Hope it helped :) I was like in the same place...why did Sekonic release something similar but it's completely an upgrade since the glow in the dark LCD screen is super helpful for product photographers like me who shoots in complete darkness and if your a film video shooter the additional information given is helpful :)
Thanks for explaining the difference. Actually you can use the meter as an incident meter for landscape. For instance if the sun is out where you're standing, and also sunny on a distant hillside or building, the brightness of the light will be the same. It's my preferred way of shooting , even when using a Leica M7 with internal meter, though the meter in that camera is very good. I'm not sure about buying used, because as you say, these hand held meters are plastic and also fairly delicate. I've had my 308S for about 8 years, and now it won't reliably turn on from the power button. Agree it's unfortunate they don't make one that's more durable, as otherwise these are about the best and most efficient meters for the price.
Thanks for mentioning. Of course the incident meter can be used for landscape. but hilarious thing every time I think it looks like a great location to shoot im mostly in a shade rolls eyes and incident can be effective especially if the place your standing is exactly the same for the distant subject. Im trying to look for a more accurate spot meter so I could more precisely find the shadow ev (value) and highlights. more things to do and search. but ironically my L308x I have to ship it to maintenance since its kinda giving me odd readings...I will probably make a video on that topic of sending Sekonic to repair in Japan. Honesty about that durability...if sekonic really makes how should I say a waterproof/dustproof meter ipx (something rating like smartphones) and might price it a higher since its made out of metal/alloy material...I have this feeling that it will outsell the L308x (which is entry)
@@RM.TokyoPhotographer Plastic does keep it light weight I suppose… Sorry to hear about having to send it for repair. I just ordered a new L308x- $189 US from an ebay seller in Canada, w/1 year warranty.
Thanks for commenting Unfortunately you can only adjust the aputure or shutter speed/iso If you use filter you have to facter that on top of the readings so if the filter needs 1/3 stops you have to facter that into the meter overexpose by one stop
Thanks for your video, it has been so usefull; i'm looking for one complete hand exposimeter because i use older one with needle (so vintage but usefull too😅) thanks
Im working on video on a specific digital light meter can't say much however it's a game changer from what I can see...but I actually have the needle version sekonic light meter my grandfather used and the old vintage ones don't run on batteries can't believe its still working :)
@@RM.TokyoPhotographer when i study photography , on the studio we use gossen and sekonic like yours on the video; but when you begine are so expensive and the old school material is the good way to evol and know , step by step 😜🙂
Thank yoou for the great review! Do you know how dark it can be for the light meter still working correctly? I mostly shoot indoors under tungsten light and night photography,
If your shooting in a pitch black studio with tungsten lamp if u are far away the LCD glows well if you approach visable light source the LCD doesn't glow I can't say what the difference is in terms of that the light output has to be for the LCD to glow but night photography in most cases it actually glows in the dark. Unless I'm under a lampost it still glows so you won't have any problems with the 308x
Hi Ryo-san, Here in Sydney, Australia, the product is the L308X-U. Would you know if this is essentially the same as the L308X you reviewed? Thanks, Barrie
@@RM.TokyoPhotographer Damn.. no bueno. I've just ordered a used L-308s - it says it's in good condition and was cheap so.. I'll give it a go, hopefully will be of use until Godox release a game changer. I have a feeling they will.. Good luck with your X!
I love the irony of this video, talking about light meters and yet the opening shot is over exposed.
Oh you noticed I like everything over exposed 😂
This is exactly what I needed to know, thank you! ❤

Good points, a great investment indeed, now I need to get me one of theses and shoot. 🎉❤
Thanks your welcome and if your trying flash photography it's also easier to tell instead of guessing and failing many shots :)
Do you know if this can be used to calculate the adjustment needed with filters such as Yellow or Red, or even 720nm IR filter?

Sorry Ryo-san, I’ve just found-out that they are identical! The extra letter is to do with warranty. Barrie
Yup no problem I looked it up the X is international version while the U is United States aimed for that market they are the exact same products :)
Thanks!
Your welcome
That is..... until Godox make one that costs $50 and blows Sekonic out of business. 😎
My sekonic l308x is getting weird metering and I have to send it to get it fixed oh man. A video is coming up probably booo
