Birding in the spectacular Cave Creek Canyon of Arizona.

Located on the east side of the Chiricahua Mountains, the spectacular Cave Creek Canyon is a birder’s paradise. It is also home for many other species of wildlife with a very restricted range in the United States. One cannot be amazed enough by jaw-dropping spectacular steep cliffs and pinnacles along Cave Creek and South Fork Canyons. At the base of the cliffs, a paved road parallels the lush riparian area for several miles. Numerous pullouts and several campgrounds allow one to park and explore on foot.

You have excellent pictures and video of the wildlife in southeast Arizona. I also appreciated your information about each animal. The only point I would challenge you on was that the cartoon Woody Woodpecker was not inspired by the Acorn woodpecker, but by the Piliated woodpecker as noted in the except from an online article.
"Cartoonist Walter Lantz used the pileated woodpecker's jaunty crest and loud call as models for his most-famous creation, Woody Woodpecker".

Thank you for sharing!… You made like a nice little nature documentary! We’re coming to the Chiricauwas in late June. At this point we’re staying at the Bonita campground. Would you recommend it instead staying at one of these campgrounds?… Also will there be still some good birding in any of these areas at that time?

Bonita campground can be good in late June to see some of the regular southeastern Arizona specialties. However, if you want to see Elegant Trogons and the possibility of some of the rarer hummingbirds, we highly recommend using the Sunny Flats campground as a base. Nice video. I agree that all the name changes is getting of of hand. Changing the family as more info comes about is fine but to keep changing the common name is just too confusing. Unless the family name is part of the common name there's no reason to keep changing the common name just because they put it in a different family.
