In that heavy colonial iron zero seems to be the way to go.
I run silencer at 2-3 which really helps in identifying deep or irregular iron. You can dig and recover the shallower targets quickly if they sound good regardless of the numbers and move-on, but it takes awhile to clean up from a 12-18 hole. Need to dig the deep ones in the UK.

Good video! On my Deus2, I already have silencer set at 0. Considering what you just showed in this video, what would be the advantage of using silencer?
You could actually use it to test targets by running it higher after you find it with silencer of 0 but if you run it up to 4 or 5 you still hear it then odds are you have a good non ferrous target. If you do hit a target with a silencer of 4 then your chances are that it’s a good target. Running at 0 has its advantages but it also has disadvantages. You will get fooled on some iron targets. 👍

Good video teach. If you could, I would like to see a video of the difference between the silencer and discrimination. We know the lower the discrimination the more you will pick up what’s the difference?

I have a problem with Iron on the beach in beach sensitive man I dig lots of nails though I did get a 1940 Washington and a 1907 barber quarter
You could implement more of the bottle cap reject if the iron is driving you nuts only thing though is that applying more filter could cause you miss gold.
Thank you SRA. I was thinking about this the other day. So Im guessing all of us D2 (and D1)users always use 0 or 1. I don’t think I’ve ever used nothing but 0. But we have 0-6. Doesn’t make sense to me. I cant think of 1 scenario where i would use anything above 1. Can anyone make this make sense please? Reactivity, we use more of the whole scale of #’s. Ty
Going up only quiets the machine down more. That’s it. Maybe someone just starting would do it. 👍
Usually on an iron laden site, I don't go past 1 on the silencer.

Teach, good vid man. Zero Silencer in the iron offers the best separation and the best chance at good VDI. Folks also need to understand Silencer will change (go up) if you drop your reactivity, so you need to chase silencer a bit. I don't know why it's designed this way; I wish I could just shut it off.
Are you talking about Deus 1 ?
@@southernrelicadventures Deus 2 does it as well. I have a custom cellar hole program that starts at 2.5 reactivity, if I turn it down slower when the iron gets light, silencer jumps up to 2. Try your machine Teach, it will change. I think 2.5 is the break point, if I turn it up to 3, Silencer stays at Zero.
@@jaystrongbow6111 what version software are you running on D2 ? I just did it on general and it didn’t change the silencer 🤷♂️
I ran it all the way up to 4 and all the way down to 0!and silencer did not change
@@southernrelicadventures V 0.6 ...... When I zero Silencer in general program and drop reactivity from 3 to 2, Silencer jumps to 2. Must be the software, learn something new every day. Thanks!!
