  • Milwaukee added an expandable tool to their outdoor power tool lineup. This new modular tool head system, dubbed Quik-Lok will offer more options to come in the future!
The new Milwaukee Quik-Lok multi-head power tool system is part of the M18 Fuel cordless battery platform. Like other systems on the market the power head, powered by an M18 Fuel brushless motor, allows for interchangeable tool attachments to be swapped for different tasks. This allows users to purchase attachments based on the needs of the user and can decrease the investment in multiple tools. But is this system right for you?
Currently, the Milwaukee Quick-Lok system has 4 separate tools and an extension.
    String Trimmer
    --14″ to 16″ cutting swath
    --.080/0.095″ line diameter
    --Available as a kit (2825-21ST) for $329 amzn.to/2PvtdlO
--Available as a bare tool (2825-20ST) for $229
--Available as an attachment (49-16-2717) for $109
    Pole Saw
    --10″ bar length
    -- 3/8" Chain
    --Available as a kit (2825-21PS) for $399
--Available as an attachment (49-16-2720) for $164 amzn.to/2Vnmksh
    Edger
    --8″ blade size
    --38″ length
--Available as an attachment (49-16-2718) for $109
    Hedge Trimmer
    --20″ blade length
    --1″ cut capacity
    --60″ length
    --13 operating positions
--Available as an attachment (49-16-2719) for $164 amzn.to/2W6ULk0
    3′ Attachment Extension (49-16-2721) for $54
The extension is included if you buy the pole saw if you buy it as a kit, but is also available separately for use with the hedge trimmer and pole saw attachment.
The kits come with the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Quik-Lok power head, the specified attachment (string trimmer or pole saw with extension), a multi-voltage rapid charger, and (1) HD 9.0Ah battery.
You can purchase a quick detach shoulder strap (49-16-2722) for $20.
Replacement 10″ pole saw chain (49-16-2723) are available for $18.

I just bought this trimmer edger system and my only dislike was the string head. I took it off and put on a weed thrasher head and it turned it into an awesome trimmer. I have never been a fan of the string trimmer heads and the jamming and twisting up of the string in the head. I have had the weed thrasher on my old gasoline Echo trimmer and its awesome on there also. As far as im concerned the weed thrasher is the best trimmer head on the market and it just makes the Milwaukee trimmer just that much better of a machine than with the factory head. Thanks for the demo you pretty much said the same as what I thought of the milwaukee system. Im just hoping that they are going to come out with a mini tiller that I can use to till between the rows in my garden LOL

Have this unit with the trimmer head attachment and the pole saw attachment, I have used the pole saw a bunch and it is awesome, works great from the ground up over head and the hook is nice to be able to pull small branches out that get stuck once cut. BUT the battery has a 3 yr warranty or 2000 charges, they scanned the battery and gave me a new XC 8.0Ahr battery and that battery is a BEAST. it can outlast two of my XC 5.0Ahr batteries on my 4.5" grinder on long brutal jobs. The 30 min rapid charger has my XC8 battery fully charged well before my two XC5 Batts are worn down. These batteries have warranties and Milwaukee has been solid in backing anything I've had a problem with.

I also have the older string trimmer and I am here to tell ya that the newer unit is faster than the older unit ( string trimmer ) and it seems to have more power as well. Pole saw is great , as is the hedge trimmer. Kudos to Milwaukee for not rushing to get this system out ahead of everyone else and taking the time to get it right.
Thanks for addressing the voltage concerns , Milwaukee gets plenty of current out of these batteries to run these small brushless motors.

Great review! I agree with you on pretty much every point. I've been a happy M18 system owner since the first compact drill driver in the mid-2000's. I'm so glad Milwaukee is finally taking a serious approach in their outdoor power equipment sector! I've been holding out for a few years to make the jump from 2-stroke to battery in hopes they would do something like this. This kit does not disappoint!
I bought the trimmer/edger combo during the Home Depot Spring Black Friday deal. Like you said in the review, the power delivery is outstanding! I have also been pleasantly surprised by the included string. For the past 15 years I have been using the same Stihl FS85 trimmer. It was a trusty workhorse that helped me earn a little spending money in high school; but honestly it was a little overkill for my small suburb yard now. My first impressions are that this Milwaukee kit is going to be a perfectly adequate replacement for the old Stihl. And without the noise, clutter, and hassle of the 2-stroke lifestyle.

I first got into the M18 line when I got a drill kit. I charged it up and used it and thought it was a very nice piece of equipment.
It was weeks of home-owner use later when it hit me: I haven't had to recharge this thing yet.
I went ahead and bought a few more pieces. I have the hand-held blower (on fast that will eat up a 5.0 battery pretty quickly) and a circular saw as well. Everything has been really solid for me.
I'd love to pick up the power head and accessories one day, but I have a gas power head with trimmer/edger attachments already (Echo) and it's hard to justify the spend to replace working equipment.

I can keep one trimmer in the back of the house.3. ).130 string in the Robin for serious weed clearing.4. It's a system and I needed a battery-powered edger.5. I already had three HD12.0 batteries and one HD6.0.

The only attachments that cost less than $100 are the shoulder strap ($30) and the 3-foot extender ($75). $120 edger; $120 string trimmer attachment (for owners who started with a different kit); $160 pole saw: $170 hedge trimmer. I concur with nearly everything you found in your review. I'm not getting the trigger thing though. Is it the difference between a gas unit with a centrifugal clutch that you can feather? Clearly there is no clutch on these power heads. I didn't even notice it and feel the turtle mode works great when you are trying not to damage bark or paint or wood posts/fence. The edger is awesome. Just as powerful as my Echo gas stick edger. The first edge of the year was digging like your deep stuff. Now that the edge is established, it's as fast as I can walk. Pole saw and hedge trimmer are also of equal quality. In short, this OPE kit is awesome. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Gas stuff is going on Craigslist.

I like these battery powered trimmers and such however, the one thing I'm concerned about is longevity of the battery and tool platform. In other words, in 5 to 8 years will this platform still be around and batteries still available? I've been using the same gas powered trimmer and chainsaws for well over 10 years with basically zero issues lest for normal wear and tear and maintenance. Additionally I work my tools to the max and I'm still on the wait and see end of things for cordless. I have 20 wooded acres to care for during the Spring, Summer and Fall and my gas powered tools keep working great. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

There's so much momentum (sold so many) behind both DeWalt and Milwaukee lines now that these batteries will be available for a long long time. I'm sure if they upgrade the technology they will still fit the old tools.
If you've got 20 acres you're probably better off with gas. I've got 10 acres and still use my Stihl gas saw if I need to do serious work or cut firewood, but I like the battery tools for around the house.

Why exactly? It seems like the DeWalt 20v/60v Flexvolt batteries allow more cordless tool options (e.g., running up to 120v with two 60v batteries). Milwaukee batteries are 18v (if I'm not mistaken) and I'm not aware of options to run larger tools (e.g., table saw) on the same battery platform.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  5 років тому

It feels like the Milwaukee's is more powerful with the edger. We all know that power can be had from gearing and not just motor watts. with that said, this year we are edging early and the area is wet and compacted from the bobcats from last years bobcats. You can watch last years video on the EGO in the same area and watch the dry dirt move a lot easier. The EGO ate an 5.0 Ah battery while edging. The Milwaukee did not and allowed me to string trim completely on the same battery. I need to get these two side by side in the same soil conditions. I dislike the slow speed on the EGO as it is too slow. These two are similar but Milwaukee has some magic going here by making this much power and having the runtime. Does it have to do with gearing and the % of load on the motor?

@@sprockkets - I'm a commercial user. Much of my decision is based on warranty. EGO has a 1 year commercial warranty. Ryobi is 90 days.
I had decided over the winter to go with Milwaukee because they had (I'm almost positive) a flat 5 year warranty, residential or commercial. Makita, the only other brand I was seriously considering, was 3 years. The two were so close in price that I didn't care too much if Milwaukee was more. I wanted the longer warranty. Now I'm ready to buy and I see Milwaukee's warranty is 3 years. So I'm shopping Makita and they have offers that include extra batteries, so I can get their dual battery power head with 4 batteries. If I buy Milwaukee, I've got to spend hundreds on extra batteries
I was also hoping Milwaukee would come out with a mower, but no such luck. Lots to consider.
