  • @Stan3.0-m6g
    @Stan3.0-m6g Рік тому

    4:09 those are a adapted invasive species, there is no strict laws on them because they're technically native to America.

    • @buckeyemyrmecology
      @buckeyemyrmecology Рік тому +1

      While immigrans have been in the US longer than most invasive species, they are still harmful to native ant species, and shouldn't be considered okay to have in the environment. Luckily they tend to stick to disturbed habitats, unlike some other invasives. The reason we sell immigrans is because while invasive, they can still be useful in teaching people about ants! It's also better to collect them and have them in our contained setups than to leave them outside and potentially displace other ants😅

    I find it odd your tetramorium immigrans are orange not sure if they just emerge but the ones in canada are pure black and also their stings arent bad it just feels like a small itch so no worrys on being stung by them

    • @EnderAnts
      @EnderAnts  Рік тому

      They get darker as they age, but its a neat perk they have. Also could have been because I raised the saturation of the video so they are more orange than usual.

  • @TmanMoneymanISSUPREME
    @TmanMoneymanISSUPREME Рік тому +1

    It’s nice that your vlog style from your black light video has returned to see the light once again, love that your posting again
    Also I keep a colony of tetramourium immigrans as well, so if you need any tips, just ask me!
    But just as a guide, they really like substrate to dig around in, but not necessarily to nest in, they are also one of the least picky ants to keep, so most insects will do, they don’t like earthworms however, they also eat nuts and seeds, so I recommend you give them crushed almonds, walnuts, and chia seeds, or most other seeds, in the wild they eat human food a lot, probably because they live primarily in urban and suburban areas, but my colony doesn’t like human food except for cheese, these ants prefer fairly dry humidity conditions, not as dry as carpenter ants, but if you work with a moisture gradient keep 30-40% moist and the rest dry, I’ve heard from other sources that they love humidity but I think they like moderate humidity, not too dry or too wet, pavement ants are really easy to house, so pretty much any nest will work with them, I’ve heard they like thin and tight tunnels but I keep them in a nest with open chambers and lots of Space and they seem to be just fine (they barely grow but they’ve stagnated in test tubes as well, plus they put alot of the substrate in their nest to make it more homey for them), Pavement ant colonies usually max out at 10k workers when they are mature, normally this would happen within a couple years, but my colony is really bad at growing, they are only at around 100 after more than 1 year, idk why this is happening, but I hope they stop this stagnation

    • @EnderAnts
      @EnderAnts  Рік тому +1

      Thanks, next few videos are in this type of style. Will definitely give them some seeds, that would be fun to see them collect. I'll give them a lot of different foods to see what mine prefer. Was planning on moving them into a tubs and tubes setup, so it will be interesting seeing what they do with their substrate. Appreciate the tips a lot, thank you !!
