Nailed it, body shops don’t want to work on them. They don’t even want them on their property so now when a EV has minor damage it gets totaled out as opposed to repaired if it were a gas car. We are all going to eat this shit sandwich through rate increases!!

Exactly, we are being fleeced left right and centre.
I buy smashed cars from auction and watched just a few days ago a 2024 Tesla with minor damage sell for just $4400! That's a massive insurance loss and we are paying for a false ideology even though we aren't onboard with it.

Already happening. Wife JUST a few minutes ago renewed her insurance and is now £360 higher than last year and thats the lowest we could find...Are own circumstances have not changed etc. We live way out in the sticks. which has always resulted in lower insurance too... The only thing is can be is the growing issues with EV's that cost way too much to repair etc.

Remember, that in the UK, almost 5 out of 6 EV sales are to fleets and businesses and not private buyers. Dealers are being forced to pre-register EV's and have them sit unwanted on forecourts just to try and avoid the fines. This is how they can artificially show an increase in EV 'sales' when they need to. Traditionally, the big car sale uplifts happen in March and September - Jun/Jul are often very quiet, so to suddenly see an 18% increase in EV sales (that's 'all' registrations), sounds suspect.

FYI, I don't dislike EV's -if it suits your lifestyle and you can afford to buy and insure one, have off-street parking and have payed for a home charger and have factored in the depreciation, don't mind lengthy queues and the high cost of public charging, then knock yourself out. Personally, I don't want one and I object to having my choice taken away. If EV's were actually going to make a difference I may buy into it, but they're not. An issue with EV fires, is that damage to the battery pack can cause this. The protection under the car is designed for 'normal' use, so cannot protect against heavy hits. Drivers can be careless. Any EV fire could be a defective battery, or prior damage. Once the fire is out, evidence of damage may be difficult to determine, as will evidence of any defective cells, so manufacturers will be cautious, and possibly ready to blame the owner. It is a no-win situation. At least with a petrol or diesel, any leaks, due to age, or damage, can be seen and smelt.

A couple of problems I see on this videos. 1) that Mercedes ev could have had a prang int eh battery undertry days, weeks...months ago and this was the point the circuits on one of the many batteries failed. There's no way to know when this might happen, and as you say, an ICE engine would be easy to spot a problem. 2). My fear in the uk is they are pushing forward for 100% car sales in 5 years. The grid can't manage that even now. So I bet the idea is that you'll be told when you're allowed to charge, and the cost of an EV will make it's only for the rich. How will the rest of us get around...public transport is an expensive joke already.

I was in a new Tesla taxi a few weeks back, Model Y.
The driver got it because one of his taxi buddies has had one for a while and swears by it.
Smooth, quiet and really cheap to run he said.
So my driver bought one as did one of his other colleagues.
Said they all love them and wished they had got them earlier.
They make more profit because of the reduced fuel and maintenance costs.
Depreciation not an issue because they will run them until they die!
Now their fares are 95% local so really long journeys are rare but he said that the dispatchers work around that, no problem.

Well given that they are very unlikely to be all EV for many years to come, I guess it's not really an issue!
Regardless, it's s just the same as the dispatcher asking a driver nearing the end of a shift if he wants a longer trip.
Sometimes they'll take it sometime they will pass it on to the next driver who will "accommodate the request".
(He also said that some of their regular customers are, on the large side and they have to be "accommodated" as not all cars can take them!)
Also they don't necessarily reject the longer distance ones he said. It's all about providing the best service for the customer.

In other news, a lithium battery discarded at Sackers scrap metal recycling yard at Great Blakenham, near Ipswich, caused a disruption of mainline train service. Eighty-five firefighters were called out to fight the blaze.
According to Steve Wiles, Suffolk County Council cabinet member for public protection, ""This was a major incident that caused massive disruption to a great many people and saw firefighters put themselves potentially in harm’s way as they bravely dealt with it."
The railway line that passes directly by Sackers was closed by Network Rail in both directions. Train operator Greater Anglia has advised customers that service would be disrupted between Ipswich and Norwich until further notice.
