When I first saw the title, I instantly gave Balalaika the win (same as most people) simply due to all the experience she and her men have obtained from war/combat. -1v1, Bala wins hands down. She just too experienced and far more capable than Koko in a fight or on a battlefield; she literally has the scars to prove it. Koko, in a sense, is far too sheltered as she comes from money, and while she can very well handle a gun despite herself, she still falls short compared to Bala, or even someone like her (Revy, Roberta, Eda, take your pick). So yeah... -Now, give them their squads with same # of men and throw them into battle, and Bala's team would still win. For this I'd have to say "no school like old school", and reason why is, as you've stated and as is well-known, they're all experienced, war-hardened veterans who can dominate virtually any terrain and eviscerate their targets. They may not rely on tech as much as Koko's team would, but they know how to make do without it, and that I believe is what give them the win. -For the final scenario, however, I agree with your conclusion and do believe sufficient prep time would be the deciding factor. With ample prep time comes amassing all the resources at your disposal, and it's shown that Koko has that shit on lock. Yes Bala and her men have their combat experience, weapons training and elite marksmanship, but being stuck in the small scope of a city like Roanapur heavily limits their options. Tanks are too big and “modern” technology might be too much of a culture shock to them that they’d rather go without it as they feel they couldn’t keep up. Koko being more into sophisticated and advanced technology gives her side that considerable edge, as she combines both military tactics and arms dealing with expert use of tech to dominate anyone in ways they couldn’t imagine, let alone manage to do themselves. In short, yes Balalaika might come out on top when fighting with what’s available to her and relying on her own skills as a war veteran, but that would only work in certain conditions (i.e. the first 2); on the other hand, Koko would definitely win when given just enough time to plan and outmaneuver and eventually overwhelm her opponent with the seemingly endless resources she has (money, weapons, connections, tech), to the point that she wouldn’t even need to set foot in a warzone to do it. THAT’S BADASS. Great vid, definitely made me learn something and even changed my view on the subject that I had to rewatch the last scenario to understand it better. Keep it up dude (and sorry for the essay, but it had to be said). XD
Koko has experience too in my opinion at least and her team is unbelievably skilled only unable to deal with seal team six balalaika wasn’t able to handle the twins in direct combat who for all their skills were just two kids. And yes she did eventually win. But she had to split them up. Meanwhile I don’t think that’s possible with Koko’s team I think they are just stronger overall valmet for example is basically Roberta in terms of strength
ProfessorViral koko I think would win both because she has access to more serious weapons like she was able to get multiple rockets into space and get access to SAMS also if you take the song “time to attack” into account she has more guns than the navy though I think that’s an exaggeration. But even when she had soldiers betray her convoy she annihilated them. She essentially defeated the world by the end of jormungand (I’m exaggerating but she made airplanes no longer a thing) I just think given the scale of black lagoon vs jormungand koko wins but balalaika has a chance at least I’d say a 30% chance maybe 40% I think koko has the edge
I think you make the mistake of Balilika's men not being willing to stay at her side regardless of Hotel Moscow's orders. Those men fought and bled with her in war, and all returned to the same hell she did. Those men would stay by her side regardless of anyone's orders or rank. No order from Hotel Moscow or Jorgunmund could get those men to leave their commander.
I should have specified, I said that one with the intension that they would deal with her with men from elsewhere in the organization. There's for sure nothing that could shift her men's opinion of her
A fight between these two to me feels like a fight between Punisher and Batman; the Hotel Moscow crew has the experience and time under their belt to always be ready to go whereas it seems just like Batman, Koko and her crew require prep time for every encounter. I can see Koko winning a fight (where both parties are given little to no prep time) due to the weapons in her arsenal but it would still be a narrow victory.
I haven't seen much comic related stuff to say, but it seems like a fair comparison. Koko can basically money her way out of a situation. It's fair to say she may come out on top in some of the battles under the 2nd scenario, if she's able to predict their movements, adjust, and apply some pressure from her arsenal. I would definitely agree that it would be close though, the only two of her's I'm giving a good survival rate to are Jonah and Valmet
@@ProfessorViral lehm is ex delta force and im not sure if ur counting r as alive or dead but both of these ppl actually out rank valmet with any type of gun also Willie is delta force Idk if he'd rank above valmet with a gun or not but I'd imagine so but can't make it 100% but as shown in the show he usually has explosives on hand so he can use them in the instant which he's a fucking master mind at and as far as gun play goes I would put Jonah below all the ones mentioned in this list but he does have that 6th sense which helps a shit ton but still doesn't quite make up for his lack of aiming skills
@@mattmalone9245 The thing is Jonah after teaming up with Kasper who is arguably way more violent then his sister. Came back even deadlier then before. So much so that Caquita was sad to seem him go and said that she would rather lose one of her other teammates then Jonah because he was so strong. This is coming from a women who could match Valmet in hand to hand combat.
This is about what I thought too given the premise, but an important note is that Koko has been taken off-guard plenty of times and if it had been Hotel Moscow putting the Squad on their back foot instead of incompetent french goofballs or pantiless gunslingers, that would've been game over. If Balalaika comes for Koko it's entirely out of the black.
They didn’t really fight Night 9, they more so just outmaneuvered them. If it came down to a real gunfight between Koko’s crew and Night 9, US Special Forces win
The real issue is that Balalaika, even if fast forwarded in time, is still just a relic of the 80's. Much like a T-72 tank, she doesn't stand much of a chance against 2010 technology and tactics. Man vs man, her and her people come out on top, but Jormungand alone is insurmountable in its power for them. Even if they went for full guerilla tactics living in the sewers Punisher style, Jormungand would make it impossible to actually get close to Koko.
If it's just between Koko and Balalaika and their chosen squads in a closed deathmatch with no outside help I don't see Koko's side winning, but the sheer scope and access of her resources make this comparison unfair. You'd need all of Roanapur's heaviest hitters and their best people to make a dent against everything Koko has at her disposal.
That's very true, with Koko at her fullest capacity, anyone against her is pretty much unfair. That's why I included the first two scenarios, to emphasize that Balalaika is excellent, but loses simply to the result of billions of dollars
Balalaika would've most likely encountered Floyd Hekmatyar (Koko's father) along with Lehm and Chiquita. That would make for an interesting match up if we knew more about him.
On paper, Balalaika wins no doubt however...If they did reach an encounter, Koko has already won, it's shown time and time again that she plans everything far ahead of time, there would already be multiple militias and armies on the way to confront Balalaika's team. It's the sheer fact that Koko is an information god with Jormangund at her hands.

Big agree at the end. Koko has too much going for her information warfare wise. And there's another factor I feel plays against Balalaika. She, like all of Roanapur is the living dead as they say. Stuck in a particular mindset. She can adapt, to a degree but she's not *as* adaptable as Koko's squad is. Her team are similarly not as adaptable. Every problem is a nail and violence is the hammer for them. They only choose in a few instances to employ things in a less extreme way. Koko meanwhile has it seems plans within plans, and contingencies for various situations. Look at the way she manipulated the weapons deal in favor of HCLI when dealing with the Russian woman, we keep thinking " has she met her match there" and fuck no, she out played her as well with information warfare. She can be surgical, or employ ultraviolence depending on what's called for, Balalaika only has the few responses.
As a complete military novice, I honestly gave Balalaika the benefit of the doubt, and believed that they would be adaptable and so on. I can see the argument that they're more set in their ways, as they essentially respond to most things with excessive force, but I don't think I could really make the judgement myself. But, I guess since Koko blows everyone out of the water, it doesn't change much
Have now seen and like your input between the two..yes each have their strengths and weaknesses, one old school while the other is somewhat of a Techno Freak.. When all is said and done, it just comes down to the leadership and there is a good chance when the dust settles..it would just be the two of them standing face to face with guns drawn.. But what happens during that stand off..would be the stuff of legends..
Okay, so here's my two cents, bear in mind, Ive only seen Black Lagoon. Koko's intelligence based tactics, Balalaika has the upper hand, for two reasons. The first, is because of the soviet archives being practically impossible to crack. Even Koko wouldnt be able to gain a background on Balalaika. The second reason, is that Balalaika's mentality, is simply: "Kill, Destroy, Win," Which leaves Koko practically useless in predicting Hotel Moscow's movements. Now Koko does posess the digital and firepower advantage, sure, but here's the thing. Hotel Moscow has never, and likely will never, utilise equipment that could possibly be hacked or detected, simply due to the outdated USSR tech they favor. Koko's anime protagonists of her squad are also pretty much just each the twins from the vampire arc in Black Lagoon... And we all know how that went. Finally, we've never seen Balalaika, nor Hotel Moscow, engage an enemy where they have taken any form of serious casualties. Thus, we have never seen them engage an enemy with their fangs out. Aight, that was it, feel free to disagree :)
It just makes me happy that these two do actually exist in the same universe and since a young Koko has sold weapons to Dutch before it’s more than likely that Koko(or her brother at least) have sold weapons to Balilika.
however theres some points i disagree on, for example balalaika beeing limited to 8 soldiers, and yes that would be fair if they weren't fighting velmet and the war child, their agility is vast superior than the hotel moscow soldiers and therefore the 2x8 (or 2x9 if balalaika was included) would be a simple win for valmet, the soldiers have experience in war, but so do valmet and the war child, and their agility is on equal foot as balalaika if not superior, meaning that in a 2v1 against balalaika would not end well for her, now onto thinking about the equipment superiority i think that the situation of koko is way better than what was said in the video, she could end the fight with one MQ-9 reaper equiped with hellfires, and even if drones weren't in the combat, koko has acess to mig 29 planes and mi 24 hind helicopters, the hind could be easily killed with something like a stinger anti air missile which balalaika knows because thats what happend in the soviet afghan war, but an aircraft like the mig 29 would take actual SAMs to be shot down, and furthermore talking about the B52 strategic bombers the only way they would be taken down is either with a SAM or with another aircraft. Not to mention aswell that both SAMs and planes could be hacker by jormungand, since SAMs usually use a radar to guide the missile and the plane depends on its instruments to keep flying, those beeing radar and the values given by the plane, like speed and altitude, thinking this way the only possible win for balalaika would be a long range combat with koko being unable to use her tools, koko's squad has 2 good snipers, hotel moscow has 2 confirmed snipers and balalaika herself giving hotel moscow an advantage

He forgot to input the fact that Hotel Moscow can literally pop up ANYWHERE in the word without any warning. This has been implied multiple times in Black Lagoon. She can use her drones, but she probably can't stop the squad knocking on her door already.
With full power Jormungand, they wouldn't even be able to get close to her door. She would have constant surveillance on any threats. Hotel Moscow is good, but the god of information is the best at what she does
Koko does fight but only when it’s advantageous normally she’s leading and cordnating as the individual soldiers need to focus on fighting and can’t focus on leading. The few times koko herself fights it’s because for whatever reason it’s advantageous to. But usually she’s better as a leader but she absolutely can fight and she carries a desert eagle and is great with guns. Koko on her own is a deadly combatant but with her team and connections she’s boarderlije unstoppable
bro im a fan of both and tbh, I can agree with Koto winning, But i feel like if She didnt have Jormungand or any tech as Balalaika doesn't, I think Balalaika would win, But Koto would win cause of her wealth and tech over all but...Just combat ill give it to Balalaika. Honesty, it just depends on where and when the situation is. Ill give them both a tied but Balalaika has serious advantages over koto as well as koto has advantages over Balalaika. so its gonna be a equal for me
They each have advantages that help, but with Jormungand Koko's advantages are complete blowouts against almost anyone. For actual combat though, Balalaika for sure takes things

yeah, balalaika comes out on top in most combat scenarios because of her tactics going towards beeing timeless If they didnt know eachother before going against eachother koko would eventually come out on top If balalaike knew what she would be fighting then id say the win goes to her because if i were balalaika, and knew that my opponent would be exponentially stronger the longer time flies, i would make the opponent (Koko in this case) extremly nervous and paranoid, play some psychological warfare but also strike as soon as possible. Koko underestimating and miscalculating is the key for balalaika But having a Jormungand on your side is quite something and could potentially pit the world against you so...balalaika cant allow herself more than a couple of days at best from my pov in this case we have 2 extremlly skilled leaders and in the end it would depend on their strategy and quick answers When it comes to the trustworthyness of the men, it would be those of balalaika (not comparing the squads but both sides with all of what they have). Even though Koko has a loyal fireteam and some scientists, she would need to buy an army...but not balalaika When it comes to the battlefield advantages i would say its tipped towards kokos favor because of her technology and beeing able to have air support if she demands it (but even that needed time as stated in the video) Considering that balalaika has an army that is kinda also a mafia, her HQ would probabaly either an underground military base off the official maps or a place with urban enviroment but given that she may have more control over a military base, id say that she would rather do that if she wouldnt have the opportunity to strike first Kokos methods take time but are ultimately her key to victory while balalaika could quickly bring the fight to her if she so desires and a lot of pressure while she does and seemingly beeing able to move the enemy to here she wants in a battle scenario So if we would need a short version: - Koko is the type of player in a real time strat game that knows hats OP in the mid to end game - Balalaika knows what is OP in the early to mid game and would rush the sht out of Koko, given the fact that her methods are more in favor for that type of gameplay in that case
Honestly I don't agree I believe Balalaika's ability to be crafty, constantly willing to shift the goal post, and shrewd experience pool in both the military and the underworld would make it hard for even a godly information broker to definitively nail down kill a dozen of her people, cripple her efforts to push huge, but this is all throwing the favor zone directly into the broker's zone. The fight effectively becomes less than one group vs another more so 'how many groups would it take to undermine Hotel Moscow'. Especially since the way the last twin died was essentially Bala pulling the rug out of the feet at the very end of the trip something she may be able to do here too. She, nor Moscow didn't need to be there just one person.
My girl Koko is not actually an inept fighter. By herself she can still operate, she just doesn't anymore, but she used to. I don't think toe to toe a fight between Koko and Bala would be as clean a sweep as you might imagine, though Bala would probably still win. On the flipside, you don't need to reduce Hotel Moscow's numbers. Koko and HCLI would absolutely destroy them. Hotel Moscow stands zero chance against what is essentially a deity. Even with her small squad Koko would walk all over Hotel Moscow. Jormungand is completely capable of predicting every detail about Balalaika and Hotel Moscow with ease months in advance. You just can't fight that. Bookman isn't joking when he calls Koko a "goddess of information".
Hotel Moscow buys the arms it needs from the Rip-Off Church. But where does the Rip-Off Church get it's wares? HCLI has been shown to shut down fellow LARGE SCALE arms dealers. I'm quite sure they can shut down a relatively small scale operation like the Rip-Off Church, and every other arms dealer in Roannapur
Hey may have the ability to, but I think with Koko a lot of the situations differ to her Jormungand advantage. She'll have a notice that something is going wrong before it can even happen, and she never has to move on them directly
The problem in this match-up is you simply put Balalaika in the Digital era, but the result will be reversed if you put Koko's team in Balalaika's Era. If it's information war is the thing your gonna based on. Balalaika would probably sniff out Koko and how cunning she was. There is a reason why Koko has a lot of assassination attempts, to begin with. She is not completely hidden.
You didn't mention the most important aspect of a battle between them, the idiological or ''big picture", balalaika needs war to stay alive, and koko basically stops all wars entirely with jormungand, and I am willing to bet that in this fight balalaika has no chance at all of winning.professor viral#
There's one point of contention here. The technology gap is merely a matter if time. That is to say they exist in different times. Balalaika exists in the '80-90s, Koko in the '00-'10s. For it to be a fair fight you'd have to bring one of them back or the other forward. If you bring Balalaika forward in time, she loses. None of the new technology available to her presents an advantage in fact presents a disadvantage of she were to even use them. On the other hand if we brought Koko backwards and remove high end drones and digital communication, hands down no contest, it's a Balalaika win regardless of the preplanning. Even if we keep Jormungand in play the technology gap on the ground heavily diminishes or delays what effect it can have, as much of it is still analogue. Where digital technology is available it would almost certainly still be being used in tandem with analogue counterparts for verification due to lack of trust or design limitations. This means disinformation can be can be detected on most cases just through basic routine.
Although I do believe Koko would be able to beat Balalaika given a plan and information of Balalaika's outfit I feel restricting her from the original minimum of 21 to 8 is giving a handy cap to Koko. With information of how Balalaika operates Koko should be able to draw her out and into a situation where large numbers and brute force wouldn't help. Like in a boarding action at sea, where both sides have cargo vessels and the use of drones and false orders to passing navies would put Balalaika in an attritional fight where her resources would do her very little, even if you counted both the Rip-off Church, and the Lagoon Company as a part of her assets.
I understand your logic and agree on everything besides one point you say Coco would never find herself in a situation where she is without her ability to plan ahead. But I disagree even if she is aware there is going to be combat at some point in the future and her team is ready for it she still can’t use a lot of her advantages because calling in airstrikes or military unit ultimately take time. Like just because I know I’m going to be attacked today does it mean I can just start randomly carpet bombing places and although she technically has the ability to just be randomly carpet bombing places it goes against her general style.I don’t think she would survive long enough from the time the engagement started to be able to actually utilize either of them
Without having finished the video, id put my money on baliliaika simply due to her high level of first hand combat experience, discipline, and resouecefulness. She doesnt have as much money as koko im assuming but chances are shed likely already know about koko and could easily come up with a plan to kil her before koko could
I bet on Koko while Balalaika is definitely no pushover and definitely a threat. She doesn't have the power Koko has when it comes to money and dropping missiles on folks. I wouldn't be surprised if Koko had a couple of nukes around. I've seen Balalaika bomb some places and hire people to kill some of her enemies I never seen her had this kind of power like Koko. One thing Balalaika does have is experience but Koko is highly intelligent and has more resources she can utilize. So definitely think Koko got the win.
We need to make an assumption to get a better answer. We need to assume if they are both told at the same time they need to kill each other. I doubt koko would know much of balalaika but i belive she would alrwady know of kokos existence and abilities. If we assume they had time to plan for a long time i agree koko wins. If bal strikes first and quickly im pretty sure she would win. I think hotel mosco is also a big factor. Is there anything koko could say or do to make them betray bel? If not then a first strike kill from bel is almost guaranteed. We saw how her team was in chaos when 3 people stormed her apartment unannounced
I have two answers; Balalaika vs Koko Hekmatyar If it’s the two women in a 1v. 1 fight the Balalaika would win since she’s a highly skilled and trained fighter. If it’s their organizations fighting each other then I think Koko would win due to her team having superior firepower, resources, training and technology. Remember, Black Lagoon takes place in the 1990s while Jormungand takes place today. Koko would have a 20+ year technological advantage over Hotel Moscow.
Balalaika and Koko both know how to attract devoted people so would be an interesting fight. Also would be nice to see the comparison of Black Cat aka Train Heartnet from Back Cat and The Black Reaper aka Hei from Darker Than Black.
It makes no sense to make this comparison, unless you were talking about a one on one battle with the squad. In my opinion, a soldier like Jonah would be comparable to the romanian twins(slayed with balaika unarmed). Balaliaka's squad is one that has the power to eliminate an entire squad of US Marines (That koko had to evade by hacking GPS). Balalaika herself is an experienced fighter from her youth (koko has experience only leading from her youth). But realistically, Koko has enough dough to call a fleet of battleships so my first point stands
Balalaika vs Koko - Balalaika Squad v Squad - Balalaika No Planning - Balalaika Planned Confrontation - Koko Like you said, Koko’s squad can’t hold a candle to veteran soldiers and they didn’t really beat Night Nine, more so outmaneuvered them. In a planned confrontation, Koko would win but it will probably cost her most of, if not all of her squad and more. Any enemy she throws Balalaika’s way will more than likely get wiped out unless it’s the U.S Military and it’ll take more than Drones and Bombers to kill Balalaika. They both plan ahead, but Balalaika is better in this aspect. If she knows what Koko is capable of, she can just put her in a position where she can’t access or fully utilize Jormungand. Also, Hotel Moscow is known to have connections with agencies like the KGB so it won’t be hard for her to acquire anti-air weaponry.
i think realistically, they'd become friends and do business together... albeit the kind of friends who have sniper teams standing by every second they are together lol! but Balalaika has a soft spot for interesting quirky people like Koko, not to mention Koko's incredible charisma and intelligence, and the kinds of wares Koko has access to. and Koko i think would respect Balalaika's position and power, the little slice of the world this hardened spetsnatz officer carved out for herself instead of allowing all she sacrificed be for nothing. also, Koko has no issues associating with murderers, criminals, and gangsters as long as they don't disrespect her and i doubt Balalaika would have any disrespect for Koko and her Crew. especially since when things get serious, even without being a trained soldier herself, Koko becomes colder than ice with a smile etched onto her face, and doesnt flinch even when people die right in front of her... these are two women who would absolutely meet together for tea and to talk business, laughing at each other's war stories, before stopping for five minutes to listen to the sounds of both their squads executing some hitmen who were trying to kill them both. Koko would watch and sip her tea as Balalaika twists a knife in the only hitman left alive to learn who ordered the hit, before slitting the man's throat. and then Koko would most likely offer Balalaika a clean handkerchief to wipe off the blood with before they both resume their chatting like nothing happened i think these two Animes/Manga's would make for a great mash-up though for all their characters lol! like HCLI visiting Roanapur for a massive arms deal with multiple crime families there i think Revy and Valmet would likely get into a brawl over some crass thing Revy says about Koko. Tojo and Rock would watch the brawl while chatting about Japan. Dutch and Lehm would be chuckling, drinking scotch, and trying to guess each-other's former military units based on miniscule details, the list goes on! potential gold-mine of fanservice ngl!
i'd say if they were both in the same year balilaika would have current russian military technology and she would win because theres radar jammers and plenty of new tech to counter surveillance and take out enemies from afar

I agree that with the final all out battle koko would win she just has too many resources. She could probably take on hundreds of hotel Moscow’s soldiers with it that being said balalaika is still insanely strong and theirs a reason no one screws with her too much in the show. In the power level of black lagoon balalaika is queen and everyone else is mostly unable to stop her but if koko was in black lagoon (which is my headcanon) koko would be queen she has the best of everything she needs. However that being said it’s correct that some of her team would be weaker than some of hotel Moscow’s soldiers as for instance the former mafia guy pretty much joined because koko thought he was a good guy which I think he is
I'm going to give it to Balalika simply cause of one reason special forces member train like there going against another special forces team all the time meaning information blackouts and extremely tough conditions. The problem with Kokos squad is that they are constantly lucky with the the people they fight making so many rookie mistakes like how night nine legit only had the drone for info on enemy locations which is bullshit. They would have immediately had a map and cordon off the escape route at the border They wouldn't have immediately engaged. Before she escaped. Plus no military sends a single squad of soldiers on a mission like that it would have been a 3:1 situation that's how it's always has been. Battles were never suppose to be fair once those guys are sent. Kokos enemies are always making the most simple mistakes that wouldn't happen in reality especially with how much they train. Her luck and Mary sue nature is just breakneck goofy. I do argee though that in a squad to squad battle no support total black out which would be the norm for elite soldiers Balalika would win. Though with support which depending on terrain Koko I could win. In an Urban environment koko would still lose. In an open desert or snowy terrian or jungle area then Koko would win but even that's still cutting close.
Idk, I think that balalika would be able to come out on top If they knew who they were up against because balalika was basically toying with Yukio and she is around the same age as koko it seems, you don't need to have superior technology to defeat a force with superior technology. It may be possible that balalika has some well trained fighter pilots but they just pocus on her ground capabilities because honestly most of the missions did not require air assets and the ones that did it wasn't very large scale but I be she as a commander could acquire those assets if the situation called for it. It is also the case that even with all the intel in the world something can go wrong or happen unexpected that you had no way of knowing about and that's called the unpredictable element of chaos in battle and Balalika excels at chaotic situations.
Let's not forget that Koko is a crack shot in her own right, as shown in Jormungand Perfect Order. When standardizing the crew's gear, Koko is invited to "fire some rounds". The resulting shots has Lutz (one of the team's snipers) complaining about possible punishment if they aren't able to match her shots.
If I had to think of any man on earth capable of going toe to toe with either of these two frightening women it would have to be Big Boss from metal gear solid with his MSF or diamond dogs units he could probably take em on.
Comparing between two is like mafia vs spy/intelligence agency. HCLI has intel gathering capabilities that makes the team aware who are the dangerous individuals in the area they visit. There is no way mafia boss can sneak attack her. Comparing the team, mafias are ex VDV ( elites in soviet army ), it is also true for Koko's team most of them are ex special forces, spies, CTU and deltas. Except Jonah, Mao & Ugo they all are best in their fields. There is no way battle hardened VDV can match them in combat. And Balalaika grabbing Koko is slim because jonah or most likely valmet will always around her. If hotel moscow and koko fight, Hotel Moscow will serve Koko since gaining them will help alot for her business. If Balalaika manage to kill off one of the member then shen can dig underground bomb shelter for B-52 visits.
Just like you said about balilaika "give her a opponent and she will toppled it" knowing her she needs time be hidden and strike but frontal combat? Yes that is suicide something she won't do. She would try to beat jormungand first and then just as its down for a single minute she can finish off koko squad.
For squads it’s not much of a contest I say this because In each show balalaika’s soldiers are shown to be good but not amazing where as koko’s team is basically the best of the best
Think Koko would take this one. If they were even then Bailelika would take it but Koko has enough money and connections to flood Roanapur with mercenaries or Capet bomb the city into oblivion.
Honestly, 1v1 I just want to slightly disagree. Koko could probably come up with a deal that was mutually beneficial/defuse the situation. She has talked her way out of situations before. I mean in one episode she managed to trick a general that wanted a new RADAR array, and get a group of bloodthirsty soldiers to let her past the border against their orders with zero misinformation and just talk. That being said that's still only a tie so I'd give it to Balalaik.
It could be an epic battle but honestly, imagine them being friends or partner could be way more epic 😀and I love both the characters I can't choose between them
I haven't watched either, but, from what I know, I think the Captain takes it. If you give both access to meta elements, I think that the former Soviet's preference for low-tech would play a crucial role in keeping her and her men hidden. Not to mention that, as you said, there are many looking to kill Koko anyway, so I'm sure Balalaika could get a contact, locate her, and from there, use word of mouth, landline phones, and old radios to communicate. As for bombers, etc. good luck trying to justify bombing an entire city just to get a group of former Soviet soldiers. It could even cause nuclear war. Finally, I just hate how Koko sounds like every Mary-Sue ever, just without the "being as strong as men" part. Honestly just makes me want to watch her die in pathetic fashion like that scene with the twins.
I don't think the advantage in material and technology would be definitive, In the Soviet-Afghan war the Soviets held a massive advantage and still lost. I have no doubt Balalaika would be just as adaptable against such overwhelming odds. It'd still be stacked in favor of Koko though.
Balalaika can adapt to the changes Koko's advantage thrusts on her and her soldiers with no problem, but the advantage Koko gains directly for herself is near insurmountable

I’m fan of Koko. Hate to admit it but if they only fight with the mens they have, Balalaika would win. Balalaika has an company level of special forces, WW3 pre-trained soldier. Koko has 9 elite, loyal guardian. However, if they both given time prepared and go all out, Koko’s arsenal would simply bring hell to Balalaika. I would say that is not going to happen though, because there is no reason to be.
Doesn’t Balaliaka have Russian Migs at her disposal? I don’t know if I remember this correctly but in the Japan arc I remember seeing a bunch of Russian jets at an airport in one scene

Since I was going off of Koko at the end of the anime, I didn't include R simply because he was gone before that point, but I could have given him a shout for sure, my bad there! Also, I haven't seen that one as of yet, but I try not to rule anything out!

Koko is Cipher in the sense of manipulation and information control, not to mention reach of influence. Meanwhile Balalakia is more like The Boss in the sense of experience and driving loyalty from the soldiers that were "thrown away" after war is over. She never quite grew as grand a following as the boss, which is here weakness. Her army is small and just like The Boss she would probably be defeated by Cipher's (Koko in this semse) ability to manipulate on a world stage level.
Koko had the whole world at end of anime but . Balalaika: she has jormungand hire golgo13 , she has nuke send yujiro . And there was also a lady at rank SSS in anime gangsta way similar to balalaika
the 2nd and 3rd characters sounds like a Mary Sues to be honest. if youre talking about reality, Balalaika is better. Also one does not know when an ambush will happen (I know this is anime and its fictional) and one wrong mistake or being out in the open for too long will cost them dearly. Then again this is anime where reality flies out the window. But for just pure military acumen and grounded in Military tactics.. Im going with Balalaika.... Her men would quickly dispose of the others and Balalaika would break that white haired Mary Sue like a toothpick.... (plus youre talking about a woman who served in the Russian Special forces..... you don't want to screw around with Spetsnaz) Yet again..... Mary Sues can be piled on with practically anything and make them Overpowered.... KoKo is such an individual. Pit this Mary Sue against another Mary Sue or Gary Stu and it becomes boring....... Hard-ass war veteran versus skilled businesswoman/politician. I love them both. But Koko will win because she have better arsenal of equipment and will never play fair.
As much as I love both series Balalaika would eat Koko alive, as ruthless as Koko is she not really that dangerous on her own, the only person who’s beaten Balalaika 1 on 1 is Chang who basically Revy on steroids, now squads, head to head I think Balalaika still takes it but not as easily, because although Koko has men from the premier armed forces around the world Balalaika has an entire Regiment of Spentsnaz soldiers who are borderline fanatically loyal to her, and because they still have special forces training like Kokos squad i think Jormungand would get overwhelmed by sheer numbers of soldiers with a similar level of training

1v1 isn’t as unfair as you may think koko has a desert eagle which can do immense damage and also means she can handle it which means she’s good at controlling recoil. I do think in that case balalaika would win because she’s a veteran. But koko is a good shot the time where she missed was a car chase theirs no way anyone is accurate in a car chase with a pistol it’s not technically impossible but trust me no one is going to be consistently accurate in a car chase. Koko definitely can fight and has a chance but balalaika would win in most cases in a 1v1
I think he forgot that koko is connected with people ( political and in business or even Mafia stuff) that means she has much more access to technology and general influenc. And by the way she's an armors dealer... When I first saw the title, I instantly gave Balalaika the win (same as most people) simply due to all the experience she and her men have obtained from war/combat.
-1v1, Bala wins hands down. She just too experienced and far more capable than Koko in a fight or on a battlefield; she literally has the scars to prove it. Koko, in a sense, is far too sheltered as she comes from money, and while she can very well handle a gun despite herself, she still falls short compared to Bala, or even someone like her (Revy, Roberta, Eda, take your pick). So yeah...
-Now, give them their squads with same # of men and throw them into battle, and Bala's team would still win. For this I'd have to say "no school like old school", and reason why is, as you've stated and as is well-known, they're all experienced, war-hardened veterans who can dominate virtually any terrain and eviscerate their targets. They may not rely on tech as much as Koko's team would, but they know how to make do without it, and that I believe is what give them the win.
-For the final scenario, however, I agree with your conclusion and do believe sufficient prep time would be the deciding factor. With ample prep time comes amassing all the resources at your disposal, and it's shown that Koko has that shit on lock. Yes Bala and her men have their combat experience, weapons training and elite marksmanship, but being stuck in the small scope of a city like Roanapur heavily limits their options. Tanks are too big and “modern” technology might be too much of a culture shock to them that they’d rather go without it as they feel they couldn’t keep up. Koko being more into sophisticated and advanced technology gives her side that considerable edge, as she combines both military tactics and arms dealing with expert use of tech to dominate anyone in ways they couldn’t imagine, let alone manage to do themselves.
In short, yes Balalaika might come out on top when fighting with what’s available to her and relying on her own skills as a war veteran, but that would only work in certain conditions (i.e. the first 2); on the other hand, Koko would definitely win when given just enough time to plan and outmaneuver and eventually overwhelm her opponent with the seemingly endless resources she has (money, weapons, connections, tech), to the point that she wouldn’t even need to set foot in a warzone to do it. THAT’S BADASS.

Koko has experience too in my opinion at least and her team is unbelievably skilled only unable to deal with seal team six balalaika wasn’t able to handle the twins in direct combat who for all their skills were just two kids. And yes she did eventually win. But she had to split them up. Meanwhile I don’t think that’s possible with Koko’s team I think they are just stronger overall valmet for example is basically Roberta in terms of strength
ProfessorViral koko I think would win both because she has access to more serious weapons like she was able to get multiple rockets into space and get access to SAMS also if you take the song “time to attack” into account she has more guns than the navy though I think that’s an exaggeration. But even when she had soldiers betray her convoy she annihilated them. She essentially defeated the world by the end of jormungand (I’m exaggerating but she made airplanes no longer a thing) I just think given the scale of black lagoon vs jormungand koko wins but balalaika has a chance at least I’d say a 30% chance maybe 40% I think koko has the edge
I think you make the mistake of Balilika's men not being willing to stay at her side regardless of Hotel Moscow's orders. Those men fought and bled with her in war, and all returned to the same hell she did. Those men would stay by her side regardless of anyone's orders or rank. No order from Hotel Moscow or Jorgunmund could get those men to leave their commander.
I should have specified, I said that one with the intension that they would deal with her with men from elsewhere in the organization. There's for sure nothing that could shift her men's opinion of her

A fight between these two to me feels like a fight between Punisher and Batman; the Hotel Moscow crew has the experience and time under their belt to always be ready to go whereas it seems just like Batman, Koko and her crew require prep time for every encounter. I can see Koko winning a fight (where both parties are given little to no prep time) due to the weapons in her arsenal but it would still be a narrow victory.
I haven't seen much comic related stuff to say, but it seems like a fair comparison. Koko can basically money her way out of a situation. It's fair to say she may come out on top in some of the battles under the 2nd scenario, if she's able to predict their movements, adjust, and apply some pressure from her arsenal. I would definitely agree that it would be close though, the only two of her's I'm giving a good survival rate to are Jonah and Valmet

@@mattmalone9245 The thing is Jonah after teaming up with Kasper who is arguably way more violent then his sister. Came back even deadlier then before. So much so that Caquita was sad to seem him go and said that she would rather lose one of her other teammates then Jonah because he was so strong. This is coming from a women who could match Valmet in hand to hand combat.
This is about what I thought too given the premise, but an important note is that Koko has been taken off-guard plenty of times and if it had been Hotel Moscow putting the Squad on their back foot instead of incompetent french goofballs or pantiless gunslingers, that would've been game over. If Balalaika comes for Koko it's entirely out of the black.
If they caught her in those earlier moments, for sure they would have won. Koko would only survive now by the graces of her endless spoils

The real issue is that Balalaika, even if fast forwarded in time, is still just a relic of the 80's. Much like a T-72 tank, she doesn't stand much of a chance against 2010 technology and tactics. Man vs man, her and her people come out on top, but Jormungand alone is insurmountable in its power for them. Even if they went for full guerilla tactics living in the sewers Punisher style, Jormungand would make it impossible to actually get close to Koko.
If it's just between Koko and Balalaika and their chosen squads in a closed deathmatch with no outside help I don't see Koko's side winning, but the sheer scope and access of her resources make this comparison unfair. You'd need all of Roanapur's heaviest hitters and their best people to make a dent against everything Koko has at her disposal.
That's very true, with Koko at her fullest capacity, anyone against her is pretty much unfair. That's why I included the first two scenarios, to emphasize that Balalaika is excellent, but loses simply to the result of billions of dollars
Balalaika would've most likely encountered Floyd Hekmatyar (Koko's father) along with Lehm and Chiquita. That would make for an interesting match up if we knew more about him.
On paper, Balalaika wins no doubt however...If they did reach an encounter, Koko has already won, it's shown time and time again that she plans everything far ahead of time, there would already be multiple militias and armies on the way to confront Balalaika's team. It's the sheer fact that Koko is an information god with Jormangund at her hands.

And there's another factor I feel plays against Balalaika. She, like all of Roanapur is the living dead as they say. Stuck in a particular mindset. She can adapt, to a degree but she's not *as* adaptable as Koko's squad is. Her team are similarly not as adaptable. Every problem is a nail and violence is the hammer for them. They only choose in a few instances to employ things in a less extreme way. Koko meanwhile has it seems plans within plans, and contingencies for various situations. Look at the way she manipulated the weapons deal in favor of HCLI when dealing with the Russian woman, we keep thinking " has she met her match there" and fuck no, she out played her as well with information warfare. She can be surgical, or employ ultraviolence depending on what's called for, Balalaika only has the few responses.
As a complete military novice, I honestly gave Balalaika the benefit of the doubt, and believed that they would be adaptable and so on. I can see the argument that they're more set in their ways, as they essentially respond to most things with excessive force, but I don't think I could really make the judgement myself. But, I guess since Koko blows everyone out of the water, it doesn't change much

Okay, so here's my two cents, bear in mind, Ive only seen Black Lagoon.
Koko's intelligence based tactics, Balalaika has the upper hand, for two reasons. The first, is because of the soviet archives being practically impossible to crack. Even Koko wouldnt be able to gain a background on Balalaika.
The second reason, is that Balalaika's mentality, is simply: "Kill, Destroy, Win," Which leaves Koko practically useless in predicting Hotel Moscow's movements.
Now Koko does posess the digital and firepower advantage, sure, but here's the thing. Hotel Moscow has never, and likely will never, utilise equipment that could possibly be hacked or detected, simply due to the outdated USSR tech they favor.
Koko's anime protagonists of her squad are also pretty much just each the twins from the vampire arc in Black Lagoon... And we all know how that went.
Finally, we've never seen Balalaika, nor Hotel Moscow, engage an enemy where they have taken any form of serious casualties. Thus, we have never seen them engage an enemy with their fangs out.

It just makes me happy that these two do actually exist in the same universe and since a young Koko has sold weapons to Dutch before it’s more than likely that Koko(or her brother at least) have sold weapons to Balilika.
how did i just find this video now? These are my favourite characters of my favourite animes, nice job on the video
however theres some points i disagree on, for example balalaika beeing limited to 8 soldiers, and yes that would be fair if they weren't fighting velmet and the war child, their agility is vast superior than the hotel moscow soldiers and therefore the 2x8 (or 2x9 if balalaika was included) would be a simple win for valmet, the soldiers have experience in war, but so do valmet and the war child, and their agility is on equal foot as balalaika if not superior, meaning that in a 2v1 against balalaika would not end well for her, now onto thinking about the equipment superiority i think that the situation of koko is way better than what was said in the video, she could end the fight with one MQ-9 reaper equiped with hellfires, and even if drones weren't in the combat, koko has acess to mig 29 planes and mi 24 hind helicopters, the hind could be easily killed with something like a stinger anti air missile which balalaika knows because thats what happend in the soviet afghan war, but an aircraft like the mig 29 would take actual SAMs to be shot down, and furthermore talking about the B52 strategic bombers the only way they would be taken down is either with a SAM or with another aircraft.
Not to mention aswell that both SAMs and planes could be hacker by jormungand, since SAMs usually use a radar to guide the missile and the plane depends on its instruments to keep flying, those beeing radar and the values given by the plane, like speed and altitude, thinking this way the only possible win for balalaika would be a long range combat with koko being unable to use her tools, koko's squad has 2 good snipers, hotel moscow has 2 confirmed snipers and balalaika herself giving hotel moscow an advantage

He forgot to input the fact that Hotel Moscow can literally pop up ANYWHERE in the word without any warning. This has been implied multiple times in Black Lagoon. She can use her drones, but she probably can't stop the squad knocking on her door already.
With full power Jormungand, they wouldn't even be able to get close to her door. She would have constant surveillance on any threats. Hotel Moscow is good, but the god of information is the best at what she does
Koko does fight but only when it’s advantageous normally she’s leading and cordnating as the individual soldiers need to focus on fighting and can’t focus on leading. The few times koko herself fights it’s because for whatever reason it’s advantageous to. But usually she’s better as a leader but she absolutely can fight and she carries a desert eagle and is great with guns. Koko on her own is a deadly combatant but with her team and connections she’s boarderlije unstoppable
bro im a fan of both and tbh, I can agree with Koto winning, But i feel like if She didnt have Jormungand or any tech as Balalaika doesn't, I think Balalaika would win, But Koto would win cause of her wealth and tech over all but...Just combat ill give it to Balalaika. They each have advantages that help, but with Jormungand Koko's advantages are complete blowouts against almost anyone. For actual combat though, Balalaika for sure takes things

If balalaike knew what she would be fighting then id say the win goes to her because if i were balalaika, and knew that my opponent would be exponentially stronger the longer time flies, i would make the opponent (Koko in this case) extremly nervous and paranoid, play some psychological warfare but also strike as soon as possible. Koko underestimating and miscalculating is the key for balalaika
But having a Jormungand on your side is quite something and could potentially pit the world against you so...balalaika cant allow herself more than a couple of days at best from my pov
in this case we have 2 extremlly skilled leaders and in the end it would depend on their strategy and quick answers
When it comes to the trustworthyness of the men, it would be those of balalaika (not comparing the squads but both sides with all of what they have). Even though Koko has a loyal fireteam and some scientists, she would need to buy an army...but not balalaika
When it comes to the battlefield advantages i would say its tipped towards kokos favor because of her technology and beeing able to have air support if she demands it (but even that needed time as stated in the video)
Considering that balalaika has an army that is kinda also a mafia, her HQ would probabaly either an underground military base off the official maps or a place with urban enviroment but given that she may have more control over a military base, id say that she would rather do that if she wouldnt have the opportunity to strike first
Kokos methods take time but are ultimately her key to victory while balalaika could quickly bring the fight to her if she so desires and a lot of pressure while she does and seemingly beeing able to move the enemy to here she wants in a battle scenario
So if we would need a short version:
- Koko is the type of player in a real time strat game that knows hats OP in the mid to end game
- Balalaika knows what is OP in the early to mid game and would rush the sht out of Koko, given the fact that her methods are more in favor for that type of gameplay in that case
Honestly I don't agree I believe Balalaika's ability to be crafty, constantly willing to shift the goal post, and shrewd experience pool in both the military and the underworld would make it hard for even a godly information broker to definitively nail down kill a dozen of her people, cripple her efforts to push huge, but this is all throwing the favor zone directly into the broker's zone. The fight effectively becomes less than one group vs another more so 'how many groups would it take to undermine Hotel Moscow'. Especially since the way the last twin died was essentially Bala pulling the rug out of the feet at the very end of the trip something she may be able to do here too. She, nor Moscow didn't need to be there just one person.
My girl Koko is not actually an inept fighter. By herself she can still operate, she just doesn't anymore, but she used to. I don't think toe to toe a fight between Koko and Bala would be as clean a sweep as you might imagine, though Bala would probably still win. On the flipside, you don't need to reduce Hotel Moscow's numbers. Koko and HCLI would absolutely destroy them. Hotel Moscow stands zero chance against what is essentially a deity. Even with her small squad Koko would walk all over Hotel Moscow. Jormungand is completely capable of predicting every detail about Balalaika and Hotel Moscow with ease months in advance. You just can't fight that. Bookman isn't joking when he calls Koko a "goddess of information".
Hotel Moscow buys the arms it needs from the Rip-Off Church. But where does the Rip-Off Church get it's wares? HCLI has been shown to shut down fellow LARGE SCALE arms dealers. I'm quite sure they can shut down a relatively small scale operation like the Rip-Off Church, and every other arms dealer in Roannapur

That highly train unit is Seal team 9, one of the best by today's standard. Ex soviet infantries won't know what hit them when they face the team-9.
The problem in this match-up is you simply put Balalaika in the Digital era, but the result will be reversed if you put Koko's team in Balalaika's Era. If it's information war is the thing your gonna based on. Balalaika would probably sniff out Koko and how cunning she was. There is a reason why Koko has a lot of assassination attempts, to begin with. She is not completely hidden.

There's one point of contention here. The technology gap is merely a matter if time. That is to say they exist in different times. Balalaika exists in the '80-90s, Koko in the '00-'10s. For it to be a fair fight you'd have to bring one of them back or the other forward.
If you bring Balalaika forward in time, she loses. None of the new technology available to her presents an advantage in fact presents a disadvantage of she were to even use them. On the other hand if we brought Koko backwards and remove high end drones and digital communication, hands down no contest, it's a Balalaika win regardless of the preplanning. Even if we keep Jormungand in play the technology gap on the ground heavily diminishes or delays what effect it can have, as much of it is still analogue. Where digital technology is available it would almost certainly still be being used in tandem with analogue counterparts for verification due to lack of trust or design limitations. This means disinformation can be can be detected on most cases just through basic routine.

Although I do believe Koko would be able to beat Balalaika given a plan and information of Balalaika's outfit I feel restricting her from the original minimum of 21 to 8 is giving a handy cap to Koko. With information of how Balalaika operates Koko should be able to draw her out and into a situation where large numbers and brute force wouldn't help. Like in a boarding action at sea, where both sides have cargo vessels and the use of drones and false orders to passing navies would put Balalaika in an attritional fight where her resources would do her very little, even if you counted both the Rip-off Church, and the Lagoon Company as a part of her assets.

I understand your logic and agree on everything besides one point you say Coco would never find herself in a situation where she is without her ability to plan ahead. But I disagree even if she is aware there is going to be combat at some point in the future and her team is ready for it she still can’t use a lot of her advantages because calling in airstrikes or military unit ultimately take time. Like just because I know I’m going to be attacked today does it mean I can just start randomly carpet bombing places and although she technically has the ability to just be randomly carpet bombing places it goes against her general style.I don’t think she would survive long enough from the time the engagement started to be able to actually utilize either of them
Without having finished the video, id put my money on baliliaika simply due to her high level of first hand combat experience, discipline, and resouecefulness. She doesnt have as much money as koko im assuming but chances are shed likely already know about koko and could easily come up with a plan to kil her before koko could
I bet on Koko while Balalaika is definitely no pushover and definitely a threat. She doesn't have the power Koko has when it comes to money and dropping missiles on folks. I wouldn't be surprised if Koko had a couple of nukes around. I've seen Balalaika bomb some places and hire people to kill some of her enemies I never seen her had this kind of power like Koko. One thing Balalaika does have is experience but Koko is highly intelligent and has more resources she can utilize. So definitely think Koko got the win.

We need to make an assumption to get a better answer. We need to assume if they are both told at the same time they need to kill each other. I doubt koko would know much of balalaika but i belive she would alrwady know of kokos existence and abilities. If we assume they had time to plan for a long time i agree koko wins. If bal strikes first and quickly im pretty sure she would win. I think hotel mosco is also a big factor. Is there anything koko could say or do to make them betray bel? If not then a first strike kill from bel is almost guaranteed. We saw how her team was in chaos when 3 people stormed her apartment unannounced

Balalaika vs Koko Hekmatyar
If it’s the two women in a 1v. 1 fight the Balalaika would win since she’s a highly skilled and trained fighter.
If it’s their organizations fighting each other then I think Koko would win due to her team having superior firepower, resources, training and technology. Remember, Black Lagoon takes place in the 1990s while Jormungand takes place today. Koko would have a 20+ year technological advantage over Hotel Moscow.
Balalaika and Koko both know how to attract devoted people so would be an interesting fight.
Also would be nice to see the comparison of Black Cat aka Train Heartnet from Back Cat and The Black Reaper aka Hei from Darker Than Black.

It makes no sense to make this comparison, unless you were talking about a one on one battle with the squad. In my opinion, a soldier like Jonah would be comparable to the romanian twins(slayed with balaika unarmed). Balaliaka's squad is one that has the power to eliminate an entire squad of US Marines (That koko had to evade by hacking GPS). Balalaika herself is an experienced fighter from her youth (koko has experience only leading from her youth). But realistically, Koko has enough dough to call a fleet of battleships so my first point stands

Like you said, Koko’s squad can’t hold a candle to veteran soldiers and they didn’t really beat Night Nine, more so outmaneuvered them. In a planned confrontation, Koko would win but it will probably cost her most of, if not all of her squad and more. Any enemy she throws Balalaika’s way will more than likely get wiped out unless it’s the U.S Military and it’ll take more than Drones and Bombers to kill Balalaika. They both plan ahead, but Balalaika is better in this aspect. If she knows what Koko is capable of, she can just put her in a position where she can’t access or fully utilize Jormungand. Also, Hotel Moscow is known to have connections with agencies like the KGB so it won’t be hard for her to acquire anti-air weaponry.
i think realistically, they'd become friends and do business together... albeit the kind of friends who have sniper teams standing by every second they are together lol! but Balalaika has a soft spot for interesting quirky people like Koko, not to mention Koko's incredible charisma and intelligence, and the kinds of wares Koko has access to.
and Koko i think would respect Balalaika's position and power, the little slice of the world this hardened spetsnatz officer carved out for herself instead of allowing all she sacrificed be for nothing. also, Koko has no issues associating with murderers, criminals, and gangsters as long as they don't disrespect her and i doubt Balalaika would have any disrespect for Koko and her Crew. especially since when things get serious, even without being a trained soldier herself, Koko becomes colder than ice with a smile etched onto her face, and doesnt flinch even when people die right in front of her...
these are two women who would absolutely meet together for tea and to talk business, laughing at each other's war stories, before stopping for five minutes to listen to the sounds of both their squads executing some hitmen who were trying to kill them both. Koko would watch and sip her tea as Balalaika twists a knife in the only hitman left alive to learn who ordered the hit, before slitting the man's throat. and then Koko would most likely offer Balalaika a clean handkerchief to wipe off the blood with before they both resume their chatting like nothing happened
i think these two Animes/Manga's would make for a great mash-up though for all their characters lol! like HCLI visiting Roanapur for a massive arms deal with multiple crime families there
i think Revy and Valmet would likely get into a brawl over some crass thing Revy says about Koko. Tojo and Rock would watch the brawl while chatting about Japan. I agree that with the final all out battle koko would win she just has too many resources. She could probably take on hundreds of hotel Moscow’s soldiers with it that being said balalaika is still insanely strong and theirs a reason no one screws with her too much in the show. In the power level of black lagoon balalaika is queen and everyone else is mostly unable to stop her but if koko was in black lagoon (which is my headcanon) koko would be queen she has the best of everything she needs. However that being said it’s correct that some of her team would be weaker than some of hotel Moscow’s soldiers as for instance the former mafia guy pretty much joined because koko thought he was a good guy which I think he is

I'm going to give it to Balalika simply cause of one reason special forces member train like there going against another special forces team all the time meaning information blackouts and extremely tough conditions. The problem with Kokos squad is that they are constantly lucky with the the people they fight making so many rookie mistakes like how night nine legit only had the drone for info on enemy locations which is bullshit. They would have immediately had a map and cordon off the escape route at the border They wouldn't have immediately engaged. Before she escaped. Plus no military sends a single squad of soldiers on a mission like that it would have been a 3:1 situation that's how it's always has been. Battles were never suppose to be fair once those guys are sent. Kokos enemies are always making the most simple mistakes that wouldn't happen in reality especially with how much they train. Her luck and Mary sue nature is just breakneck goofy. I do argee though that in a squad to squad battle no support total black out which would be the norm for elite soldiers Balalika would win. Though with support which depending on terrain Koko I could win. In an Urban environment koko would still lose. In an open desert or snowy terrian or jungle area then Koko would win but even that's still cutting close.
Idk, I think that balalika would be able to come out on top If they knew who they were up against because balalika was basically toying with Yukio and she is around the same age as koko it seems, you don't need to have superior technology to defeat a force with superior technology. It may be possible that balalika has some well trained fighter pilots but they just pocus on her ground capabilities because honestly most of the missions did not require air assets and the ones that did it wasn't very large scale but I be she as a commander could acquire those assets if the situation called for it. It is also the case that even with all the intel in the world something can go wrong or happen unexpected that you had no way of knowing about and that's called the unpredictable element of chaos in battle and Balalika excels at chaotic situations.
Let's not forget that Koko is a crack shot in her own right, as shown in Jormungand Perfect Order. When standardizing the crew's gear, Koko is invited to "fire some rounds". The resulting shots has Lutz (one of the team's snipers) complaining about possible punishment if they aren't able to match her shots.
If I had to think of any man on earth capable of going toe to toe with either of these two frightening women it would have to be Big Boss from metal gear solid with his MSF or diamond dogs units he could probably take em on.
As an avid MGS fan, I would love to see Balalaika take on Big Boss, and Koko take on a Metal Gear

Comparing between two is like mafia vs spy/intelligence agency. HCLI has intel gathering capabilities that makes the team aware who are the dangerous individuals in the area they visit. There is no way mafia boss can sneak attack her.
Comparing the team, mafias are ex VDV ( elites in soviet army ), it is also true for Koko's team most of them are ex special forces, spies, CTU and deltas. Except Jonah, Mao & Ugo they all are best in their fields. There is no way battle hardened VDV can match them in combat.
And Balalaika grabbing Koko is slim because jonah or most likely valmet will always around her.
If hotel moscow and koko fight, Hotel Moscow will serve Koko since gaining them will help alot for her business. If Balalaika manage to kill off one of the member then shen can dig underground bomb shelter for B-52 visits.

Honestly, 1v1 I just want to slightly disagree. Koko could probably come up with a deal that was mutually beneficial/defuse the situation. She has talked her way out of situations before. I mean in one episode she managed to trick a general that wanted a new RADAR array, and get a group of bloodthirsty soldiers to let her past the border against their orders with zero misinformation and just talk. That being said that's still only a tie so I'd give it to Balalaik.
It could be an epic battle but honestly, imagine them being friends or partner could be way more epic 😀and I love both the characters I can't choose between them
I haven't watched either, but, from what I know, I think the Captain takes it. If you give both access to meta elements, I think that the former Soviet's preference for low-tech would play a crucial role in keeping her and her men hidden. Not to mention that, as you said, there are many looking to kill Koko anyway, so I'm sure Balalaika could get a contact, locate her, and from there, use word of mouth, landline phones, and old radios to communicate. As for bombers, etc. good luck trying to justify bombing an entire city just to get a group of former Soviet soldiers. It could even cause nuclear war. Finally, I just hate how Koko sounds like every Mary-Sue ever, just without the "being as strong as men" part. Honestly just makes me want to watch her die in pathetic fashion like that scene with the twins.
I don't think the advantage in material and technology would be definitive, In the Soviet-Afghan war the Soviets held a massive advantage and still lost. I have no doubt Balalaika would be just as adaptable against such overwhelming odds.

I’m fan of Koko. Hate to admit it but if they only fight with the mens they have, Balalaika would win. Balalaika has an company level of special forces, WW3 pre-trained soldier. Koko has 9 elite, loyal guardian. However, if they both given time prepared and go all out, Koko’s arsenal would simply bring hell to Balalaika. I would say that is not going to happen though, because there is no reason to be.

Since I was going off of Koko at the end of the anime, I didn't include R simply because he was gone before that point, but I could have given him a shout for sure, my bad there! Also, I haven't seen that one as of yet, but I try not to rule anything out!

Koko is Cipher in the sense of manipulation and information control, not to mention reach of influence. Meanwhile Balalakia is more like The Boss in the sense of experience and driving loyalty from the soldiers that were "thrown away" after war is over. She never quite grew as grand a following as the boss, which is here weakness. Her army is small and just like The Boss she would probably be defeated by Cipher's (Koko in this semse) ability to manipulate on a world stage level.

the 2nd and 3rd characters sounds like a Mary Sues to be honest. if youre talking about reality, Balalaika is better. Also one does not know when an ambush will happen (I know this is anime and its fictional) and one wrong mistake or being out in the open for too long will cost them dearly.
Then again this is anime where reality flies out the window. But for just pure military acumen and grounded in Military tactics.. Im going with Balalaika.... Her men would quickly dispose of the others and Balalaika would break that white haired Mary Sue like a toothpick.... 1v1 isn’t as unfair as you may think koko has a desert eagle which can do immense damage and also means she can handle it which means she’s good at controlling recoil. I do think in that case balalaika would win because she’s a veteran. But koko is a good shot the time where she missed was a car chase theirs no way anyone is accurate in a car chase with a pistol it’s not technically impossible but trust me no one is going to be consistently accurate in a car chase. Koko definitely can fight and has a chance but balalaika would win in most cases in a 1v1
