    The U.S. Marine Corps' Navy Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) unmanned vehicles autonomous tests conducted from February 2021 through February 2022.
    The NMESIS is the U.S. Marine Corps’ first Ground Based Anti-Ship Missile capability, the U.S. Navy’s latest anti-ship missile, the Naval Strike Missile (NSM), mounted atop the chassis of an unmanned variant of the Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).
    It can operate in both autonomous and teleoperated modes, and the fire control system that fires the missile is completely separate from all of the self-driving and autonomy.
    The initial set of launchers will be deployed to Marine Littoral Regiment by the end of 2023.

    • @Xcerptshow
      @Xcerptshow Рік тому +2

      One thing they will provide in the near term is the follow feature. You could have a convoy of 5 of these following 1 human driver. Once they reach their location they could setup and fire missiles or just sit dormant until a target approaches. The driver lead vehicle could emplace one at a series of points along a defensive position.
      As they sit waiting for orders they dont require any external support until their fuel is low. They could also be programmed to move short distances so the enemy cant spot them one day on a satellite and blow them up the next. Humans would require daily(not delivered daily, but most likely on a much shorter schedule) food, water and shelter. Humans would also require at least 2 people to manage these for 24hr operations.
      The tech is not just for their direct impact, but also their indirect impact on the supply lines to support them. These things could possibly sit dormant for weeks with no need of resupply that is huge when waging a war. The Marines are currently completely changing their force structure to manage this supply line issue. You can also see this as all branches of the US military are starting to field laser based weapons(these do exist Navy and Army are field testing). Lasers dont require ammo. Another thing you dont need to deliver with the supply lines. The biggest supply issue now is fuel to power all these things. The military is working on that with portable small nuclear reactors(these are in the prototype phase). There is a grand vision and these are just little bits.
