      Yes, they deserved the win. It started in the early 2000s when they were still amateur and sent their best players to France to play professionally. We saw them reach the 2007 RWC semi-finals. Then they joined the Rugby Championship and they've just got better every year. I like them a lot and happy to see them doing so well ... just not against us of course!

    I'm an Argie in Australia and always follow Los Pumas. I have friends here in Oz who are very much into rugby and we all knew that there is no way that anyone could be SAF at this moment, no way! So what happened here? Yes. Argentina played out of their skin, like they have been in this Championship but...Did SAF take them lightly? or Did they want to set up a trophy winning match next week otherwise that would be a dead rubber? One thing though, Los Pumas stuffed things up for themselves when they lost to Australia at Mar del Plata. They could have gone into next week's game with a big hand on the trophy! BUT I am very proud of Argentina playing this well. Vamos Los Pumas.

    • @frontrowrugby

      Nice to hear from you, Tony. I don't think SA took Argentina lightly. We know how good the Pumas are. I just think they were the better team on the day and we have to try again this coming week.
      You are quite right, imagine if Los Pumas had beaten Australia, as they should have, in that first match. We'd be set up for a real cracker this weekend, for sure.
      I've always had a soft spot for Argentina so I'm happy to see your team doing well ... just not against South Africa, of course!

    Excellent review! This channel WILL grow. Not only the reasoning and anlyisis is spot on, fair, objective, but the phrasing is outstanding, which is essential for clarity of ideas. A real pleasure to listen to perfect english spoken. Sorry, I could not stop myself for congratulating the commentator. What is his name? I subscibed. Now, as per the Final, SA will be unforgiving and deserved Champions. ARG could be 3rd if they lose by a wide margin, and if ABs thrash AU.... By the way, I am Argentinian. Good luck to all readers!

    Hi Peter, hope all is well on your side! Loving the additional content on the channel. It was a frustrating night for this Bok supporter. We have now conceded four tries in two matches during this tournament. Sure, the KLA yellow did not help. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I would have kicked to the corner at 14-0 rather than taking the 3 (which we did to make it 17-0). We had all the momentum and if we made it 21-0 it would have been very difficult for Argentina to make a comeback. Manie must be absolutely shattered after that match, I feel for him.

      @frontrowrugby  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Willie. Yes, I am well thank you and I hope you are too! Thanks for the kinds words on my new content.
      I agree it was frustrating and the KLA card did not help at all. The Pumas took full advantage of that and then they had the momentum and showed just how dangerous they can be.
      21-0 would have been lovely but as you say, hindsight is a wonderful thing.
      I also feel for Manie. Not his fault we lost but he did have the opportunity to win it for us and now the vultures will be circling.

      @@frontrowrugby absolutely, it is easy to have an emotional reaction to the missed kick (and the missed touch finder) but the reality is we have other fundamental things to fix. I agree with you. We need to try to keep it in context and certainly not attack the man. Play the ball, as it were. I tried to convey that in this video. I hope I got it right.
      As for Malcolm, I'm a big fan but you are right, since coming back he has not quite been the player we know he can be. Hopefully that's just him needing to get back to full fitness and optimal performance levels again.

    Rassie seems to have faith in Libbok's overall potential. The team is likely trying to balance development with experience, as Libbok offers dynamism and flair in open play, something the Springbok management values. However, his inability to perform under pressure, as evidenced by missed kicks in critical games, is putting his selection as the primary kicker under scrutiny. Rassie must rethink this decision. We must hope that we will win the game in Nelspruit.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  2 місяці тому

      I agree, Pieter. I believe we will win in Nelspruit but I'll keep saying that if Manie is in the team, someone else has to be the goalkicker. The harsh reality is that no matter how good the other aspects of Manie's play might be, he is going to be judged on his goalkicking. Relieve him of that burden or there isn't a place for him in the team. That's how I see it.

    • @pietervanderwesthuizen5801
      @pietervanderwesthuizen5801 2 місяці тому +1

      Rassie should weigh Libbok’s attacking contributions against his kicking reliability. A balance could involve maintaining Libbok for his open-field play but relieving him of primary kicking responsibilities in high-stakes moments to protect both the team and the player’s confidence. We should not do what happened this past weekend.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  2 місяці тому

      Yeah the way I see it is if Manie is 10, then Sacha or Pollard has to be 12, or Sacha goes to 15 and he kicks, or Pollard kicks.
      But that also might mean you have to sacrifice De Allende? Does Manie add more value to the team currently than DDA? I don't believe he does.
      I wonder if Manie moving to fullback might not be the worst idea? That way the 10 jersey is between Pollard and Sacha and they kick, freeing Manie up to be the player we all know he can be ... plus he'll have a lot more space to work with!

    Youre spot on. We need a better kicker on the field. Even Willemse has proven to be a poor goal kicker. So if manie is playing we need sacha at fullback.

      I agree. The Manie Libbok Fan Club wants other players to play out of position to accommodate their man and that's simply not fair.

  • @CoenraadGroenewald
    @CoenraadGroenewald 2 місяці тому +1

    Congratulations to Argentina on a great win. I understand your point of not having Manie as the (main) kicker, but I also wonder whether it makes sense to have him come in from the bench. We know that it is risky to expect him to clinch the game with a kick in the final minutes. So if he does play, why not start with him. If it goes as planned the Boks make the points and will be well ahead with 20 minutes to go. If it is tight and it might go to kicks, you bring in Pollard in the second half, either at flyhalf or somewhere else. The same logic that says you don't use necessarily use your best prop from the start when there might not be a scrum for more than 20 minutes could be used to say you don't bring in your best attacker when players are already tired and less effective at attacking

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment, Coenraad. Yes, there is a lot of merit in what you are saying. I am not sure there is a right or wrong answer to be honest. Different coaches will opt for different options I think.
      I would say for me what I want most is a goalkicker that can consistently give me at least an 80% success rate. That's not going to be Manie so if he plays (starts or bomb squad) then I need one of the other backline players to be able to do that job for me.
      Personally if I was Rassie and Dobbo I'd be asking Manie to seriously consider switching to fullback. I think if he wants a long Bok career that might be his best bet right now.

    Easy, pick your 15th best lock as captain means you're going to have a problem. Just to illustrate how bad Moerat is I'll mention four locks from the bulls alone who are better then Moerat: Cobus Wiese, Ruan Vermaak, Jannes Kirsten and Ruan Nortje granted Nortje is a 5. The Stormers have at least one better lock. who can play 4 or 5 in Ruben Van Heerden. Reinhard Nothnagel from the Lions is better, the Sharks have Jason Jenkins, even Corne Rahl who are far far superior. And there are more currie cup locks I could add.

      To underestimate them is asking for trouble.

  • @johannrugby3811
    @johannrugby3811 2 місяці тому

    Our problem and the reason why I don't trust our team is because we are not dominant in most of the things that we do in our game. Our attack is improving but there's still a lot of work to be done, our defence isn't as dominant as it used to be, and our line-outs aren't great as well. The only part of our game where we are really dominant in and the best in the world, is our scrums. Teams like Ireland are dominant in literally everything that they do: They have the best attack in the world that can break down any defence, they also have brilliant defence, decent set-piece, a superb kicking game and they are also brilliant at keeping possession of the ball in phase play. As good as we are in our scrums, Ireland are just as good in all these other aspects of their game especially their attack and defence which is very important in the modern game. That is why they were recently on a 17 match winning-streak. If you look at how they break down defence with their attack and how dominant they tackle, then one can immediately see and understand why they are winning so much and why they became so dominant. Yes, we are also great, but if we want to be dominant and almost untouchable like we were during the Nick Mallett era between 1997 and 1998 when we were on a 17 match winning streak, then we must almost be flawless in our game like Ireland are now and like the all blacks were between 2011 and 2015. We need our defence and attack etc to be as dominant as our scrums.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  2 місяці тому

      You make a lot of good points here, Johan. But I also think we must factor in two very important aspects: Injuries and depth-building.
      So in terms of injuries there are a lot of guys who are currently out: Kitshoff, Lood, RG, Sous and Faf readily come to mind.
      Throw in the fact Rassie is trying to build depth, and he has to because so many of the guys are in their 30s now, and you have a situation where we are playing with a lot of combinations that are not used to playing with one another.
      Add in an emphasis on trying to play a more attacking game and in many ways it's actually a recipe for chaos.
      I think if you look at it that way then maybe we've actually done really well this year to have won as many matches as we have without every truly having our strongest team on the field.
      Having said that there are several areas, as you have mentioned, where we really do require drastic improvement. Lineouts, breakdowns and defence for example.
      But at the same time, imagine being unhappy about a team that has won seven out of nine Tests this year so far, beating the All Blacks twice along the way and on the cusp of winning the Rugby Championship!
      I think as much as we might be a little frustrated, our opponents should be very fearful for the day when we get it right. Someone is going to get a hiding!

    • @johannrugby3811
      @johannrugby3811 2 місяці тому +1

      @@frontrowrugby I understand your points on injuries and depth building, but if you play with the right systems and techniques in terms of attack and defence etc like Ireland, then those things would not matter as much compare to how much it would've mattered if your systems and structures of how you play the game, is not that great. Even when our first choice players played in the two Games against the all blacks, these flaws in our defence, line outs, breakdowns and also our attack to some degree, remained the same compared to how they were when our team was rotated against Argentina which indicates to me that there is a problem with our systems and structures and not just the injuries and building squad depth. I must admit though that we have improved in our breakdown against Argentina.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  2 місяці тому

      Yes, systems are important but the players need to be able to execute that. I think we've seen some players show themselves not ready to make the step up or perhaps not good enough either. Again I would say that being used to playing in combos would help here to as I think trust is a massive thing and if you don't know your new teammate or are not used to playing with him, that can cause chaos.
      But for sure, lots of flaws overall. Hopefully Rassie will sort it out sooner rather than later.
      I agree our breakdown was a lot better against Argentina - perhaps ironic given that Siya and PSDT were not present in that match.

    • @johannrugby3811
      @johannrugby3811 2 місяці тому +1

      @@frontrowrugby I think it is good to create depth, but sometimes selecting the exact same team for a couple of games, is good for the building of combos and getting used to the system as you say. We can't only focus on world cups and not having years in between where we dominate world rugby like we did in 1998 and 2009.
      We must start focusing on getting long winning-streaks like the All Blacks had between 2015 and 2016 (they and England have the record of the longest winning streak in rugby history, 18 wins in a row) So we must try to beat that winning streak as well as going an entire calendar year, unbeaten for example the all blacks in 2013 played 14 games that year and won all 14, England also won all their calendar matches in 2016 and France did the same in 2022. World Cups are the most important, but they are not the only thing that matters.
      In order for us to really be seen as the greatest rugby nation of all-time, we must start focussing on winning at least 85% to 90% of our matches every year like the all blacks did through-out most of their history, especially the all blacks from 2010-2016. England also had similar high percentage winning records under Clive Woordward: in 2000, their winning record was 80%, in 2001, their winning record was 90%, in 2002, their winning record was 88% and in 2003, their winning record was 94% plus they won the World Cup that year.
      See, you don't only have to focus on preparing for world cups and not doing well in between as England from 2000-2003 proved as well as the all blacks from 2011- 2015. I watched your video of the interview that you had with Nick Mallett and in that interview you talked about the springboks success in 1998 by winning 11 out of 12 games that year under Mallett, 92%, well, I want this springbok team to replicate a similar winning percentage for almost every year like the all blacks used to do all the time as well as Ireland under Andy Farrell. If they can do it, we can do It.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  2 місяці тому

      Yes, you need depth in case of injuries and suspensions and then obviously there are going to be retirements down the line so better guys step in with 20-30 or so caps.
      I must agree with you that it would be lovely to have more 1998 and 2009 years. 98 was particularly special to me because I was still in high school - I think those memories just stay with you forever and it always feels like everything was a bit more magical at that stage.
      I will say though that those high winning percentages are not always the case. Overall if you look at England for example they're only somewhere around 50% I think it's 52 or 53 - that's their all-time record. I know Australia are under 50%
      The All Blacks historically are around 75% and South Africa sit somewhere around 62% if I remember correctly but no one else is anywhere close to 60. And I could be wrong but I think England and France are the only other two teams above 50% which shows you just how much better New Zealand and South Africa have been in the history of this sport.
