For the "older guys" over 40, this is still crucial. Many will say to go lighter, don't lift heavy, etc as you get older. As we get older, this is a Great way to train and simply to adjust as per your individual level of physical preparation. Matt, I am psyched for the new manual!
I am in my 60s and feel training for max PRs to be highly beneficial to my overall program. [Naturally, keeping to good form and biomechanical development. Bad development and form will eventually lead to catastrophic outcomes.]
This is f&%king fantastic information. Two weeks in a row you've laid out doctorates level strength and condition methodologies, and presented it in a palatable arrangement that any trainee or trainer can understand. Kudos to you for creating the most real world, legitimate information pipeline , on the web.
Can’t get enough of this channel’s quality content. Hands down the leanest and strongest I’ve ever been since implementing wenning warm ups and conjugate methods. Love the videos. Algo.
Again - another brilliant video with exceptional content for those who truly want to build on their strength. More people need to listen and subscribe to this fantastic man.
I kind of got out of powerlifting the past couple of years due to several things like injuries and depression. Always held this channel and Wenning to a high degree. Such an informative and applicable video. Finished watching the entire podcast of you on Marks channel. So glad to have such a formidable and intelligent person on UA-cam through all the bullshit. Keep it up Matt!
Great video, conjugate method is really interesting. Do you think there is a way to create a block or linear periodization method that uses principles of conjugate like exercise variation in order to avoid accommodation and avoid mileage (I just like experimenting with my training). I really enjoy your content dude
That's exciting to hear. So, last question, what would be an optimal exercise rotation frequency, does it have to be more often if you use the max effort method, or should it be every 2+ weeks if you dont use it?
Another fantastic video!! Learning so much from your videos, honestly i cannot thank you enough for everything that you are sharing. Currently training to join the parachute regiment in the British Army, i have been using strengh training in order to try and bullet proof my body against lower limbs injuries, squats, deadlifts + all the exercises that you recommend on your videos (thanks for this also) For long distance loaded march, based on your experience, does heavy work (rep range between 3-6 reps) the way forwoard to maximise speed and performance? Or should i also incorporate higher reps exercises to build muscular endurance? Exercises such as belt squats, and bulgarian split squats? Im quite small in height, and from what i have read and seen, shorter recruits to tend to strugge a bit more with tabs? Anyway, thank you for your time and all the amazing content that you are sharing keep it going!
Great info as always , I recently had to switch from max effort to rep method after getting very sick from covid . All of my lifts are weak sauce after being sick . When/how would you switch up training after being really sick or some similar circumstances ? Considering you had lost strength and don’t have any completions coming up in a year.
Only thing I don't understand is the weaknesses are nearly always the same within reason. The posterior chain most times always needs catching up. Same with upper back and tris.
@@WenningStrength you might wanna take a look man, the programming has stopped there's not program for next week 🤷🏼♂️ It maybe that it hasn't released so I'm not sure, but generally it's a week or more ahead, forgive me if that's the case
Matt, in a typical session, should we "work up" towards that maximum load? Do you recommend any number of sets before maxing out? Thanks, and I appreciate your channel!
The way I break up my training is one day max effort and one day speed/higher reps. On max effort day i work up to 85-90% single and then alternate 3x5 or 5x5. But my question is my low weight day. I either do a 10x10 squat or 8x5 bench. I know you have talked about speed day in previous videos but how important is my endurance going to be for building my one rep max?
What are your thoughts on this, ive been using the max effort method since i started going to the gym last year, 5x5s on the big 3 rotating every day so day 1 squat, 2 bench 3 deadlift 4 bench 5 squat 6 bench 7 light accessories / rest day, some days ill listen to my body and either cut the weight down or just do accessories and every other month ill take a week off and my numbers have skyrocketed, i started out at (rpe10 max lifts) 315 squat 185 bench 405 deadlift, literally one year later 525 squat 335 bench and 585 deadlift
