An aerial gunnery video filmed by US Navy Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Antonio Turretto Ramos and Lt. Ken Petkunas, shows a Navy helicopter door shooting down target drones in a live-fire exercise at the United States Navy Rotary Wing Weapons School.

explain that to the wife when hes trembling from heavy metal / lead poisoning from the residue that kicks up in his face as a door gunner, I'v met a few AC-130 operators and door gunners that are living in a real hell right now because they loved their job.
@@systemspecchecker LOL. Do you think it just applies to air? You actually have more air moment in both. Ground gunners have it worse. Everything can kill or injury you in the military. I lost friends in training as well in combat. I usually had some sort of face protect like a shemagh or balaclavas pulled down. Unlike the virus they actually can stop lead if you clean them regularly. As for the AC-130 i know they get their blood tested for heavy metals at least once a year. Guess you were the Debbie Downer of the unit.

That styrofoam is bad enough my friend, but the lithium batteries that power those things, are so far beyond the damage the foam produces, it makes the foam out to be a smorgasbord or a "grade A" seafood buffet, for the sea foods food!!

the point of this isn't to 'shoot down drones', it's to give the gunner practice shooting at things... if the 'military' wants to shoot down a drone, there are much better ways of doing it..

believe it or not the paperwork for returning ammo makes it preferable to shoot more then you need to. something to do with the armory tracking inventory and returning ammo makes it irregular or some shit.
@@flounder2760 you are correct, say for example you order 3’000 rounds of 7.62 those rounds get distributed and taken into the field, if each guy gets say 5-6 belts of ammo depending on the length of the belt can be 100 could be 200 but the problem arises when everyone returns half belts back, they have to be disassembled rounds counted and then replenished, when you finish the box the armoury knows the specs for the weapon which they simple write down replenishment for 1 box to which they have “belts for days”

So these guys actually are Rescue swimmers that you see on the gun, however you are thinking of the Sierra side that performs the majority of search and rescue (SAR) ops

Looks like this guy is not a fan of using sights
A sight on a door gunner is completely useless. He leads his shot because he is shooting from a moving position, and if you need a sight to see the target, you are too far away to accurately hit it.

I used to teach this in the RAF and a sight is of no use what so ever apart from putting the end of the barrel in the ball park.
We used a 7.62 GPMG out of the door of a Puma and even at 40 its straight and level using 1 in 1 or 1 in 4 tracer it is massively difficult to achieve anything other than keeping heads down. The idea is to walk the tracer onto the target but the dynamics involved of a moving platform, differing ballistic characteristics between ball and tracer and using a weapon that was only ever designed to be a ground suppressive fire weapon it's bloody difficult, great fun but bloody difficult.

Wrong, but thanks for playing. Took i think 9 or 10 bursts to get on target. Didn't even use the sights, let alone even look down the top of the gun. Should have been on target within the 2nd or 3rd burst. Smh

Cool to see our job getting a little flare of attention, the MH-60R sounds like a great platform to fly in. In my opinion probably the more fun side to being an Aviation Rescue Swimmer are our gun shoots i hear.

@@PS-zu5ww wind plays a factor in where the bullet goes so aiming down a sight would miss every shot. They use a specific technique to lead the targets
Cameras are typically not very good at picking up tracers in bright daylight, so that might be it.

We may or may not carry "drilled" plugs in our pockets for that extra 'oomph' with our spare barrels. ;)

yeah believe it or not shooting a moving vehicle at over 100 yards from a shaking H-60R doing 80 knots with a weapon designed for suppressive groundfire and no tracers is kind of difficult. I can understand that you were confused because call of duty makes it look super easy.

Tracers work both ways, makes more sense to suppress and move away. Typically they are not counting on hitting much, just suppression as the bodies of most helicopters are paper thin.
Brohemeth i think with precision exercises like this they don’t just play a suppressive fire role. They’re meant to land accurate hits on targer
Yes but accurate suppressive fire is important, and to train accordingly I could see precision exercises with no tracers being used to dial in aiming in that capacity, as that would make more sense in an combat environment
@@aaron1719 this is not supressive fire bor training for it. He is training to hit drones. Shooting at target like this where both you and the target move is very, very hard thing and unless target is flying straight and with no changes in speed it is nearly impossible. Using tracer rounds would help immensely.

aerial gunnery, you want no sights, because that just makes your field of view smaller. Open sights and tracers are the best thing. Bring the flying red things to the other flying thing.
