@@so-calledpunk323 Thanks. I have to say, this is one of my favorite videos on UA-cam. The level of research is amazing. My take is just an interruption.
@@so-calledpunk323 I want to add that Longlegs is very intelligent. He knows young girls are more likely to approach a feminine elderly person. He manipulates the idea of gender like black magic. A spell. It's twisted as hell. It's like he's killing two doves with one stone: committing vile heresy and executing successful crimes through critical-thinking. Satan would be proud.
Killers in Islamic countries will dress like women because of the full body coverage. Almost any time you see "Woman wearing hijab brutally knifes person" it's actually a dude dressed like a woman. It's just another form of camouflage, designed for modern society and urban environments.
Also daddy long legs that we all see are actually females, the males are too small to be seen almost. I thought that's why this was going to be the twist in some way that a woman was involved or he wanted to be a woman or something and I guess I was kinda right.
I think the Theresa name reference more likely points to Theresa of Avila, the mystical nun who has many churches named after her. Mother Theresa is too recently canonized for the time frame of this film.
I feel like you're stretching a lot in this video. You have a theory and are fitting evidence to the theory instead of using the evidence to reach a conclusion that makes the most sense based on all the evidence. Ruth is flat-out called a friend of a friend of a friend (First friend = Satan, Second friend = Longlegs) so it makes the most sense that she runs the site, especially since there is ZERO evidence to a second accomplice. Hell, we know for a fact Longlegs used to deliver the dolls himself. Why else would he be trying to deliver one to Lee all those years ago on the day before her birthday? You make some good and interesting connections, but never forget that the most obvious solution is usually the correct one. The whole "second accomplice" piece is stuff and nonsense. So is the head canon argument about how Longlegs "learned to create the dolls." It doesn't really matter, beyond that Satan is moving shit forward. I think a big theme in this movie is that we really don't know things sometimes, and they're out of control and reality is sometimes weirder than we want it to be without explanation. And I feel that some of your theories trying to solve everything run into this intended wall.
My personal headcanon is that Longlegs wanted to be a rockstar, but failed making it big and when Glamrock started, he was already too old or backlisted because his lack of musical talent, so he literaly sold his sould to the devil to be succesful, but the devil wasn't "fair" or Longlegs wasn't specific so he never got to be a musical artist, but he became a doll-maker artisst. This movie has so many layers, I think that's the thing tha makes it stand out. Having to watch the movie more than oncce to just get missed details and the having to scavange for more information and clues make it more of an experience and goes beyond a movie.
I think he was aware of the Robert Johnson myth about selling your soul to the devil for musical talents. And I think when he's getting picked up by the Feds, it's a reference to one of his lyrics in the song "Me and The Devil Blues." : You may bury my body Down by the highway side Baby, I don't care where you bury my body when I'm dead and gone You may bury my body, ooh Down by the highway side So my old evil spirit Can get a Greyhound bus and ride..... And he was found waiting at the bus stop with his guitar case with him....
marc bolan may have coined the phrase glam rock, but many consider david bowies ziggy stardust era is considered glam rock. i am not challenging your take though, just trying to add some more information.
Tbh, I don’t think T. Rex was glamorous enough to be called “glam”. I just don’t understand why Marc Bolan would’ve chosen that label when so many bands from the ‘60s who participated in the “peacock revolution” were, in my opinion at least, much more glamorous than him. Like, just look at pictures of the Jimi Hendrix Experience alongside pictures of T. Rex. I just don’t get it.
@@autumnphillips151 Glam rock didn't exist in the 60s, Hendrix was part of the psychedelic genre. T. Rex started the glam rock movement in 1971 and then Bowie, Lou Reed and many more were inspired.
Awesome video man. I already loved this movie and the deep dives it took me in but this has just reinforced my feelings for it. Yeah its not the greatest movie ever made but damn the level of detail can not he ignored
For those who don’t know, Oz Perkins, the director, is the son of the OG Norman Bates himself and His beautiful wife last name, Berenson (sister of Marissa Berenson) who, unfortunately, and sadly died on one of the planes on 911. RIP to both
Vile Eye, this is a great video. I watched Longlegs in the theater with my wife last week. For me it was good. Suspenseful and creepy but not scary per se. This video acts as a decoder and allowed me to truly appreciate the depth of the story. It makes the themes of the movie much more creepy to the point that contemplating such actual evil is indeed scary. Thank you very much.

I really enjoyed this film and the unsettling nature of the antagonist, glad to see you're covering this one. As for recommendations, I'd say Whiterose and/or Fernando Vera from Mr. Robot.
I think this is a film that I will appreciate more with each viewing. I would love to see more films that follow Lee Harker. For someone so quiet, guarded, and emotionally removed, she is an incredibly compelling character.
Fantastic video! I gotta say... if this guy wasn't sitting in front of me, talking - then I would have been absolutely convinced that this was an AI / computer voice lol.
I bought the lesser key of Solomon and it actually really gave me the creepiest experience ever. Also I did something terrible which I doubt was actually connected but I still find it eerie. This girl who had been tormenting my daughter relentlessly and ruining her life left a box of crystals here and asked for them back. I took pieces and sprinklings from them and put them in a little sack and put them inside the book in a part I thought made sense for revenge which sounds absurd as an adult who doesn't truly believe in this kind of stuff. Within days the girl overdosed and some other shitty things. I doubt it was connected but it freaked me out.

When you brought up the Clinton Portrait I almost cackled as I specifically remember asking myself during the movie why the camera seems to keep our attention on it. Like despite being in the background, it felt wayy to prominent to just be a set piece. I was completely ready for you to speculate that the movie was trying to connect Clinton and Satan worship ngl lmfaooo
I think it's another "White House" that has been targeted. They fit the bill of the Family with a father controlled by outside forces. And Bill was a sinner by cheating, so devilish behaviour for a leader. And it also helps to complete the triangles or three people in shots. They also say it's ok to worship Satan in America!!
@remmond3769 if only you realized how absolutely idiotic you are. Look up the boys on the train tracks case. Clinton was governor of Arkansas during and has been tied to these events. As was to the drug trade during his administration. Stupid nonce. You don’t know anything about anything.

Another compelling, well penned video monsieur Eye. A small constructive criticism on my side for those longer videos, though I may be the only one thinking that way. I think that, at times, your writing may fall into "information dump" or become slightly bloated. For instance when enunciating every single book/article/song names or when using too many synonymous adjectives succinctly. Personally, I think it can sometimes move your videos away from thematic analysis into pure descriptive work. I feel I have noticed this more in recent videos but I may be wrong. Genuinely interested to know if I am the only one thinking that way :)
I honestly think that when horror leaves so much open lore like this, it shows how much the film itself focused on terror and tension over exposition. Leaving 90% of what you know of the backstory in the background only adds to the discomfort through mystery. And yet people have the nerve to criticise that as what horror shouldn't be, wanting all the info spoon-fed to them along with 6-7 jumpscares.
I loved longlegs. I’ve seen it twice already and might see it again soon but the ONE thing I hated about it was when the film treats the audience like they’re dumb during the third act. We get a lot of info fed to us that could’ve been a bigger part of the plot or something more subjective.

It was a Thriller, not Horror in my opinion. Kept you on edge of your seat, but not "scary" by any means. Great storytelling and buildup! I love that is doesn't rely on jump scares and just takes you on a journey. Great flick!
Thank you for this episode, I think that my friend, who went to the movie but was a little bit confused with all imagery and so one, will be very interested in this episode and information about dedicated site and all those materials!
I would like to thank you for your channel. Your dives in movies and characters is second to none on UA-cam as far as I am concerned. This was another terrific deep dive. The film was obviously made with attention to detail. Feels like this movie was just too inside. Sadly, I just could not connect with it. (really wanted to) Thank you again for all the work you do!
I think the ultimate message in this film is that evil often hides behind piety and outward normalcy. Osgood Perkins described Longlegs as a normal person who had something 'bad' happen to him. Nic Cage said he based him on his mother, who struggled with mental illness all her life. His bizarre physical appearance easily made him the 'boogeyman' of the story. But....look very hard at this tale. Longlegs couldn't have done any of his crimes without the assistance of Ruth. He was carrying out these acts for YEARS. Surely she could have found some way to fight back. As a devout Christian she could have found ways to combat and defeat him but instead she continued to carry out his killings after he was dead. Who was the REAL monster in this film?
Wouldn’t it make more sense for Teresa to be named after St. Teresa of Avila, who’s known for practicing her own form of Christian mysticism, instead of mother Teresa?
Super analysis! I personally really enjoyed this film and the ARG that came with it. I actually believe that Longlegs's face did change in the span of all those years (at least from when he conspired with Lee's mom until his death). I remember a scene, right after Longlegs has just tied Ruth, where he's looking directly at the camera. And his face, while still looking botoxed, featured a smoother surface with less creases compared to his '90s face. I dunno if I'm just misremembering or what and the film isn't out on digital yet so I can't really check.
He is actually beautiful, both younger and older! The wild hair and chalky white makeup may look jarring from a distance, but if focusing on his face and features close-up, he's genuinely pretty.
Saw in the theater with my daughter and we both really enjoyed the experience. I leaned over to her about half thru and said “this is a movie you gotta watch at least 2-3 times to get everything” and she agreed. We enjoyed the feeling and the idea that things were happening that we had only an vague awareness of creeping in and defining the atmosphere
nah forreal, i really thought the portrayal of this serial killer was well put together. but i did find it “lacking” in some areas given that we don’t know anything about longlegs before. with that being said i watched it throughout having a sense of “randomness” of the whole thing honestly. even with lee being possessed, i never found it as an intricate part of the plot, not that it isn’t important but that it’s just one of those things that happens when you’re catching a serial killer. consumed in the work. given that, and with the ending, it felt “hollow”. now with all of this that you brought to the table i would seriously consider this as a game changing film in the “horror” genre. and catch the killer type movies. the amount of details in this movie to let you know the connection between lee herself and the motives of longlegs make it a worthy contender as one of the greatest films ever made. this is crazy shit to put together not just cause of the themes but how you have to connect alot of dots. goes to show the complexities you can continue to simply find and enjoy in film and characters of any storytelling medium.
the randomness you felt I believe is attributed to the motive of the killer. It was just “Satan is evil” which is imo too simple in contrast to the level of detail in the rest of the film
I felt like it was a viscerally disturbing film. I do agree the third act was a little messy. I actually think this movie couldve benefited from about 15 or 20 minutes more of run time; which with horror, im typically a 90 minutes and get out kinda guy. But the pacing was off for the 3rd act because it was such a slow burn and then its like it was tied up within a matter of about 10 minutes when we were on the journey for the other hour 30

Also the only question I have is why was rubys trophies head cut off? Lees response to it made it seem like longlegs or some other evil had something to do with that?
Maybe glam rock existed before it was given the name glam rock? It's hard to argue a case for subcultures and subgenres in music, because who is to say it didn't exist until it was given a name? The term was associated with Marc Bolan, but he didn't invent the style.
56:58 i think it's "waiting in the wings" which means being ready to do something, referring to the wings of a theatre where actors would wait. the significance of "father's wings" seems pretty clear
What i find interesting about Longlegs is that he comes across as similar (if not more disturbing) to the villain in another Nic Cage film called Mandy played by Linus Roache.
the old woman reference around 35min is the mother, not long legs looking like an old woman (could be both). further speculation: the reason he needed an accomplice is because he wasn't convincing, likely had lower success rates and more brazen situations etc. think about how he personally abducted and threatened dt. harkers mother in their own home. the risk he was willing to take to make things easier was high

The missing body parts that we only learn about because of the website fascinated me, because using minimalistic human parts in his dolls is even more horrifying, and that he might have possibly used his own flesh to begin his practice is not something I’d considered before.
If you pay close attention in the 1974 scenes he actually has less wrinkles and looks a bit younger

@@RoshDroz we do gotta remember longlegs doesnt have a huge budget and they already had to do the longlegs makeup and all the special effects
It went from a movie that could stand on its feet to another Annabelle clone 💀
I agree. Some people say it's a cop out but they didn't make it occult to cut corners they did it very purposefully (as seen in this video) and I think it's a unique take on satanic movies. It's not just another cheap possession movie

Ive studied the occult for the last 20 years, and the writers understanding and symbolism is actually pretty scary in itself

I missed that one, but I found it intriguing that Lee's house was the only one we noticed that didn't have a father in the house.

Okay I think you and I commented this at the same time. I am stunned that no one else is talking about this!!!
Longlegs origins would be a banger
Just have to appreciate the research that goes into this.
when I watched the movie, I had guessed that the name "Longlegs" was probably going to be a nod to the "daddy" longlegs, so I thought there could've been a link to "daddy" in Daddy Longlegs and the Fathers from each family who was murdered, especially when you consider what Officer Carter said.
Also, longlegs could imply having a distant reach. Like the demon is far away but can still touch you.
Love this take.
You did some phenomenal work and I really appreciate it. Thank you.
Fantastic, this is a top tier analysis of pop culture. Keep doing what you're doing
Having to watch the movie more than oncce to just get missed details and the having to scavange for more information and clues make it more of an experience and goes beyond a movie.
cool take!
I think he was aware of the Robert Johnson myth about selling your soul to the devil for musical talents. And I think when he's getting picked up by the Feds, it's a reference to one of his lyrics in the song "Me and The Devil Blues." :
You may bury my body
Down by the highway side

You may bury my body, ooh
Down by the highway side

It was a Thriller, not Horror in my opinion. Kept you on edge of your seat, but not "scary" by any means. Great storytelling and buildup! I love that is doesn't rely on jump scares and just takes you on a journey. Great flick!
Same! You know a movie sucks when the scariest part of the movie is a jump scare. This movie was so good
If Dorohedoro ever becomes popular, you Should cover Shin,En and Noi
Doesn't matter if it's popular, Vile will cover it if people request it enough.
I love dorohedoro
0:47 Why does his voice sound like AI yet apparently it isn't..
This analysis was so amazing! Thanks for all your work and all the awesome content!!
You never disappoint!
Yup, you are correct.
It was a 6/10 imo. Very original and in an industry swarmed with reboots, sequels, and remakes I appreciate it a lot but the movie was just okay.
Yes, eerily he was almost beautiful there😳
You're right, he does look appropriately younger in the 1974 flashbacks.
We enjoyed the feeling and the idea that things were happening that we had only an vague awareness of creeping in and defining the atmosphere
nah forreal, i really thought the portrayal of this serial killer was well put together. but i did find it “lacking” in some areas given that we don’t know anything about longlegs before. with that being said i watched it throughout having a sense of “randomness” of the whole thing honestly. even with lee being possessed, i never found it as an intricate part of the plot, not that it isn’t important but that it’s just one of those things that happens when you’re catching a serial killer. consumed in the work. given that, and with the ending, it felt “hollow”. now with all of this that you brought to the table i would seriously consider this as a game changing film in the “horror” genre. and catch the killer type movies. the amount of details in this movie to let you know the connection between lee herself and the motives of longlegs make it a worthy contender as one of the greatest films ever made. this is crazy shit to put together not just cause of the themes but how you have to connect alot of dots. goes to show the complexities you can continue to simply find and enjoy in film and characters of any storytelling medium.
and fyi, i really loved this movie. i loved it more after watching this.
the randomness you felt I believe is attributed to the motive of the killer.
Hate how all the comments are normies giving recommendations instead of talking about the analysis
You’re the second person to say it and I gotta say bud.. pretty sure you read like 2 comments because I’m seeing plenty about the analysis. Quit crying.
You talk about normies while commenting the exact same thing as everyone else 🙄 great observation there grandma
@@gypsydanger1013 I posted this before I saw anyone else say it. As you can tell by the time that I posted the comment. Great observation, go take your meds
@@gypsydanger1013you’re obsessed
@@RecordedMercuryits a pretty snarky comment all the same. Adds nothing to the discussion
Thank you so much vile eye for making this, rewatching the movie rn and agent Carter (I think it’s his name) is asking Lee if longlegs has accomplices and her saying Manson had family, basically begging for the viewers to look deeper into the cast and movie to see what she meant I mean…….. wow thanks so much vile for the extra insight into this blessedly vile movie :)😊
Also the only question I have is why was rubys trophies head cut off? Lees response to it made it seem like longlegs or some other evil had something to do with that?
4:04 not mainstream ≠ doesn't exist. Most musical genres have an underground scene long before they become well known.
Worth noting that trends in style and music exist for years before theyre broadcasted to a wider audience
God damn it, I need to watch this again?!?!?!?!
Oh who am I kidding I was going to do that anyway.
Analyzing Evil: The commenters spamming the same recommendation
I wouldn't say I 'enjoyed' the movie but it definitely was effective in creeping me out and videos like this have increased my appreciation of it.
What i find interesting about Longlegs is that he comes across as similar (if not more disturbing) to the villain in another Nic Cage film called Mandy played by Linus Roache.
I thought when he screamed it sounded like his character from kickass being burned
Thank you for this. You took a good movie and made it Great. I love your essays on humanity.
the old woman reference around 35min is the mother, not long legs looking like an old woman (could be both).
further speculation:
the reason he needed an accomplice is because he wasn't convincing, likely had lower success rates and more brazen situations etc. think about how he personally abducted and threatened dt. harkers mother in their own home. the risk he was willing to take to make things easier was high
honestly I really liked it, I felt like it may have been overhyped but I understand why people think it’s really great.
This is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. I’ve never seen so much work and detail go into a project like this. The website, promotional material, and all of the insane details are just incredible. I’ve already seen this movie twice and will prob watch it again.
You are the first who made it make sense, so I subbed.
Lee’s mom reminds me of the nurse from the exorcist three.
She's in the walking dead, she's a savior. She really stood out in the episode she was in for me.
Amazing movie.very particular mood all along.
Commenting to help the algorithm. Great video.
Great video as always.
If you’re looking for a villain who has absolutely zero redeeming qualities on the likes of Judge Holden, please check out Kyung-Chul from I Saw the Devil.
Movie is a masterpiece like old boy or the man from nowhere
Watching this the day after the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony has been quite useful.
