Where to the fish, the bowl is their whole world, they can't percieve anything going on outside of it, meanwhile we as a higher being can easily see in. Tapping on the glass is a disturbance that is felt, but can't really be understood by the fish, as we try to make ourselves known to the fish. In practice it only really serves to startle the fish. To us, the edge of our four dimensions serve as the glass, and the proverbial tapping of this glass is what we percieve as supernatural experiences. Ghosts, aliens, demons, slender man, etc, is according to this idea just manifistations of something interdimensional "tapping the glass." Equal to the fish, we have no way to gaze through this glass, and these attempts (wether malicious or well meant) only serves to frighten us.
