As much as Steve's character created some of the chaos in this classic series, Carl, Laura, Eddie, Rachel and even Harriet sometimes created some of the situations that put themselves in the "line of fire" or played a part in the chaos that Steve unintentionally caused.
Harriet: 'It's dangerous to wake a sleepwalker.' Carl: 'Oh, not a problem. I think that I can kill him without waking him up.' I lost it on that one. Hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Carl never shot people, but rather convinced them not to make situations much worse and getting them to surrender peacefully. He was scared straight because Urkel repeatedly hit him in the head with a rolled up newspaper last night. Harriette confronted him for the deed in attacking Carl with a rolled up newspaper. He was confused by this since he always considered Carl to be more of a dad to him and loves Laura. Harriette pointed out that he was sleepwalking all last night. Steve realized it was why he woke up at a convenience store and notices it's a problem that needs treatment.
I don't know how come Carl didn't go behind Steve downstairs to lock the door when Steve went home. He just closed his bedroom door and put a chair against the knob.
This idea was probably borrowed from the 1970's series "The Odd Couple". In one episode, Oscar was sleepwalking into Felix's room and hitting him with a newspaper. Of course, "Family Matters" added a few touches of their own, so it was a well-done episode.
