The best blues guy of the bunch. Great phrases, timing is in the pocket, well intonated, best tone, and is playing pure blues not shred blues or slash rock blues.

Max Wilson I'd practice touch and expression. Playing a blues scale is simple but makin that blues scale communicate feelings is a whole other thing...thanks for your question!

Claudio Tristano I've been looking at several of these videos and you were the best I have seen so far. Great feel. And your tone was fatter than most. Some folks' tone sounds like vermicelli and some sound like the fat spaghetti. I like the fat spaghetti...yours was the fat spaghetti.

I've watched both matt hines and claudios rendition of this and while I do like matts version, Claudio kills it for me; maybe joe doesn't like competitors.
No competition. Not even a second runner up. We have better players at our local blues jam. Joe is a well versed guitarist and a master blues player. This guy isn't. But he does look good.

Yep, should definitely have won. I'm not sure I've heard every single player, about 7 so far. Also, I've only heard via UA-cam and a small speaker. I understand tone isn't everything, as you have to use that tone, but I think maybe you have to have a decent tone to sing. Fast notes or weird notes aren't better.
Hey, I don't profess to be any better than ANY of the finalists, but the little I have got, goes a long way. Well that's my opinion and I am quite objective.
