How to treat acne, what to do before seeing a dermatologist?
Acne is a part of life; however, most patients would grow out of this condition in their early 20s. If you have persistent acne, you may need to see your dermatologist for treatment. Here are some helpful hints to try before seeing a dermatologist.
    1. Cleanses. Use a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type. If you have dry sensitive skin with acne and blackheads, consider using a simple cleanser such as Cetaphil. If you can tolerate exfoliants, try salicylic acid 2% in a cleanser. Additionally, vitamin A products can help. Other topicals to consider include alpha hydroxy acids.
    Product recommendations include
    1. Cetaphil cleanser.
    2. Neutrogena scrub salicylic acid 2%.
    3. Vitamin A products including the ordinary, Environ and Aspect Dr.
    2. Makeup. It is important that you let your skin breathe for at least 18 hours of the day. Ideally, if you can go without makeup for one to two days especially over the weekends, this will help your skin breathe and unclog pores. As always if you are choosing a makeup, look for the words non-comedogenic. Additionally, makeup such as mineral makeup should be used instead of oil-based foundations.
    3. Diet and supplements. It is well known that diet can modulate acne. As a guide, stick with foods which have a low glycaemic index. Choose unrefined foods over refined foods. Try to eliminate sugars and also dairy. There are numerous supplements that have been reported to help with acne; however, the most consistent and recognised is that of zinc. You can find zinc sulfate at your health food shop. Try a double dose of zinc every day coupled with an acne-free diet and you should see some response in the majority of patients.
    4. Microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion will work for certain forms of acne including blackheads, whiteheads and skin congestion. Microdermabrasion will not work well for some forms of acne including cystic acne as well as adult female jawline hormonal acne. I personally prefer hydrafacial as this is a gentle exfoliator which can be customised to the patient. Hydrafacial can have a profound effect on congested skin as it removes dead skin cells and also can infuse the skin with various actives if needed.
    5. Light therapy. Have you ever noticed that acne improves when you go to the beach? This is because light activates chemicals which are secreted by bacteria-causing acne. This in turn causes a chemical reaction which cures the bacteria. The wavelengths of light which help kill bacteria include blue light at around 430 nm as well as red light at around 620 nm to 630 nm. Sensible sunlight in patients with type 3 skin can help decrease bacterial counts; however, a more precise methodology is to use medically prescribed wavelengths. I prefer the use of Healite or Omnilux blue. Ideally, when one sees a dermatologist, we like to combine light with prescribed topical vitamin A.
If the above does not work help, consult a medical derrmatologist as soon as possible. Early treatment of acne will help reduce or prevent acne scars.
Thanks for watching, remember to turn on the notifications bell for upcoming videos.

BONUS: When to consider seeing a dermatologist for acne treatment?
    1. IF your acne is scarring
    2. IF OTC treatments do not work
    3. IF you have cystic acne
Disclaimer: I am a procedural and laser dermatologist and hence I DO NOT manage acne medically. I do however work with colleagues who are MEDICAL dermatologists and will take
the initiative to refer you accordingly if I deem that medical treatment is in your best interest.

i had way more success with my acne changing diet. fasting and eliminating a lot of dairy, preprocessed foods and sugar helped. none of the topical items helped me at all.
dairy is the worst. i can generate acne on demand by eating a pizza or a milkshake.

I didn't realize how much dairy contributed to my acne!! As soon as I cut it out, or at least limited it to maybe once a week for ice cream or something, my pimples cut down by 90%. And I was one of those people that always made fun of others who said they were "dairy intolerant" or "allergic to gluten" or something. But my skin doesn't lie! Dairy didn't play well with my body

@Aleksandra Kowalczyk Acne is pretty individual though, and while the elimination method works for many people, it doesn't work for everyone. Also, this type of lifetsyle change isn't accessible or realistic for everyone, due to socioeconomic factors. But yes, I agree, if it's possible for you, changing your diet/lifestyle habits should be your first line of defense before all sorts of topical or oral treatments. Your acne might improve, but you'll also feel better and improve your health.

Hillary, I was watching Dr. Dray’s video and she said that they can be applied in the same routine. But when you start differin, use it alone for a few weeks to give your skin time to get used to it and then incorporate Benzoyl Peroxide with it. There’s actually a prescription drug with these two ingredients combined called “Epiduo”, I think.

It’s been about 3 months and my acne is gone besides the hormonal pimples I get from my period, but I don’t worry about those. Cerave cleanser, their moisturizer and benzoyl peroxide have been a life saver. I’m now introducing aha/bha’s, niacinamide, and vitamin c to help with the hyperpigmentation I’m left with.

Great!!😊 info. I've been dealing with acne for yrs . I'm thinking its hormonal and a combination of other things because it flairs up will I'm ovulating. Seen a dermatologist and was given a course of doxycycline which work but the next mth those fine heats where back. Diet helps. But not completely. I've been seeing videos on fungal acne from you tubers. It would be great to get a professional's take on it . Can u give us a video on fungal acne please. 😊

This is a brief but useful guide. I would suggest this acne guide *AcneCureOnline. Com* to my friends starting out on their journeys to clear skin, removing acne. Very much enjoyed reading this and appreciated the awareness into how my inside troubles can affect my skin.

If someone is interested in salicylic acid the one from the ordinary is really good. And the glycolic acid is amazing! All the products are extremely cheap

I was a non believer of this product. Once I was getting acne conditions, I decided to give this acne guide *AcneCureOnline. Com* a try. It worked for me. Within 1 week, I can notice the results. I now have a better and clearer face.

Hi Doctor, my skin type is combination. I have acne from last 10 months. I didn’t use any kind of for acne. So finally I saw lots of review about the ordinary products that’s why I order some. I buy the ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%, AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution, salicylic Acid 2% and niacinamide 10% + zinc 1%. Doctor is it ok for acne ?

Aye pimplin! (Snl reference) I use plain hydrogen peroxide in the brown bottle. It works better than anything I've ever used. I wish I'd known about this when I was a teenager. Cutting out wheat and sugar works for me too.

Never had skin issue before, but I tried to eat spicy Korean ramen and I had the worse reaction on my skin. Now it's been a month since I have acne on my chick. I saw Retinol was a remedy option so I've got the Retinol 1% in Squalene, by ordinary, but it didn't work. In fact, it made the acne go bigger. So I stopped. I've been using the tea tree oil and the puffiness went down, but I still have them. Dunno what to do

Can you talk about Acanthosis nigricans? I’ve this skin condition . I did go to my primary doctor a long time ago when I was probably 15-16 (I’m 19) . I had a wellness checkup done . She’s like do you know what you have ? I was like yeah I do .
When I eat sugar , I’m so sensitive to it my skin starts to itch and the velvety spots get darker . I’ve been using Palmer fade cream to lighten it up .
    Love from the USA ❤️❤️❤️
