- Larry Mayer with Solution Design Inc. describes the frost protected shallow foundation techniques being used in a home in Fargo, ND. Part of the NDSU Energy series of educational videos.
The 4' wing won't she'd water laying flat. It should be pitched away from the building if shedding water was the intention. The way it's laying flat it only insulates the ground out to a further point from the footing. Upon backfilling if the ground compresses that foam could pitch toward the footer creating a trough bringing water in the direction of the footing.
Would you be willing to help me design a house. @randyscrafts8575. Looking for someone in the northeast. My zip is 01106. Let me know if interested. Homeowner having difficulty finding contractors who know this
Absolutely smart and well executed!
Frost-protected shallow foundation is a building method to build above the frost line, this is just an insulated foundation.
Nice to see that someone still cares about how the house is built.
This is amazing
Is it possible to have a thermal break without a perimeter footing, such as in Post Frame style?
Can I use same foundation to make earthen floor instead of concrete?
Absolutely.
I don't believe the EPS is more susceptible to moisture. What product is used in docks?. Not the extruded product. Just saying
I saw no french drains anywhere
What if the water table rises to just below the slab
The structure is built on a moat, but what if it wasn't, would a french drain be added, if yes, where would it be placed?
IMHO this type of foundation doesn't need it.
So the apron won't be susceptible to frost heave???
What he mentioned would prevent settling along the garage side of the apron
The same foundation often built here (North-West Russia). But using XPS (extruded polystyrene foam). IMHO most expensive foundation without basement and uncertain effectiveness. I think this type of foundation promoted by foam producers.
How can I jack up the a small house all around concrete blocks foundation
Cover it with dirt and point at it with your foot. I like half-@ss!
