    You're so right about Canada being excited to watch these guys again. Next two national games are Sept. 7 and 10th against the US and Mexico, respectively, and I cannot f*cking wait!

    Its amazing that Canada in a span of 8 years went from being 120 in FIFA rankings to semifinalist in Copa America, moreover in a culture where hockey and basketball historically dominates and where between November and March its difficult to play outside.
    I think what the Canadian Soccer Federation is doing with creating new domestic leagues; taking advantage of the lack of access for most urban youth to hockey with soccer as a replacement, and making dual nationals consider Canada as a team to play for, and most importantly not treating soccer as a cash cow (like how the US federation does), creating excitement over the team and culturally making "soccer" more cool among youths, makes Canada in the future a strong CONCACAF team. They really need Jesse Marsch for as long they can and I think Canada is glad that the US Soccer Federation is institutionally compromised (as Jesse Marsch insinuated). Ironically, the best way forward for the US is to follow a Canadian model and remove pay to play and culture of individualism and consumerism (both of which is difficult to do given American culture).
    I also think its well understood based on what I hear from Canadian "soccer" commentators that playing for the national team is a bridge for them to get noticed in the top European leagues and hence a reason to take it seriously.
    On a field level, they are like one good striker away from being a decent team to ensure goals are made. They also need make sure their players are playing like they are trying to prove themselves individually and collectively maintain the underdog mentality to prove themselves that they are not dorky gringos (which I think CONMEBOL, Copa referees, and teams did treat them poorly and underestimated them), and need to make sure new talent is being tested, tried, and fostered if Canada is to be a strong source of footballing talent and regular appeared in international football.

      Is it really pay to play in US? Well, it is American culture after all. How much does it cost playing for a team in US? Just that is a huge red flag. Given the population in US, just imagen how many talents and future stars they miss out on just because they came from a poor family.
      It sounds like Canada building up a healthy grassroot domestically. With that, more people will start playing and more people will support a local club. As the Canadian reputation grow, more scouts from big clubs will take notice on Canadian clubs. Similar thing happening over in Japan and South Korea in recent years.
      Future looks bright and Canada will become a strong football nation. 😊
      Unusual for me to say soccer. 😆

    I'm a trini,and that story of Dwight York coaching Jamaica was a rumor.Cuz given the rivalry between T&T and Jamaica.Jamaicans wouldn't put aside their stubborness and ego to allow a trini to coach them sadly.But on to Brazil,Do you think that because most of their players are playing in europe.Is that the main reason for their decline.Lastly,props to you Micheal.For all the work you have put in into covering the 2 tournments👏👍

    USA has to be the biggest disappointment in Copa America 2024. I know that Gregg Berhalter got the tactical genius of a wet muppet, but come on! Hosting the tournament and manage to lose against Panama and getting knocked out of that group!? 🤷‍♂️
    Think it is a shame that Colombia didn't win. They playd the most entertaining football overall and it would also be a bit refreshing watching someone other then Brazil, Argentina or Uruguay winning Copa America. 😅

    I remember Cavani had kind of the same start on the Celeste. I cant recall exactly but i think he waa playing for Palermo where he was becoming a star (before Napoli). Although, playing for the Uruguay team he missed passes and shots (Kinda like Darwin Nuñez) but he became a staple of the team and a key player.

    I don't think the panic rating is appropriate for the USA, Mexico or even Jamaica. Yes they all need work, but not panic mode.

    • @BlacknWhiteBadger88
      @BlacknWhiteBadger88 Місяць тому

      Panic button is absolutely valid for all 3.
      Jamaica are ALWAYS mired in some form of controversy regarding their players and their federation, despite having very talented players
      The US had the literal EASIEST grouping you could think of playing Bolivia and Panama, and they lost their composure within 20 minutes of the match. Granted, coaching should fix that and the US is probably the one team of the 3 to turn it around just because of the talent they have, but I digress.
      Mexico is completely and utterly fucked. There is no player development, and worse is that there is no incentive for this corrupt ass federation to do anything about it since they’re already qualified for the World Cup being a host nation, which will FURTHER stall development IMO. The Mexico outlook looks VERY depressing.

    • @djknox2
      @djknox2 Місяць тому

      @@BlacknWhiteBadger88 Well if you are correct, then I would expect to see Canada beat both in upcoming friendlies and to go on and win the next NL. If Canada can't do that, then just maybe the panic rating was a bit much. TIme will tell...

    Argentina - champions yet they could have done better.
    Colombia - good run
    Brasil, USA - dissapointed. (Hype train crash)
    Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay - should be ashamed (id love jamaica doing better)
    Venezuela, Ecuador - well done. Needs work but its looking better
    Panama and Canada - has potential
    Uruguay - Fair. Could be better.

    Colombia is overrated. Argentina controlled the whole game and took them out. Colombia never reacted or adjusted to what was happening. Any other good team could do the same to them.

    • @elche1976

      Zero shots on goal after halftime. Argentina adapted and just dictated how that game went. Not pretty, but they know how to win.

    • @manu-animation-924
      @manu-animation-924 Місяць тому +3

      They had two of their best players out and they looked tired. They had a hard run against Uruguay and Paraguay but they could have done better. They had a more original type of play reminiscent of the same type of originality Brazil had during the great football era. They clearly have a bright future, but Argentina played very well sadly it will be the last strong win of Argentina Messi prime with depart of Dimaria and moments Argentina played slow with questionable play weak compare to 2020 and 2022.

    • @elche1976
      @elche1976 Місяць тому +1

      @manu-animation-924 oddly enough, Argentina beats Colombia in the final with a Messi that people thought was not very good. And he played 63 min. The streak started after Argentina beat Colombia 1-0 in qualifying on Feb 1st 2022. Interestingly enough, without Messi. As a team, Argentina is better and adapts well to opponents. They'll be fine.

    • @Cojoal

  • @Wladislav
    @Wladislav Місяць тому

    I'd probably put Argentina in the "Good Outing" category.
    Didn't play extremely well, and a few careers are (nearly) at an end, but the core of players that should reach the 2026 World Cup is solid, and they should be getting a few more soon.
    And also the morons singing on the bus, and their subsequent posts about it, of course.

    • @elche1976
      @elche1976 Місяць тому +1

      So, they'll be contenders for 26, won the Copa America, Jane Young players coming up, won without needing Messi playing great.... and you'd put them in good outing. 🙄 Argentina adapts to each game and just wins.

    • @Wladislav
      @Wladislav Місяць тому

      @@elche1976 Nothing wrong with "good outing" if you ask me!
      To me, it also depends on where the team was before this, and Argentina started as the number 1 in the world, and finished as the number 1 in the world. 😅
      Do I feel better or worse about Argentina after the Copa América?
