I just picked up that Sekonic L308X-U (my first light meter) and your examples are a great help. I'm giving it a whirl in the next couple of days. Thank you!
Well, Adam... you inspired my Speedlight and trigger purchase, now you've done it again. I have been looking at the Sekonic line of meters for a while now. Maybe it's time to make a choice and get one. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Mike. You can't go wrong with the Sekonic light meters. They're pretty much industry standard and the L308x-u will do most things in an small affordable package. Good luck and happy shooting!
Nice, question I have the same light meter and when I am in the flash mode it stars meatier before the flash fires? What’s am I doing wrong I have (2) of the 308 and they both are doing that can’t trust them
This video just inspired me to get a light meter. I am wanting to do more studio flash portrait type work and while researching how to use a light meter I came across a guy talking about lighting ratios. Now where I am at right now I am going to be trying to learn how to use a two flash setup. I thought if maybe you had time, using your light meter, maybe you could make us a series of videos on light ratios and how to get different looks for studio flash portraits and sculpt our subject using those ratios. Maybe starting at a basic one flash then maybe working up to two and then three or more. I would really appreciate the help.
I've been doing photography for almost a year and have dabbled around with using bounce flash. I recently bought some strobes and softboxes. I noticed that certain photographers can have a Perfect Exposure on the subject but yet take the background and make it from white to gray to Black still having a Perfect Exposure on the subject. How do you do this?
I just got my sekonic L-308X-U, but sometimes it does not read my OFC flash.. I don’t know why.. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.. do you think I’m not holding it right?
I agree 100%. Do they not watch the video before they send it out? Do they not hear how loud and obnoxious the music is compared to their voice? Have the music low, IN THE BACKGROUND. Nobody cares what music you have in your video, we just want to hear you clearly without the distraction of the volume of the music competing with your voice. It just makes people not want to finish the video. This is 5 years ago so hopefully he’s learned by now.
f/numbers were poorly thought out IMO. f number =focal_length/D. A stop is double the light. For a focal length of 100mm and a diameter of 50mm, we get f/2. Area of circle is PI*r*r. For 50mm, area is 1962.5. If we halve the circle's area from 1962.5 to 981.25 then D=35.34, or f/2.8. That's a lot of arithmetic. What if they had set a reference number of f/1 for a 50mm lens with a 25mm diameter ( or whatever makes sense), and then each positive increment of 1 was double the light. f/2 is one stop more light than f/1. f/0 is one stop less light. So yeah, no wonder people get it wrong when it's not intuitive or easy to use from the get-go?
Thanks for the video. That music is way too loud. I don't mind background music but it was louder than you were. And it was frustrating trying to hear you. It made me leave the video early

Awesome and thank you!
Does this meter work wirelessly with Godox strobes?

At 4:09 - f16 is 2 stops brighter then f8. Yes, the proper amount (as your great examples show) to bring middle gray to white. :)
Cheers, thank you

I don't know the issue. I've had an original 308 for 15 years without any problems
finally picked up this light meter for my photo assignments wish me luck!!
Congrats and good luck!
Hi have doubt on the flash meter mode an unable to set my shutter more than 100. Can u help
Did the neck strap come with the meter?
Yes, it comes with a small case and long neck strap. The strap really comes in handy.

Glad you're inspired to get a light meter. It really helps take the guesswork out of lighting. Thanks for watching!
Good stuff, thanks Adam!
Thanks Monty!⚡️
Can this Sekonic L-308X trigger Godox Flash?
No, this unit doesnt have a radio trigger built in.
@@AdamLernerPhoto , Have you Tried any Alternative Method to Trigger Godox...
I get what you’re saying but the stats on the two pictures have the same reading so where is the 5.6 f stop picture?
Good call - I must have shown the F/8 image both times

Subject to background distance. Here's my video with the explanation ua-cam.com/video/-RIXIEAYtaQ/v-deo.html

What OFC flash are you using? My only guess is that the flash is too far from your meter? One OFC flash doesn't produce very much flash power.
why do you use music for explaining the light meter? i want to listen about the light meter.
Love my SEKONIC L-758DR.
Nice!
Very good video.
Thank you!
Fark, why do so many put music in the background when they need to be heard talking? You’re not in Hollywood now Toto.

I wanted to watch this but had to stop due to the loud music. A shame because the content looks good.
Yea my bad. 😥
Yeah it is very annoying. I don’t understand the logic behind it. Unless they are promoting some artist.
One stop over F8 --- goes to F11 .. F16 is two stops over F8
Francisco Javier Gomez Yup - see expertphotography.com/understanding-fstops-stops-in-photography-exposure/
i stopped watching when he said F8 + 1 EV is F16
Math is hard

The music is too loud, I can't hear a thing.
Why would you make the music so damn loud? THUMBS DOWN!
It wasn’t my intention to be too loud. I did get other comments about it. Thanks for watching. Most of my other videos are without music. Cheers.

Quit watching within 15 seconds. The music.
Hi Rick, yes, it was my bad to mix the music poorly. If you can get past it, there is some good content in the video. Cheers
What is astonishing is that a light meter can cost as much as DSLR 😂
Lasted 47 seconds before I turned the racket off.

The music is a bit to loud, and in my opinion not necessary.
It would be better if you wouldn't talk, it makes difficult to list the music
yea yea yea, this video was made MANY years ago and EVERYONE already mentioned the music
@@AdamLernerPhoto Actually, I was joking, kind of sarcastic humour 😉
