I worked at CFB ALERT in 1977. The runway was frozen gravel. They couldn’t pour a runway because of the permafrost. We had a herc come in once a week to resupply. It was always welcome foe news and letters to the guys stationed there 6 months.
They need to modernize the fleet 737-200’s and MD-88f’s you can find low time 727-200’s that were VIP with low low hours and concert them to Freighters and MD-88’s they have 600 of them parked there are enough spare parts and engines to last 30 years
Spent 13 years working for a 135/121 operation in Fairbanks AK throughout the 90's, every shop had several mechanics, but there were always only one or two mechanics in each shop that could really made things happen and get things done.
"I've got to go work on the Electra. I don't know anything about them...." Never any mention of formal training. Never a mention of licenced engineers or licences. I wonder if the local garage mechanic could do an engine change for them? Really makes me wonder after spending all my working life in the aircraft maintenance..
