Well.... It was a fresh new take on things! In all the reactions i've seen, that is the most original take on the Salem Lionheart situation I have heard.
God, I love how the shot of Weiss falling over at the end is framed. Being in the exact same pose as Pyrrha's death for a fraction of a second, only a couple minutes after refreshing everyone's memory of what that looked like with Ruby's flashback. CRWBY are cruel.
I wasn't worried about any fatalities. General rule of thumb for me is when someone is shown getting a dramatic blow; if it's not the head or heart, it's not fatal.
I think they shouldn't put where the spear go througth Weiss they should have save that part for the next episode cuz gave us hope and it would have been more dramatic
Spring has been gone for a long time. Without a maiden to protect the school/city, Salem could put a lot of pressure on Leo to give up just a little info. Save the city, give up something small. A little information. And once he does, just up the cost next time. After a while, he can't even go to Oz for help without saying he's been co-operating with Salem. Spring has been gone 10 years. Leo may have been giving up little bits for almost all of that.

While Matthew's theory on why Lionheart is obeying Salem is possible, I prefer to go with the simpler version: Leo simply doesn't want to die, and is convinced that Salem not only has the means but the motive to kill him if he doesn't do as she says. Fear for your own life is also a great motivator.
You're right. Lionheart is based on the Cowardly Lion from Wizard of Oz, so it makes sense that he is just terrified of Salem and is fearing for his life, and that's why he's helping her.
@@DocMicrowave The thing is that she is super powerful, but in more of a supportive role. Her glyphs and dust have saved her and her teammates countless times. From her attract and repel glyphs to her time manipulation to her elemental abilities, she has the most variety out of all of the others that are her age, and she is very mobile with the assistance of her glyphs. And her offense is very powerful in terms of her summons, but she's relying on them too much, and her defensive capabilties in general are kinda lacking. So in a one on one, where she doesn't have time to properly manifest a summon, she loses. You're right that she needs to improve. She needs to increase her defensive and non-summon related offensive capabilities.
@@seraphimrosenhart173 I agree. She is basically a Glass Canon. I am curious to see Winter in action again. Well, actually we saw a little of that back in 3x4 I think. Winter looked like she mastered her speed, agility, glyphs and combat skills. I am trying to Image Weiss getting to that level. There is a reason why Winter made it to be one of Ironwood's top subordinates. And I don't think its because of her summons. Weiss needs alot more work. I would really like to see her equal or even surpass Winter in capability.
@NeoXShiro Prd. Yes, they did take down Amber. But that situation was a little different. A newby Maiden with no experience with her new powers vs three trained and ruthless attackers. One with hidden weapons, one who can screw with your mind, and the mastermind who had her own hidden abilities. Here you have a student apparently going 1v1 with a fully trained and experienced maiden. Even a full fledged huntsman would have no chance. By the way, no maiden powers where needed to take out Weiss. Cant go any further without risking spoilers. Just saying, from what has been demonstrated. I dont think even a team of fully trained Huntsmen can take down a fully trained and battle hardened Maiden.

"That got real quiet…." Duuuuudeee!!! hahaha yeah! I really love how they did this in this moment… at that point Weiss was "best girl" for a lot of people in comparison to like Volume 1... So this hit was hard xD!
From this volume forward, Weiss was best Girl to me, IMHO. Her character had come along way. I think she progressed more than any of the other three at this point. She's almost the proverbial mother of the team. I guess this was CRWBY's idea of 'breaking the cutie'. Or in this case, Breaking the best girl. I don't think quite the same level of shock would have been generated if this happened to Yang or Blake as they have had their wounds and are more battle hardened. If it happened to Ruby, maybe. But I fear they are saving Ruby for something else down the line. JNR have also had their trials. So the next best choice was to break Weiss for maximum shock value.
Weiss always has been and still is my favorite from Team RWBY. Even back in Vol 1. I’ve always loved the bitchy tsundere types with a heart of gold, and the way Weiss acts now is just the frosting on the cake.

You KNOW there is a LOOOOOT of history behind that line. - A Lot of people are confused as to why Qrow and company walked into this if they thought it was a trap. The answer is that Oz and Qrow suspected that SOMEONE on the Mistral council (who control the Huntsmen in the kingdom) was working with/for Salem. They just didn't expect that it would be Lionheart. Their trust in Lionheart (since he was hand picked by Ozpin) did not let them consider the possibility. They thought his "odd behavior" was a reaction to the politics of someone on the Mistral council working for Salem. - Actually it was Worse .. we had to wait 2 weeks before we saw what happened. And Yes, we all think Cinder picked that Shape and Color for the spear to reflect that of Pyrrha as an extra "FU" to Jaune.
- Yes, A LOT of history.... that we're still waiting to see. - That is actually a good explanation for why they would have knowingly walked into a trap. Never did understand the build up of them figuring it out and then going there and acting surprised at the 'trap'. - Yes that was a hard two week wait. It was on par with the episode 3x6 to 3x7 wait way back when, which occurred during a hiatus over the holidays and new year's day. Actually, I feel like that was a 3 week wait. Could be wrong.

I am thinking now that the writers should have backed down a little with that seen of Qrow and Oz pondering of Lionhearts change of....... heart. Kinda built everyone up. 'Yep, they know its a trap. They're ready for it. This is part of the plan. Just walk in.'

If they had done that, then Lionheart's odd behavior would look to Qrow and Oz like he is trying his best but is being sabotaged by someone on the council.
When this first came out the CRWBY changed a lot of the RWBY logos on VRV and RoosterTeeth to have the W in RWBY cut through, which scared the crap outta all of us.

The biggest issue with this episode was one of blocking within the room (you should be seeing the other fights going on in the background in the shots thruout the room, and you dont) and I think it is reflective of them being under a lot of time pressure to get this episode done and it kept them from being able to show more than one fight at a time
Mary's right. Episode ended on Weiss in the EXACT pose from that Pyrrha died in. Complete with the little fall forward where Cinder caught Pyrrha and atomised her.
I am so happy i was not the only one to analyze the anatomy of that shot!!! So many people were like “oh how is that lethal?” And I’m like... “that went right through her chest cavity and Liver yo!”

Oh my GOD, come on, you people are smarter than this! None of the things the characters do make any sense! You expected them to be prepared for a trap, but then Weiss confirms they had no idea! Nora and Ren leave Jaune to DIE as he fights a Maiden ALONE! So does Oscar! And BOTH parties were wandering away from the REAL threat to provoke enemies who were probably just going to STAND THERE!! Hazel even said he didn't want to fight!
I heard people say things like "It wasn't through her heart, so Weiss will be fine", but I think it going through her liver is perfect. Cinder made sure it would be lethal AND slow and painful, she wanted Weiss to take a long time to die just so not only she, but specially Jaune would suffer more.
I love that Yang takes one look at that damn bird and just immediately recognizes it as her mom. That's gotta be real weird out of context. If Blake were here she'd be _very_ confused. Poor cat.

To prove how much of a jerk Cinder is, she had Ruby unconscious right next to her, the person she wanted revenge on, but instead decided to attack Weiss just to mess with Jaune.

I remember when this came out and there was debate on whether Weiss was going to die or not. The first thing I said was, “You can still spell team R(W)BY without the W.” 😂
@Whiterose Petal Tale I edited the comment, but honestly she gets incapacitated more then the rest of the team. Going in chronological order, V5 Weiss trailer winter has to call off her summons because Weiss lost. V1 she was fine but that's because she barely did any fighting. She ran away from everything in the emerald forest until they had to take out the nevermore and the only other fight was vs the boarbatusk (unless I'm missing something) volume 2 she gets shot by torchwicks mech while casting the time glyph on blake. Now she gets back up to help ruby, so if you dont count it that's fine. Against the white fang lieutenant she gets rekt. Volume 3 against FNKI she is literally on the ground with Flynt about to finish her off when he turns his attention to Yang and Weiss then sacrifices herself to protect Yang. Volume 4 was fine because she didnt fight at all in it. Volume 5 she defeats the Lancers but in the process crashes the ship she's in. I wouldn't really call that a victory. She then is completely bodied by Vernal in the fight in this episode. Volume 6 she is better and I don't think she gets taken out in that one... Once again, Weiss is best girl, and is my favorite character in this show, and she's great in a team fight, but because her semblance is very supportive and not as offensive, she suffers in 1v1 situations.
Lionheart (almost) cannot have a human kid. Lionheart is a faunus(we see his tail), faunusXfaunus=faunus, faunusXhuman=most of the time Faunus. This is clearly explain in one of the RWBY canon video "world of Remnant" which are suppose to be watch between volume 3 and 4 and between volume 4 and 5 (on UA-cam or RoosterTeeth website).

After having watched this episode at least 20 times, I just realized something... When Raven opens the portal to allow Cinder and entourage through, where is the other end of the portal being opened...? Based on how her semblance works, Crow and Yang are clearly here... Tai would be the only other option that isn't present.. Unless Raven has 'attached' to another we don't know about yet?

Ive been looking forward to you guys' reaction to this episode. The spear cinder used IS pyrrha's weapon. Its cinder adding salt to the wound by using the weapon of the person jaune loved to harm another person he cared for.
@@Sketcher0204 it wasn't EXACTLY .. but it looked similar enough and the consensus in the FNDM was that it was intentional by Cinder as an added FU to Jaune. Think of it as Cinder's memory/mental image of the weapon Pyrrha used against her.

It's a similar color to Pyrhha's weapon, but shape and stylistically it's very different. It's still a FU to Jaune, as Cinder knows he was interested in Weiss, and the method of use is similar - putting something sharp and slender into someone with quite a bit of kinetic force. But only Cinder and Ruby were witnesses to Pyrrha's death (I'm discounting Kevin, as he's apparently not talking). Unless Ruby described the scene to Jaune in gory detail (can you see her doing that to him?), the spear as such is less important to Jaune than Cinder trying to kill someone that's important to him.
I've been dreading this Chapter reaction. Weiss is my fav. It's hard to watch her fighting (and losing) to Vernal. But that ending was horrible to see the first time.
Horrible but not unexpected. Weiss had NO idea who she was up against. Probably saw Vernal as some little snot who took her sword, made fun of and insult her. A wilderness thug she though she could dispatch just as easily. That look on Weiss's face when Vernal sliced through her Ice and Knight like butter in one swipe though. She had to be thinking, 'I am expertly trained. I have an OP semblance. Who is this chick? What did I get myself into?' Though to be fair, she was not using her semblance and training effectively or efficiently. Even if she did, she would have lost though.
@Whiterose Petal Tale One slight problem with the scenario as described: Cinder struck Weiss while Ruby was laying unconscious on the floor after the Silver Eye outburst, so Cinder couldn't do it "right before her (Ruby's) eyes." However, the impact of Ruby waking up to that scene would undoubtedly have served Cinder's revenge pretty well.
I thought this fight lacked the proper energy and urgency. A lot of standing around and talking and delayed reactions. Not the best wrap up of a season. The exception is the fight in the vault, which is off the wall. You can tell where the writers invested the most of their attention.
1)technically lionheart is just rational - we can't win so siding with the winning team to not become a victim 2)yeah merc is annoying but raven is just.................... grrrrrrrrrr 3+4)weiss defenitely needs to get faster with her attacks - so many wasted moments/moves -> normally that would be an episode where everyone switches opponents but they had to make jaune such a waste of space in that fight - thats what made me dislike most of this but can't say more here without spoiler... so just taping a forest and a mountain and pay green/red mana for a meteor sorcery mfg Olli
1) Lionheart is a survivor. Did what he could to stay alive at the time. Few Regrets. 2) Raven is a survivor. Did what she could to stay alive at the time. No Regrets. 3) Weiss definitely was not using her Skill and Abilities efficiently. She needs more training and experience. Technically, against Vernal it would not have made a difference even if she had. 4) Switching up opponents would have been interesting. But anyone drawing Vernal has a dance partner would have lost, Badly! Vernal has years of hardcore wilderness battle training and fighting. She learned how to fight effectively, and dirty when needed. Weiss is way to proper in her fighting style. Proper form won't win a fight in the wild when your opponents won't play by the rules.
at that time whan i saw this episode a long time ago, i made 2 predictions who were actually true and i was so happy to predict that^^ i dont want to spoil you so i'll say nothing more but if you really want to know i will say it further in this comment in french and explication in french too bienvenue amis francophone ma premiere prediction a l'epoque etais quil etais impossible pour moi que weiss meure, en tous cas pas dans cette saison car d'une part le personnage avait encore beaucoup a nous dévoiler sur son backgroung et son evolution possible car elle commencait tt juste a maitriser ses glypes, mais elle fait surtout partie de la team principale rwby, la plus importante, celle de jaune etant plus secondaire notament au debut de la serie. la seconde etait plus ardue jai predit que jaune sauverait weiss. cette derniere est tombée mais n'a pas disparu comme pyrha, sa blessure est grave mais on peu tjrs la soigner et a ce moment la, le choc de weiss transpercé passé, jai eu une declic. je me suis dit que ca pourrait etre le meilleur moment pour debloquer la semblance de soin de jaune qui permettrait de la sauver. a l'epoque pyrha disait que jaune avait une aura tres vaste et dans lepisode d'avant ou encore d'avant ozpin nous rapellait que jaune ne l'avait pas encore debloquer. l'episode d'apres me donna a moitié raison etant donné que la compétence quil debloque n'est pas un heal banal a proprement parlé mais une sorte de pouvoir qui aide laura de la personne a se soigner d'elle meme, une sorte de semblance amplificatrice de semblance et d'aura.

- That is actually a good explanation for why they would have knowingly walked into a trap. Never did understand the build up of them figuring it out and then going there and acting surprised at the 'trap'.
- Yes that was a hard two week wait. It was on par with the episode 3x6 to 3x7 wait way back when, which occurred during a hiatus over the holidays and new year's day. Actually, I feel like that was a 3 week wait. Could be wrong.

I am thinking now that the writers should have backed down a little with that seen of Qrow and Oz pondering of Lionhearts change of....... heart. Kinda built everyone up. 'Yep, they know its a trap. They're ready for it. This is part of the plan. Just walk in.'
@@DocMicrowave Agreed .. or they should have added a line like "Someone on the council is working for her" .. to indicate they suspect the council, but not Lionheart. If they had done that, then Lionheart's odd behavior would look to Qrow and Oz like he is trying his best but is being sabotaged by someone on the council.
When this first came out the CRWBY changed a lot of the RWBY logos on VRV and RoosterTeeth to have the W in RWBY cut through, which scared the crap outta all of us.

The biggest issue with this episode was one of blocking within the room (you should be seeing the other fights going on in the background in the shots thruout the room, and you dont) and I think it is reflective of them being under a lot of time pressure to get this episode done and it kept them from being able to show more than one fight at a time

None of the things the characters do make any sense! You expected them to be prepared for a trap, but then Weiss confirms they had no idea! Nora and Ren leave Jaune to DIE as he fights a Maiden ALONE! So does Oscar! And BOTH parties were wandering away from the REAL threat to provoke enemies who were probably just going to STAND THERE!! Hazel even said he didn't want to fight!
They went to holiday break after this episode, so most people had to wait almost 4 weeks to find out

@Whiterose Petal Tale I edited the comment, but honestly she gets incapacitated more then the rest of the team. Going in chronological order, V5 Weiss trailer winter has to call off her summons because Weiss lost. V1 she was fine but that's because she barely did any fighting. She ran away from everything in the emerald forest until they had to take out the nevermore and the only other fight was vs the boarbatusk (unless I'm missing something) volume 2 she gets shot by torchwicks mech while casting the time glyph on blake. Now she gets back up to help ruby, so if you dont count it that's fine. Against the white fang lieutenant she gets rekt. Volume 3 against FNKI she is literally on the ground with Flynt about to finish her off when he turns his attention to Yang and Weiss then sacrifices herself to protect Yang. Volume 4 was fine because she didnt fight at all in it. Volume 5 she defeats the Lancers but in the process crashes the ship she's in. I wouldn't really call that a victory. She then is completely bodied by Vernal in the fight in this episode. Volume 6 she is better and I don't think she gets taken out in that one...
Once again, Weiss is best girl, and is my favorite character in this show, and she's great in a team fight, but because her semblance is very supportive and not as offensive, she suffers in 1v1 situations.

When Raven opens the portal to allow Cinder and entourage through, where is the other end of the portal being opened...? Based on how her semblance works, Crow and Yang are clearly here... Tai would be the only other option that isn't present.. Unless Raven has 'attached' to another we don't know about yet?

The spear cinder used IS pyrrha's weapon. Its cinder adding salt to the wound by using the weapon of the person jaune loved to harm another person he cared for.

@@Sketcher0204 it wasn't EXACTLY .. but it looked similar enough and the consensus in the FNDM was that it was intentional by Cinder as an added FU to Jaune. Think of it as Cinder's memory/mental image of the weapon Pyrrha used against her.

It's a similar color to Pyrhha's weapon, but shape and stylistically it's very different. It's still a FU to Jaune, as Cinder knows he was interested in Weiss, and the method of use is similar - putting something sharp and slender into someone with quite a bit of kinetic force. But only Cinder and Ruby were witnesses to Pyrrha's death (I'm discounting Kevin, as he's apparently not talking). Unless Ruby described the scene to Jaune in gory detail (can you see her doing that to him?), the spear as such is less important to Jaune than Cinder trying to kill someone that's important to him.

I've been dreading this Chapter reaction. Weiss is my fav. It's hard to watch her fighting (and losing) to Vernal. But that ending was horrible to see the first time.
Horrible but not unexpected. Weiss had NO idea who she was up against. Probably saw Vernal as some little snot who took her sword, made fun of and insult her. A wilderness thug she though she could dispatch just as easily.
That look on Weiss's face when Vernal sliced through her Ice and Knight like butter in one swipe though. She had to be thinking, 'I am expertly trained. I have an OP semblance. Who is this chick? What did I get myself into?' Though to be fair, she was not using her semblance and training effectively or efficiently. Even if she did, she would have lost though.

@Whiterose Petal Tale One slight problem with the scenario as described: Cinder struck Weiss while Ruby was laying unconscious on the floor after the Silver Eye outburst, so Cinder couldn't do it "right before her (Ruby's) eyes." However, the impact of Ruby waking up to that scene would undoubtedly have served Cinder's revenge pretty well.
I thought this fight lacked the proper energy and urgency. A lot of standing around and talking and delayed reactions. Not the best wrap up of a season.
The exception is the fight in the vault, which is off the wall. You can tell where the writers invested the most of their attention.

3+4)weiss defenitely needs to get faster with her attacks - so many wasted moments/moves -> normally that would be an episode where everyone switches opponents but they had to make jaune such a waste of space in that fight - thats what made me dislike most of this but can't say more here without spoiler... so just taping a forest and a mountain and pay green/red mana for a meteor sorcery

1) Lionheart is a survivor. Did what he could to stay alive at the time. Few Regrets.
2) Raven is a survivor. Did what she could to stay alive at the time. No Regrets.
3) Weiss definitely was not using her Skill and Abilities efficiently. She needs more training and experience. Technically, against Vernal it would not have made a difference even if she had.
4) Switching up opponents would have been interesting. But anyone drawing Vernal has a dance partner would have lost, Badly!
Vernal has years of hardcore wilderness battle training and fighting. She learned how to fight effectively, and dirty when needed. Weiss is way to proper in her fighting style. Proper form won't win a fight in the wild when your opponents won't play by the rules.
Lionheart's weapon really is shit.

ma premiere prediction a l'epoque etais quil etais impossible pour moi que weiss meure, en tous cas pas dans cette saison car d'une part le personnage avait encore beaucoup a nous dévoiler sur son backgroung et son evolution possible car elle commencait tt juste a maitriser ses glypes, mais elle fait surtout partie de la team principale rwby, la plus importante, celle de jaune etant plus secondaire notament au debut de la serie.
la seconde etait plus ardue jai predit que jaune sauverait weiss. cette derniere est tombée mais n'a pas disparu comme pyrha, sa blessure est grave mais on peu tjrs la soigner et a ce moment la, le choc de weiss transpercé passé, jai eu une declic. je me suis dit que ca pourrait etre le meilleur moment pour debloquer la semblance de soin de jaune qui permettrait de la sauver. a l'epoque pyrha disait que jaune avait une aura tres vaste et dans lepisode d'avant ou encore d'avant ozpin nous rapellait que jaune ne l'avait pas encore debloquer. l'episode d'apres me donna a moitié raison etant donné que la compétence quil debloque n'est pas un heal banal a proprement parlé mais une sorte de pouvoir qui aide laura de la personne a se soigner d'elle meme, une sorte de semblance amplificatrice de semblance et d'aura.
Raven Is Terrifying, Even without her Maiden Powers. She'd still be able to beat Qrow relatively easily.
The fighrlt scene is atrocious. This finale is by far the worst.
