    I remember going to the Black Mesa in Oklahoma. Jack a long time friend of my Dads and his boys, me and my brother went to the part of the BM that was notorious for Mummies being found in Sand Caves in the surrounding area. We did find a cave. It only went back into the bluff about 40-50' nearest I could remember. There was another opening low to the ground in the back of the Cave, and even as children 12-14 years of age we would have to dig the sand to get through the opening. I stuck my hand back in through the opening and found that the floor through the opening was very wet. We did not explore any further, as our Dads told us not to be very long, since had to get back to Kansas.

      @@advennature950 Yes, these were memories I won't forget, and let me say that I'm going by what I remember. Jack told stories of a child found buried in a cave, and was thought to be so well preserved by the arid dry climate. Not sure we were in the same area as where the Mummies were found, and I said the large opening in the sand rock with the almost perfectly rounded roof may have been about 30-40' deep with the small opening in the back of the sand cave. Everything is larger when your younger. I remember running down from the bluff after you get past the jagged rocks and my Dad was yelling don't run, slow down. LOL, we could have ruined ourselves that day. Sticking my hand back as far as I could in the smaller hole wasn't very smart either. You have no fear as a young person.

    Thank you for the nice video 🙂 I just finished a week of birding in SE AZ, and it was amazing 🙂 I got all of these birds "except" the Olive Warbler... Which I really wanted 😢 Exactly where the heck do they come down low ??? Because I really need to go back 🙂 And the more excuses, the better 😀

      We have had good luck with Olive Warbler during the summer at the Barfoot/Rustler Parks intersection above the Onion Saddle in the Chiricauhua Mountains. A few birds overwinter in lower elevation areas such as Cave Creek Canyon. Our advice is to listen for their calls as they tend to sing from the tops of the tall pine trees during the breeding season. Thank you for watching.

    Another great spot. I’ve tracked down the Trogon several times. Awesome bird. I need to get back to Sierra Vista one of these days to find the one semi local bird that has alluded me, the Flame Colored Tanager.

    • @advennature950
      @advennature950 5 місяців тому

      Any day you see a trogon is always a good day. The tanager is a bogey bird for many birders. Even when present, it can still be hard to get a decent view! Miller and Ramsey Canyons sometimes have a lingering bird, as well as Cave Creek Canyon near Portal. Good luck in your quest for the Flame.

The camping sites all have astronomical names as the narrator pointed out, it has dark Bortle class 2 skies. If you want to stargaze don't camp in the rocks as you may find your views blocked.
