So I ended up coming across the titanium 3.5 automac & it's smaller than I thought and at first I was kinda...? But now I'm starting to fall in love with it, the quality is through the roof. I have Microtechs & Protechs but this is different in a good way!
Great score, I also have the Auto, and I completely agree. I think it is better than my classic Pro-Tech TR-3 in Magnacut. Love that knife because it was anniversary gift. 👍
Great review! I had the same set up but ended up trading it because I like autos but tend not to carry them. I love mcnees grinds. I was under the impression that protech is making his autos but I could be wrong. Cheers!
Pro-Tech has nothing to do with McNees, though the owners know each other and may be friends. McNees makes all his own knives in his Alabama shop. I have both McNees and Pro-Techs. Great knives and autos. This McNees is my favorite Auto to carry because it is truly one-handed without being a dual action OTF. If you are not going to carry it, then trading/selling makes sense to get what you will enjoy and hopefully carry! 🫡🤜💥🤛
I've had 5 or 6 out the side protechs and a manual and auto mcnees. The automac has more in common with the hardware/details found on protechs than the manual mcnees. I've down a little digging and can't find anywhere that mcnees is making the autos. He did say "we were waiting on parts to come in" about the autos when they debuted. Can you point me to where you learned that he makes them? Thanks
@the_swinging_axe at tge bottom of the link, he says, “All the outsourced work on these is done in the USA and a good portion of the work is done right here in my shop, including fitting locks, detents and sharpening. As we continue to grow, more processes will be done in house.” That does indicate what is in house right now. Not at all and they feel absolutely different than Pro-Tech. In fact, the AMC news Auto is far more powerful as an out the side automatic. I love my Pro-Techs and Pro-Tech is awesome, but the McNees Auto is my favorite auto.

It’s expensive, so it’s not for everyone if you either have not handled one or its look and function does not appeal to you. I was hooked on the framelock when I handled 1 at a gun show I attended. When I heard they made a 3.5”,, I have been in the hunt ever since for the framelock. The Auto was a new variant that I was very happy to get a hold of. If you like the look, are okay with the price, and like automatics, then I cannot recommend this one enough.

Have you tried the spartan blades zelos? It's an auto and I absolutely love it.
I have not. I have not had any subscribers loan me one of those. Do you own it and a McNees? If yes, how do they stack up?

You may be right and it does keep to his shop model of all made in the USA. And he wants to more stuff in house as he can.

Do you know if these run on bearings, or is the blade directly on the aluminum handles like most out-the-side autos?

It’s a great auto indeed. I like it even more than my Pro-Tech TR-3, and I really like that knife. The McNees is just more ergonomic in hand.
Please slow down and show the backspacer/standoffs. No one including you shows them on this knife. Makes me wonder if they are unpleasant looking.
