Hey Paul thanks for the look at the dovii you know it's one of my favorite fish, I actually have one ,I think you've seen it in videos it's about 20 inches and absolutely beautiful it's definitely on my top of the list and I've always wanted one and I finally got one about two years ago
Beautiful dovii. I agree 7 foot and approximately 240 gallon for minimum. Dovii is by far the most aggressive american cichlid I've owned and I've had almost all of them lol. For size the most aggressive cichlid I've ever experienced was Hemichromis fasciatus. There is a youtuber that has a hybrid one and it is brutally crazy.

GuapoteMel used to have a successful community of Umbee and A.Rivulatus in a massive tank but he wasn't confident enough when he added dovii in another community tank of umbees, red devil etc. But Andy Woods once said RTM are the most aggressive towards other fish, I think he's talking about fish aggression, as in dog to dog aggression. So, in general it seems parachromis (RTM or dovii) might be the most aggressive American cichlids
Wow , that dovii is an absolute monster , stunning stunning fish , I’d love to keep a pair but I just can’t get a tank big enough for them, my house ain’t big enough , that’s why I keep a jag and rtm,s because they are smaller , as for the most aggressive fish , I’ve found that each fish has different personalities , I’ve had a jag in the past that was evil but the one I have now is a real softy , it’s pretty timid and gets along great with the Red Devil it shares its tank with, there’s never any aggression between them. The most aggressive fish i have kept before what probably be the red terror or festae. Beautiful fish but very aggressive towards its tank mates. I’ve had three of them 2 females and a male and they were all aggressive , I’ve never had much luck with them though, they all died after about 3 years, just got sick and stopped eating , I really don’t understand why , I always do weekly water changes and try to give them a variety of different foods , it’s a strange one mate. I might have another go at keeping a pair in the future but for now I’m just enjoying my rtm pair, really beautiful fish. 👍👌
I believe that Red Terrors can be a tricky to keep but never had them myself and like you now my 2 Jags that I have had have been quite chilled in general, I loge how much you love the Parachromis mate and cheers for watching pal
Umbees are by far more aggressive. The difference being that Umbee are open water predators and as such are just pure dominators of their space. Dovii being ambush predators are sneaky & stealth hunters, lurking like a leopard waiting to strike. Umbees are Silverback gorillas going at anything in their space whose mere existence disrespects them.
Kept both not sure on this I have a larger umbee pair at moment that don’t go anywhere as mental as a dovii when spawning, I much prefer a umbee as a fish.

That Honduran red point I got last week turned out to be a normal convict and I think that's the most aggressive cichlid haha. The 1st day he was peaceful, by the 2nd day he was ragging around the Monte even though he was a quarter of the size and also trying it on with the severum. Long story short, I took a hit on my money and he took a hit on the head and the tank is peaceful once more!
The American cichlids are amazing, I'm growing on 6 dovii and 6 Cubans at the moment looking for a female umbee to go with my 20" male . Shame Andy has called it quits was talking to him on the phone.

In my opinion the most aggressive fish ITW is the haitiensis Aka the Black Nasty. My dream favourite fish I would do anything to keep one. My friend has one that will annihilate anything. They are the most aggressive fish in my opinion
Most aggressive fish i've owned is by far the parachromis ( i had a RTM pair ) and actually salviniis are small psychos aswell mine was small like 10-12 cm ( 4-5 inches ) and pushed my oscars that where 25 cm without any problem , i truly belive that the smarter a fish is the more aggressive they tend to be , salviniis i remember very clearly being BY FAR the smartest fish i've ever had just simply from trying to catch them i've once spent LITERALLY 1.5 hours catching 2 of em meanwhile the other 10 fish in the tank took maybe 10-15 min ( i was to lazy / dumb to drain all the water to be fair but ye.. )
I've recently picked up a dovii myself tough only a male im really really tempted to get a female but i wont , i had the rtm pair and when they chase eachother the entire house is shaking i cant have taht with doviis they are way to big im planning to keep a male ONLY in my 190g ( 200 x60 x 60 cm )
Dovii apex predators, they are aggressive but size is definitely on they’re side! Stunning monsters for sure. I had a buttikofferi years ago… I didn’t find it any more aggressive than my red devil male from a pair that I had, I can see a dovii in your future paul 🙂👍🏻
Dovii are very smart and aggressive fish..my dovii started tank bashing around 7 or 8 inches..he's about 15 inches now and bangs the lids hard to let me know he's hungry ...the guy is crazy but he's one of my favorite predatory fish..I have Umbee and Jaguar sole specimen tanks as well..but the dovii has alot of personality..👍
Must have been a surrender you think? Super super impressive fish but don't see them ordering it in hey. Yeah aggressive as. I'll never keep one. I'd be forever worried it'll smash the glass open one day and give me what for haha..
yeah, I'd say they are probably the most aggressive new world cichlids. I say "probably", because I haven't kept an umbee, and they could potentially top it. But these guys pale in comparison to Hemichromis species such as elongatus or fasciatus aka the 5 Star Generals. But you DID exclude African cichlids...
Personally, I would not have those fish in the hobby if I had my way. I would have no objection to having a fish that size in a public aquarium. I would recommend a 6 or 7-foot tank to keep 20 tiger barbs but that's only my opinion.
@@bigfishlad4847 I'm a great believer in the bigger the better tank. Even for fish only 6 inches long I believe would last longer in a 7-foot rather than a 5-foot.
@@liamwalters5029 Well I used to keep just a four-foot community tank in the U.K with mollys , platys , red eyed tetras. But I'm out in Thailand now and hope to get a 7 footer not only to keep barbs. I mean tetras and other fish so maybe about 80 fish altogether of compatible species. Thank you.

The dovie- Guapote is a beautiful top of the food chain in lakes and river in Central America . Beautiful colors
