Remember 6weeks to 6 months is a small window in your life. You are young, the body is an amazing functional structure. Bones heal…how amazing is callus!? Use the time to clean out your mental closets, journal your thoughts, visualise your wound healing. Pain is a great tool for focusing on the body in the now. You can’t futurize when you are shagged out in the healing phase. If you need to crash, do it. Use this time to plan your rehab. We are so busy being human “doings” this is the time to be a human “being”. |
For me it was career ending. The frustration and the struggle till accepting it, was the hardest thing. It’s so tough to handle especially if your whole life is your sport. Wish all athletes that battle with injuries a healthy and speedy recovery!
This really helped... I needed this. I’m in the US but my home where I live and was born is Germany. I’m a student doing a gap year abroad and it’s my first time being away from my family for so long. I’m in Vermont where I wanted to be to be able to practice my absolute favorite sports of all: Skiing. But unfortunately on the Wednesday during thanksgiving break, I shot of jump too high and broke my femur. I’m in despair, being away from my family and having a severe injury on me just messes with my mind. The crash was three days ago now and I feel ready for recovery, I just don’t know where to start but I think, your video helped me a lot with that question. (November 30th, 2019)
That's a really tough situation, I hope your recovery is going well and I'm glad my video was able to help in some small way, apologies for missing your comment before now! All the best to you!
I’m really stressed out I have a calf injury and I’m not really sure when I’m going to be back I’m terrified in the thought of not playing the sport I love and I’m really struggling right now
I really needed this...this was my first injury for my sport and it’s like I’m physically okay but mentally I’m the exact opposite so this is really going to help me and what happened was is that I strained my meniscus in my right knee and I know it’s not that serious but sense it was my first injury; mentally it’s so stressful and I do feel lucky because I could had messed up my knee even worse than what happened but i just wanted to say thank you for making this video for all of us athletes that go through these types of things and where it’s mentally and physically so stressful🙂
@@steampowerd2135 Wow that's a big injury, have known a fair few people that have suffered similar, great to hear you're fully recovered - well done, no easy task to recover well from something like that!
Everyone said it's gonna be ok from the outside looks good but on my training I only think about that and when we do the thing I got injuried at I get scared and I start crying.😭 Btw your video helped me a lot thanks
My problem was I didn’t have a guide or rehab plan I just did research and combine these ideas and it didn’t work. I was really in the dark bros. Now I got a plan and at least I’m feeling positive you know.
Ik this is an old video but it really helped me i just found out i am going to have to have shoulder surgery and every time someone tried to help me i pushed them away because i was frustrated that i was going to miss wrestling season. My high school wrestling career has been defined by injuries as freshman year i broke my shoulder, sophomore year i broke my shoulder blade, and this year 2 weeks before the season starts i dislocated my shoulder. Seeing this video gives me hope, which is all i can hold onto right now
Hi people I’m a semi professional table tennis player and I injured my hips at the age of 15 yo. At 17 I underwent two hip surgeries, my table tennis is over. Im 18 now and still didn’t recover..
Interested to know how you managed to afford all the appointments with practitioners during the rehab? Was the injury bad enough to prevent you from working? Did have a good amount saved up? borrow from family?
Healthcare is free at the point of use over here in the UK, we all automatically pay a small amount of 'national insurance' each month which contributes to this service being available.
Definitely a difficult situation, but the battle is to recover from your an as effectively as possible. If we worry about what the competition is doing we risk distraction from the task of recovery. We have to focus on what we can control. Impossible to do this 100% of the time, but we have to try and make it our 'default' mindset whilst injured, the mindset we use the most.
