Amy does have an established purpose that already has been shown in Sonic Adventure 2. It is to spread love and to show kindness. We have seen that a lot lately but it can play a crucial role in convincing Shadow to help Sonic just like in Sonic Adventure 2. There can also be other opportunities she can play in roles when it comes to empathy although I do agree that she does not NEED to be in Sonic Movie 3, she does not have to be excluded either.

Counter argument. Movie Sonic is a LOT more open about his emotions than game Sonic ever will be. Jeff Folwer stated that this movie will be about loss, how one deals with grief.
Movie Sonic wears his heart on his sleeve. The second he peiced together what happend with Knuckles tribe, how his own loss was connected to that. He immediately reaches out, arms open in understanding and empathy.
We do not need a character like Amy to show empathy in Movie 3, we simply already have one. Has Amy lost a family member before? I know she had that whole plotline in sa1, but can that really compare to Sonic and Shadow's loss?
Shadow having to see his sister get shot and bleed out, Sonic having to see his adopted mother be hunted down.
Both of them are forced to run or escape, told not to look back, to live on for the other for some greater purpose.
Both to bring peace to the world, both being very powerful. Sonic and Shadow, in general, are designed to parallel each other while being pollar opposites, but also be incredibly similar where it counts. This movie doesn't need Amy to do that job, having to establish a character like her when you already need to establish someone like Shadow.
Shadow's lore is HUGE!
Alongside making sure the rest of the insanely large cast gets their time to shine, it's just illogical.
And again, this movie isn't gonna be a 1 to 1 of sa2. It's an *adaptation* of sa2. Sa2 is more of a Sonic and Shadow game than I'd argue SonicxShadow gens will be! That's their title, their songs, their shared story. They could easily fill all of Amy's honestly replaceable roles in with other characters, most notably Sonic himself.
A big complaint was how in Movie 2, it felt more like a Sonic movie than Sonic 1. Good, right?
Absolutely! But with the draw back being Sonic wasn't nearly as much of a focus as he was in movie 1. A movie that didn't feel like a Sonic movie but was a fantastic movie *with* Sonic as the star.
Movie 3 has the perfect chance to find the best middle ground of this. Not having to sacrifice either for the other.
If anyone's being added, it should be Rouge. But depending on how things play out, movie Shadow could be okay without her. I'd prefer her over Amy cause her role in the movie is way less replaceable.
Everything Amy does in sa2 could be replaced by a movie character. When she reminds Shadow of what Maria said it's cause of what MARIA said, not that it was Amy who said it. Amy was just chosen for that role because she's very compassionate. But like I said, so is movie Sonic!
The jailbreak scene could just be Tails alone, maybe even Tails with Knuckles. Everything else Amy doesn't doesn't advance the plot.
I mean she's a hostage twice, but the story isn't gonna be a 1 to 1. They could use someone else to be hostage or simply just...go a different story direction. Only keeping the most important plot beats of sa2 and mix them in with their own original plot beats.
Amy is completely unnecessary for this movie. She should be saved for a 4th or 5th movie that's based off of CD. That way her AND Metal can make an appearance and not have it be rushed.

Also like I said in my initial comment, I do agree Amy doesn't NEED to be in it but it doesn't mean she has to be excluded from the movie either
That is a very good point you brought up about sonic. But also keep in mind that sonics teajic past isn't anywhere in the games like Amy so they could bring something up for Amy in the movie if they choose to bring her in
We got tails and knuckles established in sonic movie 2 so one more character is not anything different

A sonic cd movie would be the best thing to come and I would watch that. Also if that were to happen that would be the best case scenario for Amy rose to appear and metal sonic

to be honest narratively, it would’ve made sense that they only have shadow and maybe rouge so that when shadow and sonic eventually team up egg man will need another person to work for him, which would give him the leeway to create metal sonic and sense the sonic movies are usually based on one to two games could be a clean way to add Amy and other characters in the movie after that
If they introduced her in 2 or at the end of one like she could’ve come with tails or something then it would’ve been fine but if they add her in the 3rd movie it would’ve been slightly forced in

They will force romance in it if she is added. Although SEGA is very strict about it being a one-sided relationship and has recently retcon the idea altogether. So either SEGA doesn't allow her to be in the movie specifically to avoid Sonic having a love interest, or they submit to Paramount and force a romantic interest, or SEGA has enough power to force Paramount into not allowing Sonic to have romantic feelings. After typing that I am starting to suspect that some want her in purely for them to be together romantically. But that is my guess

Amy doesn't just stalk sonic, tho it shows to be the gag in the game, she helps the cast of characters even shadow to find a purpose into helping the planet and the people.
If Rouge won't get added, chances are Amy will be added to fill in the Shadow arc gap, because he'll be reminded about Maria and her love for the planet.
Its a 50/50 chance I'll be honest, but even so, Amy could also not be in the movie too.

An amount of people have been writing in UA-cam video comments that they may likely boycott the Sonic 3 movie if Amy and Rouge aren't in it! So it would be a big box office mistake to leave those females out of it. Those people don't want this to be another "boys club" movie!
Amy was the character who reminded Shadow what Maria had truly wanted him to do, and a multitude of the fanbase got soo annoyed when they saw in the Sonic X anime that the writers of it had made it be that that kid Chris Thorndyke would be the character who would be shown reminding Shadow about that instead of her, that dumb mistake of her not doing it should get avoided this time. Also nothing says that they can't have her be shown with some maturity and be a sweet ally to Sonic and the gang instead of being shown with the annoying stalker stupidity that she used to have, and may they NOT make her be a girl boss/mary sue in that movie either!

Okay so like I wanna mention this video, since without her Shadow wouldn't have helped and remember his promise to Maria. She's a bit more than just Sonic's harasser, though I totally understand why people may think that way.

Amy is important Her Words Helped Shadow Realize The Error Of His Ways in sonic adventure 2. I know the movie won't be exactly like in the game but amy role matters and just like @sonicstuffs said her job is to spread kindness. She doesn't have to be in the movie but she is still important and one of the main character like sonic, tails, and knuckles she doesn't just exist. The thing is that she has so much wasted potential so hopefully the movie represents better, and make her have a major role or Opportunities since the character is becoming more mature like in sonic prime and sonic frontiers.

people want Amy and Rouge because there are barely any female characters in the movies, let alone main female characters. Before you say anything, no, Maria doesn't count because she is going to die, and Maddie, while part of the wachowski family, is clearly the one who gets less screentime among the wachowskis, and plus, after the second movie where they're leaning more into game lore, she and Tom have been a liitle less important.
