Hello Friends. I'm sorry to send a group message, but it seemed the most expeditious way to inform friends who either knew or have heard me speak on many occasions about my mother. On Friday of last week, we lost our dear mother after a year long battle with cancer. Her homecoming is scheduled for Saturday December 28, and I am working on establishing an education trust in her name. I ask for your prayers of strength and healing for the family at this time. My mother knew and loved each of you, either by direct contact, or by the myriad of stories I've shared with her about you. My mother touched everyone with whom she came into contact, and I have come to learn of many others who have offered words of comfort during this difficult time. Thank you for taking the time to receive this message. I'm prayerful that our paths will cross soon. Peace and Love, Robin Lee (daughter of Maxine Ballard Jenkins)

Florence Ballard was the star of the Supremes, but everyone wants to make or think that Diana Ross was when she really wasn't people should really look at the history and background before talking

It will be very interesting to know what Maxine thinks of "Motown The Musical"
The charade that Berry Gordy, Diane Ross, Smokey Robinson and the "snake in the grass" Suzanne De Passe are orchestrating and opening on Broadway?

I wonder where the father of Florence's three beautiful daughters was when she passed away. Where is he now? What is his responsibility in this situation with his own children?

people with ALL DUE RESPECT... It's called the music business, not the music friendship.. asuming that it runs any differently than any other business is just ignorant.. Artist and business associates enter into an agreement solely for the purpose of making money. that being said Flo was awesome. probly more talented than Diana..

Why don't you go to the FBI on this Man??? This man is "Dangerous"... he's destroying these young Artists in New York and California, and in the Music Industry....Smokey Robinson knows, Diana Ross knows, now I know......
She spoke directly from the Grave..... You're in my Prayers.....

however diana had that every girl appeal, meaning her voice was ok... most girls can sing like that, her looks were pretty good and glamorious wich are achieveable through make up and wigs... FLo had that either your born with it or not beauty and the same goes for her voice. Saddly when you market for mass appeal the better talent isnt always appreciated.. in other words, she was way ahead of her time.

Even in the Temptations movie that was loosely based on the facts showed the girls were with Eddie and Paul before they even were signed at Motown.

for those that mention Jay z and puff, what makes them different is that they were smart enough to know how the industry works and established there own companies. If you enter to the music business and think people have your best interest at heart, you should save yourself the time and just do kareoke for fun.. entering into the music business is accepting that you and your talent are a commodity and the second your share holders sees a better stock option, believe there going with it.

@deepdarkcocoa So were all the white ones Cocoa. The biggest hit " The Reflections " had was in 1964, " Just Like Romeo & Juliet ". I've seen this band perform at St. Raphael's in Garden City, Mi. for the lat 27 years. Tony Micale makes no secret that they never made one single dime off the record period. When it hit number 1 nor any royalties, Nothing Ever.
The label, Ed Wingate & Joanne (Bratton) Jackson, Golden World Records. Both white and black groups that were signed to them made $0

This is a great interview...but I'm a little confused! Maxine and the dj were playing the FIRST song the Primettes (Supremes) recorded....but it's Diane singing! Alot of people on here have been claiming Flo to be the original lead singer. Somebody help me understand this!

All you need to know is that Smokey has an agenda. He told his OWN WIFE not to accept royalties from Motown; so can he really be trusted?
In any event, maybe after Diane was recruited she did call Smokey on the phone. They were friends, she had no reason not to. But the story about Milton Jenkins seeing Flo on the steps and trying her out for the Primes, and then Flo suggesting her friend Mary, and then one of the Primes suggesting Diane, has been corroborated many times over by many sources.

I can't believe this.......Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Dianna Ross, and Puffy, JayZ and others are a part of this Record Business.... What's going back to the Hood???? What about each artist you rip off because you started "Motown"? That been your excuse for years. Please

I heard that Diane selected the name. Flo didn't like it because it sounded too masculant. Not sure if this is a fact though but did hear Flo B say it on an recorded interview played by the show unsung.

Why do people made a big deal out of the fact that Flo chose the name of The Supremes for the group. That didn't automatically mean that she should have been the lead of the group or anything. One could also say that Diana was the one that asked Smokey to get them an audition for Motown. There would not have been a name if there had not been an audition. Make sense? It's six in one hand and a half dozen in the other. I'm not taking anyones side, I'm just being sensible about the whole thing.
