    The VO during the steer tube section was pure gold. Superceded only by the use of the Wii music.

    A quality steel frame is lighter than an aluminum one. A cubic inch of aluminum is lighter than a cubic inch of chromoly steel. However, in order to be as strong as a chromoly steel tube, an aluminum tube has to be both bigger and thicker walled. Chromoly steel is MUCH stronger than 6061 aluminum. Chromoly is what roll cages are made from. That, and good quality steel bikes.

I’ve always loved the look of steel but Merino seems legit and the payment jawn makes me wanna lock a geo down asap. My 130mm frame, 140mm fork aluminum VPP bike with EXO casing tires (DHR/Rekon) and stock aluminum rims, set up tubeless, is about 34.5 lbs from what I remember. • @Spindatt
      @Spindatt  Рік тому +2

      Nice! Yeah, I think there is some assumptions that a steel frame is like 10lbs heavier than other frames, but its probably more like 1 or 2lbs. Easy to make up with some other parts without spending a fortune. I could save another half a pound with just a cassette I bet.

    Chromoly steel is superior to aluminum in every way, especially on a mountain bike and especially a full suspension mountain bike which is not stiff. Aluminum does tend to be stiffer, probably because of the larger and thicker wall, plus it's a characteristic of aluminum to be springy. But outside of stiffness which no mountain bike is stiff because of the suspension, steel is much better.
    The problem with Chromoly steel is it is literally 10 times the price and that's per ton, not per bike tube. As long as you keep it from rusting, a chromoly steel frame could last your lifetime plus your kid's lifetime. It is extremely tough. Aluminum is the opposite of tough. It will eventually crack in half.

      I did a little bit of that, but probably not the way I should have lol
      I also took it completely apart, cleaned and re-greased it but couldn’t be bothered to recreate that as wel haha

    Design wise it goes with the seat. I personally don't like black parts period. I have searched for vintage parts just so I don't buy black parts.

    did u just downgrade from a marzocchi z2 one amazing fork to a entrylevel rockshox revelation just for the looks?

    • @Spindatt
      @Spindatt  Рік тому +1

      Well, like I said: the Z2 was not mine, it was borrowed AND has required a steerer tube replace into the crown once, and is ready for it again based on the creaking and movements. Seeing the problems Dan had with this Z2, I’ll never buy one.

    NX? You ain’t kiddin’. I have one on one of my many bikes. It sucks worse than anything that sucks has ever sucked before. It’s worse than useless. Like my first wife. But maybe not quite as evil.

      No matter how much tuning I’ve done on it, it was still garbage every ride. Insane that one level up works NIGHT AND DAY better.

    The red was alright, the black is nice. But if you get out your pink spray paint and do the fork it will look aweful. There is nothing cooler than riding a bike that says, no screams, I DON'T CARE!

    I think steel just isn't that heavy. Maybe we're used to shitty steel frames.

    • @Spindatt
      @Spindatt  Рік тому

      Yeah I agree. I don't think the weight of the frame is really that much more than most aluminum frames really.

    The difference between an NX and GX derailleur is comical. I have no idea why, but NX is truly awful.
