Y'all did Lily Rose dirty with that background for almost 30 minutes 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ikr???
🤣
She did herself dirty for thinking she should get into the family business. 😒
Shes brilliant what are you talking about @starbrite526
You guys are the only ones who share my disappointment with the movie! Not bad, but not good. I’ve been recommending the ‘79 version to everyone I see.
Add me to the list of disappointed and I am going to watch the 79 version since they recommend it
Me also
Especially after his string of excellent films! Sad
You two are especially funny today. Gives his wife away like he booked an appointment on rover hahahaha
I was thinking the same thing! "A ho in a different area code"! Oh my gosh, I just laughed so loud!
@@WisconsinStayceehahaha
Isaac Newton crawling back into his mother's womb made me laugh out loud in the theater. Great review btw.
Glad I wasn’t the only one who laughed at that
Honestly it had so many funny lines!
dafoe got some of the best lines in the film. i was surprised my theatre was so quiet 😂
wait what happened ? I don’t remember this scene at all. I left the theater once and for not long.
@@cellardoor4199 it was a line the totally-not- van Helsing said
I think this movie shows how our cultural backgrounds impact the movie's perception. I come from Eastern Europe (Ukraine) and I absolutely loved the Orlok's look and the parts in Romania. The folkore behind vampires (upyri in my country) is that they look kind of like deceased relatives but they have this insatiable thirst for something (blood, alcohol, sex...) It's kind of a cautinary tale. It seems to be reflected in Ellen's the question about whether evil comes from outside or within. Yes, it comes from within if one cultivates some kind of desire to absolute that ends up consuming them and everything around. I liked the shadows part - I was quite weiry of them when returning home at night. But I agree with you that the story is quite simple and there was no need for Bill to play the Orlok (I assume they were going for a "star" cast).
i loved orlok’s look for that exact reason. i don’t feel it necessary for a vampire to appear as some “creature”, so to speak. the vampire is literally an undead corpse. so the appearance of a relatively recognizable looking man that’s been dead for centuries feels right. love that there is no reveal until the end. the vampire exists in darkness, in the shadows. it’s all the more haunting.
lmao, we need 50 shades of nosferatu
I also think Lily depp is miscast, the previous women who played mina/ellen role are women who are very womanly, voluptous, engaging and sexual, dnt get me wrong she looks good in that era and the costumes/clothing for the story being told. Depp seems lost, frail and like a 12 yr old girl.
@@cassandrayang5418you’re a weirdo. She does not seem like a 12 year old girl. Lily Rose is a grown woman & she’s very alluring and has been. I think yall are just old or miserable .
“B&$!ch you have three nights to get it together”🤣🤣
💀
😂😂😂
Hmm. No need for misogyny if a woman continues to be ideal object of desire for men. Just saying.
For someone that hasn’t seen any of the other versions, I thought this one was excellent. Creepy and well shot. Loved the acting. Thanks for the review!
That's because you have TASTE.
NOSFERATU 1922 is a MUST see....a Truly iconic movie of cinema....one of the greats
Yes not sure the guy in black POV. See it again boss. Your seen the movie through the lens of a negative Nelly. The reason he is in the dark is so we get the creepiness under your skin feeling on what he is and how he looks. I had to stop watching after a few minutes. I could of done a better job. The movie is awesome. The pictures, the acting, backdrop. C'mon man
OK now go watch the other versions.
You are so right about the Bill Skarsgard.
How do we even know it was him?
Happy December!
Thank you for your awesome content.
Thank you!
@@fishjellyfilmreviews What do Nosferatu's teeth look like in this film? Did you like the teeth? I don't remember hearing you mention that detail. Teeth are important in a vampire movie.
"1838 Germany. Speaking English in Germany, don't know why but OK."
"So Nicholas Hoult is a solicitor and his boss tells him 'gurrl, there is this old man in Transylvania'"
"So poor Nicholas Hoult goes out there...and he's warned by the Village People" the lost opportunity of throwing up the "Cruisin'" album cover right there...
I wish Eggers had used some of this dialogue in his movie LOL
Significant date
Orlok weird breathing drove me crazy.
All the breathing drove me crazy. Misophonia trigger warning!!
Isabelle Adjani is such a special actress. She's absolutely gorgeous and chooses some of the most problematic characters. Love her.
“Speaking English in Germany.” 🤣 reminds me of that Valkyrie movie with Tom Cruise.
Lots of Europeans speak English extremely clearly.
Tom Cruise is actually in this movie. He ziplines in through a hole in the roof. Spoiler alert.
lol reminds me of this TV I watched recently that had Portuguese people speaking English while Japanese people speaking Japanese 🤣 they just have to always include English when it's not necessary or wanted 😅
At least in Valkyrie they start in German, then they zoom into the mouth, switch to English and then zoom out, implying they are speaking German, but we are now hearing it in English. They don't even try that with this.
That thumbnail 😂
I legit laughed out loud when I saw it. 😄
That's how u orgasm in mars
Lol 😅
Getting Vampired
They are so wrong for that! hahahahaha....
I felt like it didn’t go hard enough. Dracula is violent, romantic, dark and ominous. This was the moment to bring the drama and it just didn’t do it for me. I agree with you both here.
This is the first.
Review that i've heard that didn't thoroughly enjoy this film.
I have personally found it to be VERY rare that these two both enjoy a film.
@@colinprice7964🤣 that’s exactly how I feel about these dudes! It’s rare I see them like a film!
It's overrated. All style, no substance.
@@primalplasma I know there are some who feel that way and the opinion, while I don't share it, is valid. But at the same time, these guys don't seem to like much of anything from what I have seen the last few months on their page. I'll check them out the next time I want to see someone dump on a movie cause here, it's pretty dependable.
@@colinprice7964yeah what’s a film that they’ve reviewed that they’ve really liked?
1922 Nosferatu was a terrifying, soulless "thing" with a mask-like face. Klaus Kinski gave Nosferatu emotions, passion, his whole expression oozing pain and yearning.
So what did Eggers add to the story?
A moustache.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Looked like the villain of the sonic movie jumped screens 😂
Also boredom
You're oblivious to the fact that the moustache would have been era-appropriate, making the creature far more realistic as an undead human nobleman and you also missed the fact that the protagonist was entirely changed from Thomas to Ellen giving the film a great idea more to say about the mysoginy that was rife at the time, but hey. We can't all be smart. 😉
@@ariescustom in the early 19th century, the male members of the Junker class, aristocratic families of the Austro-Hungarian empire and in Transylvania did not all have moustaches. So, if this film was making an attempt to be historically correct, that is irrelevant. In the first two Nosferatu films, count Orloff had alopecia totalis, with the exception of eyebrows. Also, it was a joke inferring that Eggers brought nothing of value. They are entitled to their opinion. Nobody is going to read your comment and think you’re super smart. It just seems like you aren’t aware of your autism.
I have to disagree. This movie was amazing!
It was beautifully shot and the acting was amazing. The story was slow and boring though. Leading up to an underwhelming ending. SUCKED.
@@SwEtchinmusic It's literally exactly the same story, you know...the story of Nosferatu, with a minor tweak making Ellen the protagonist. What were you expecting? Nosferatu in space? 🤣
@ariescustom did you just Crack yourself up?
@@SwEtchinmusic No, you did. 😉
@@ariescustom this back and forth is more entertaining than nosferatu. SUCKED.
You two are just delightful, for real. I really wish I could just go to movies with you and listen to you go off about them afterward. You're like a cooler version of Statler and Waldorf in the balcony. I am here for it. "A ho in a different area code" ... I laughed out loud at that one. Now I have to see this movie!
25 days in advance!? diabolical *thunder crack*
YES. 😮
😅😮❤
Orlok doesn’t become infatuated with Ellen after Thomas arrives. He had encountered her years before and had Thomas’s boss specifically send him to get him out of the way.
It was honestly a huge part of the film and a big reveal at the end. It’s surprising to hear you not recognize that.
Facts she said this at the beginning, she said they beeeeen had encounters, it just got worse and worse.
4:28
Then they go on about it, for some time.
I guess you missed it
“With those dead eyes” lmao I love you guys.
Mustache sounds close to Book Dracula
Yea, the original novel (yet no other incarnations of Dracula) describes him as having a mustache. And I presume that’s based on the famous image of Vlad The Impaler, who himself was a major influence on Dracula.
This review is so funny and so accurate. "B*tch you have 3 nights to get it together" -- Joseph as Nosferatu (LOL) I think the majority of critics have been glamoured by the amazing craft on display. The film felt like 4 hours long.
The 3 night ultimatum totally defeats the purpose of Ellen submitting to Nosferatu of her own free will. It's one of many odd choices this film makes.
I loved the bones of this film, but like Nick said, they really needed to iron out some things to tell a more concise story.
@@politefan8141I agree, if the point is that she needs to willingly sacrifice herself why is he coercing her?😂
25:50 The last thing I expected to find in a Nosferatu review was a Clarence Carter “Strokin’” reference, that killed me. Kudos boys, great review as always
That was on my fav cruise’ songs
I appreciate the honesty of your review, I saw Nosferatu yesterday and came away quite disappointed. As someone who enjoys film criticism and analysis, I often watch reviews from a wide range of critics, and it was striking how overwhelmingly positive the reactions were to this movie. Everyone seemed to praise it as a masterpiece, but I found it rather boring, and in some moments, even cringeworthy. The film leans heavily on atmosphere but offers little to no nuance in its retelling of the story. Overall, I thought it felt like a bit of a mess.
Visually, the film is undeniably stunning. The cinematography and design are impressive, but I felt the movie missed an opportunity to shine in the makeup and special effects department. The design of Count Orlok, which should have been a centerpiece, was surprisingly underwhelming. In the end, this movie felt more like style over substance-a beautiful shell that didn’t deliver in terms of storytelling or depth.
11:30 I was hoping you were going to mention Orlocks legs and when you said he skipped leg days I lol'd.
5:55 It was Transylvania, you could read it upside down on the papers at the table. However, Bohemia (Chechia) and Transylvania (Romania) is quite far apart.
In the movie they say “east of Bohemia”
@ As I recalled it as well. Transylvania is far to the south-east of Bohemia.
So much missed opportunity with this movie. They could've made it so much more perverted and disturbing. I was disappointed too
Y'all ain't right for using that background because I couldn't get through this review without obnoxiously laughing at it 😭I'm going to see it and thank you for talking about the 1979 version because I'm long overdue for a rewatch.
I was able to go to an early screening of the film and Lily Rose did a Q&A after the film. What surprised me was that she spoke about the intention being for her to have more agency as a female character in the film. Didn’t see that…I also agree with your critique of Nosferatu’s look. How is the undead able to grow a mustache??? It was beautifully shot and I’ve never seen the pervious films so I enjoyed the watch, apart from the ending.
Dracula is a moustached monster in the original novel.
More agency? If you actively choose the abusive rapist 400-year-old parasitic vampire over a loving husband because you're too horny to wait until he comes home from a job he chose so he can provide for you both, you're not emotionally mature enough to have agency. I don't care what gender you are.
8:28 he knew that he was her husband and he wanted to have her totally. You can say orloc was jealous and wanted her all to himself.
I totally agree with this take, and considering that nosferatu is a demonic sort of creature I’m wondering if the reason he had Thomas sign the contract and Ellen promise herself to him was because nosferatu himself couldn’t break apart a Christian marriage, it almost felt like he needed the both of them to give permission so he could have Ellen
"...telepathic cyber sex!" LOL
come for the movie reviews, stay for the relationship....
Girl, Gary Oldman as Dracula is so hot! A perfect example of sex appeal even if you're not Henry Cavill
Agree☺️🙏🤣
He exudes sexuality and desire effortlessly. There could have been 0 sex scenes in that movie and it would still be sexy. TBH, I find the use of sex scenes to show sexuality to be uncreative and boring, especially if that's the main avenue for showing it.
Except the hair. OMG it was awful, although Gary was good.
Let’s goooo I’m so glad I randomly hopped on UA-cam
I was completely done when you referred to the Demeter ship as the Damita Jo... like what in the hell??!! 😂😂😂 Janet Jasckson did not ask for that slander 😅😅... I do absolutely love your reviews and podcast!!! Please keep all the jokes coming❤
William default actually played Nosferatu in the comedy film about the making of the original 1922 film, Nosferatu. Shadow of the Vampire
Hoe in a different area code!?😂😂😂😂
This is the only review I need
To me the lack of sexuality is emblematic of where sexuality as a whole in western culture is currently standing. Gen Z isn’t having as much sex and any depictions of it are seen by younger people as exploitation, such was the response to Poor Things
I’m surprised her terrible hair wasn’t mentioned!
They had he forehead on full display
“You don’t even see his butt” lol add that to your formal written review 😅
"...like he booked an appointment on rover."
😂😂😂😂
I'm dying rn!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Listen... I have ZERO plans to see this doggone movie. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this review here. 😆 "Bytch!! You have THREE nights to get yo'self together." 💯
I agree with everything except the look of Count Orlok. I liked the look of Bill Skarskad as Nosferatu. I thought it was good that they didn't portray him exactly like the other films, as a bald man with two front buck teeth. They took the then Count Vlad Dracul III as inspiration, which I think is fitting. He had a beard just like that back then. He looks like Count Dracul III would look if he was slowly decomposing. But omg the last scene with Ellen where he lies on top of her and kisses her etc all I had to think about was that he must stink beyond belief. A centuries old monster kissing you, god only knows what he must stink like. But what I also didn't understand was, did they have sex or did he “just” bite her?
I thought I was alone in finding Lily Rose Depp acting SO funny omg
Oh I forgot the part where holts character is told to kiss her heart and goes for her neck. Then is like imma stab him in the heart and stabs the stomach. And then is like I'm off to fight the monster. I was like my dude you can't even find someone's heart lol. You couldn't even make it to the castle, please sit down and let the adults handle the monster lol
Still prefer The Witch and The Lighthouse (for rewatch value) but Nosferatu was 100% better of an experience for me than the disappointingly bad The Northman.
Hoult and McBurney drive this film along. As evil as The Count is, correct as his look was and his mannerisms felt…can’t say he was a memorable, spine-tingling vampire. Not the actor’s fault, he just wasn’t allowed to expand past his decrepit limitations.
The Last Voyage of the Damita Jo 😂
I enjoyed it, especially visually. I thought all of the performances were excellent. I do agree that there was something dispassionate about it: sort of cold in its delivery. But maybe that’s the point. The underlying theme to me was sadness and despair: something both Ellen and the count shared, which I think is what endeared her to him. She wasn’t just a victim. And I think they both wanted to die, ultimately. The count looked right into the sun and almost seemed comforted by it. His scream was a release and a relief from the darkness. It wasn’t about sensuality and sex so much as it was about needing to feel seen and heard by someone or something that understands. That’s why she’s calling out for a guardian angel in the opening scene: she’s desperate for connection. There were problems for sure, but overall I think the film is a great addition to the vampire canon.
Best review I’ve seen of the movie. I completely agree with the negatives and positives
I'm over here not really connecting with any of this ....until I remembered being a bit obsessed with Keanu Reeves 15-20 years ago and he mentioned in an interview that he was reading Kinski Uncut: The Autobiography of Klaus Kinski. I got a copy from my library and read it over the weekend and had my whole mind BLOWN!!.. That man was CRAZY!🤣😂😂
I’m reading it since you mentioned it. He thinks in a very non-typical way. Weird.
Since you mentioned Keanu Reeves, who I adore, but in Dracula, he was terribly cast...
your reviews are great because you both talk to each other and us how we would be speaking with each other in our homes or post walking out the theatre when watching with friends and discussing post film..."you know what didn't make sense?..."
That pause at the end before mentioning your podcast and patreon 😂
Great review! I may miss this one in the theatre and catch it on streaming instead. Will be seeing the 1979 version 😎
Watch this one in the theatre, Eggers is one of the most unique voices in cinema today, films like this need supporting, 93% on RT
Nooo. You should watch in the theater . Audience reactions are a part of the fun of movies nowadays.
For example, The Substance was the most fun I’ve had with a collective movie watching experience in YEARS.
I adore all your reviews! Totally agree with this one, and so glad to hear you guys mention the Herzog version (which is so much better)!
I couldn’t pay attention to this one much at all. I was distracted by Joseph’s arms, oh my!!! I-
WHEW! Sorry Nick! 😂
the way you deliver "speaking English in Germany, don't know why, but okay" ahahhahahaha
What if she's playing dead asleep and starts waking the vampire with a shoe and goes to the kitchen for an egg sandwich and lays farts until the vampire passes out lol 😂
Y'all are 100000% my favorite film critics.
Nicolas Holt in 1800s is a target of Nosferatu. Also Nicolas Hoult in 2020’s is Dracula’s lackey,Renfield .
actually, actually, despite everything, the long moustaches were in the original Dracula novel and a peculiar features of the central-eastern european "bojard" nobility (great warriors btw).
I'm literally here to figure out what the eff I just watched. This had to be one of the grossest movies I've seen in a while. And I was confused. This is my first time watching anything Nosferatu and I was only interested because people kept going on about a perfume inspired by the movie. Appreciate the review, definitely hit subscribe!
You guys are just the best. Pure movie lovers with so much knowledge but you never talk down to us. Thanks for this review. You may not love a film but I never feel like you're telling us what to see or not see. Love the attention to the 1979 film.
THAT THUMBNAIL THOUGH 💀😭🤣
“B**** you have 3 nights to get it together”……. That was how he should have said it in the movie!!😂😂😂😂😂
Sanity restored
You guys nailed again as usual. Thanks!
Y'all did her a bit dirty with that thumbnail
I’m a huge fan of Eggers (The Lighthouse is one of favorite movies ever made), but I 100% agree with y’all. This felt more like a run-of-the-mill studio horror than something a great auteur like Eggers would make. There are SO many obvious problems with it!
Thank you for blessing me with your background 💀😂
Can't wait to hear this one 😊
Uff I will really love a review of the AMC's Interview with the vampire from the 2 of you **
Oh God that mustache, maybe the most evil crime a vampire has committed.
I love it when you guys tag team a movie!! I chuckle.
Personally I liked the movie a lot based solely on the camera shots.
That's fair. It was nice as an art piece but boring as a film
I felt bad for cracking up as often as I did in a relatively silent theater, especially when homegirl did the monster mash.
I was very hyped to see this movie and I thought it was better than I expected. I was impressed by Eggers restraint. He could’ve went in the direction of over the top gore and blood but he didn’t. He also didn’t make it overly sexual. Very smart movie. Amazing visuals. This was a great movie.
dude was just trying to take nap when tommy woke him up. And then at the end, he got fried. poor orlak
Eggers said there’s going to be a 3hr cut of the movie when it comes out on Blu-ray lol.
I have to rewatch it because I fell asleep multiple times during the movie.
"I thought it was Lurch!"🤣🤣🤣🤣 You are too much!
I definitely liked the movie more than you both did, but I super-appreciated your take on it. Made me laugh out in several spots. Eggers film is clearly thin (or opaque) in some of the storyline and psychology but I still enjoyed the craftsmanship- and the physical aspect of Depp’s performance in certain scenes. Anyway you’ve convinced me to rewatch the Herzog film again, which I haven’t seen in decades. Thanks for your reviews 👏👏👏
This was the best 5am wake up for work. Thanks for the review! And loved that it was early. Glad you all had a nice thanksgiving
I felt the same way about how there’s such a lack of sexual dynamic between Orlak and Ellen
I had a friend who saw an advanced screening who when asked described the film as “Fine, it was fine.” And yea that’s where I’m at with it as well. I reread Dracula earlier this year which heightened my excitement as well as a love for Eggers three prior films. It was so flat, tho. Adds nothing new of value to make it feel necessary imo
I´m glad you do your regular movie reviews. I like to hear some opinions after watching the movie myself, but a lot of UA-camrs are basically unwatchable for me. I enjoyed the movie a lot, but it doesn´t come close to the lighthouse or the witch in terms of cinematic perfection. I liked the casting, the cinematography, the sound-design, the production-design. I didn´t like the usual hollywood plot structure instead of Eggers otherwise less traditional style. There also were some imperfections in terms of VFX that are kinda unusual for the perfectionist that Eggers is. Some of the acting was more theatrical, some was more muted subtile. Nevertheless, great experience on the big screen. I´m overly critical because it is Eggers, but I think there was a more unique Version of this movie, Eggers just hasn´t found it when the script was accepted for production.
Having just finished yall are as always right on point with your critiques
Great movie
So you always agree with everything they say in their reviews?
@ Absolutely not however I don’t always have the vocabulary to state how I was feeling around certain topics so having professional reviewers share similar sentiments helps me understand even if I don’t fully agree
Honestly to me and my girlfriend, Orlock with that mustache was very reminiscent of Dr Robotnik which funny enough was playing in the next theater over 🤣
Hey guys, the photo you chose for background is really disturbing! Great review, as usual !
The opening scene where Ellen is laying on the ground looking like she is ****ing off a ghost, I was trying to hold back laughing in a packed theater.
Disagree
This version of Nosferatu to me is the best recreation of its mythos, a walking corpse cursed with eternal life through consuming the blood of other people, in the movie Orlok recognizes what he is "i am appetite", "a loathesome beast"
Its more accurate to the original idea of vampires and actually presents them for what they are, monsters.
In terms of Orlok's look, his moustache and hair, personally i love the aesthetics, i love that its period accurate to what a person in those times that had nobility would look like.
I think what was interesting about the English speaking is that when we time jumped and the German Language was translated via subtitle after that, they spoke English. I forgot another film that did similarly
He definitely should have fleshed out the connection and the pact more.
This is the first time I have come across your channel. I like your description of “gay homosexuals…” And here I thought being gay and homosexual were pretty much the same thing! Anyway, thought that was funny. Thanks for the video.
Damn the plot sounds dumb. Why does Ellen suddenly have all that sexual frustration and repression? Why does her husband gets cuckolded in this? Why did they take away her agency-and gave it to Dafoe who now is the one who reads about how to kill vampire and tells Ellen that she basically has to sacrifice herself?! Why did they make that stupid backstory which made Ellen directly to blame for Orlok coming to Germany at all because she already had a pact with him?!
It’s all in the movie, which is why it’s frustrating these guys weren’t picking up on it
@@ghostface8667 The guys picked up on it. They just thought it was stupid and a detriment to the story, which I fully agree with. Just because you can explain yourself doesn't mean what you're doing isn't fucking stupid.
That being said, what did you think of the hairstyles?? Lily Rose Depp had a bad middle part with way too much hairline, and Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor Johnson look like they had their hair curled with a curling iron, or maybe someone curled some extensions and pinned those on. It was giving the Cowardly Lion at the end of "The Wizard of Oz".
Her wig was so distracting 😂
Just watched the movie, i fell asleep and was struggling to stay awake.
I was staying awake hoping it would all be worth it in the end. It wasn't.
Completely agree and in some ways more entertaining to watch than the film 😅 I liked it. Great acting, atmosphere, and well shot but felt paper thin and completely fell apart in the last ten minutes for me …
Omg hi guys! So Nick you mentioned the Hunger with Catherine Deneuve that was such a cult classic! I need to rewatch it. That was a punk rock anthem for me and my emo/ goth friend group lol. Plus David Bowie, Bauhaus , Susan Sarandon, Willem Dafoe among many others are in it. What a sensual movie. 🍿💋
It seems like this film is similar to Mary Reilly where the attempt was made to remake Jekyll and Hyde but the result was so meh it was totally forgettable. Even though the cast was amazing with Julia Robert’s, John malkovich , Glenn close etc but the movie was so dry. But lily rose was not the right person for this role at all. It is disappointing because I really love the Witch it’s one of my all time favorite movies ever however the only thing I enjoyed about the Northman was seeing Bjork play in a role again and I didn’t care for the Lighthouse.
I will probably still sit through this at home and stream it because I’m a sucker for anything period or historical dramas 😎
You guys rock ❤
This just looks like a mashup of Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Nosferatu. They keep hiding Nosferatu’s appearance, so I will be very pissed, if he just looks like the 1922 and 1979 versions. You guys say he looks like a normal but tall man, but most other reviewers say he has a monstrous appearance. I’m confused.
He absolutely has a monstrous appearance.
Eggers said his intent for this version of Nosferatu was to make a "Dracula" film that wasn't pristine and elegant looking.
Which means he made Orlock look more gruesome.
I have absolutely ZERO clue what these two are talking about...
@@JG-ts2udI haven't seen it yet, but all I've read is heaps of praise. So I don't get it either. With it being Eggers passion project I couldn't imagine it being not great.
