    To me, Chris is the John Carmack of VST programming. This guy is a bona fide genius.

    Geez, you know what would be amazing? Is if we had a sort of master plugin to build channel strips out of AW plugins. That way we could utilize a variety of different filter topographies from all throughout the library all in one place with all the visual and processing advantages of everything happening in one place. Also, I'm really deeply excited about this upcoming CLAP deal, very exciting stuff. There are many many advantages to working that way IMO

    Thanks Chris. Your desk endcaps and arm rest look nice. I feel like this plugin will be a winner, people like channel strips.

      I refurbished the armrest myself! It's San Francisco Caramel upholstery vinyl from a JoAnn Fabrics that was going out of business. Wore out the previous black vinyl over the years. Studio furniture is nice to have :)

      You know its funny you say "People like channel strips" I've always been of the opposite persuasion, thought i've noticed others very much do like them. I think my thought when i formed this idea/preference/habit was that I felt placing all that dsp in one place when i wasn't necessarily going to need/want it there was unwise, i wanted to be able to sort of distribute the filtering and saturation all along the fx path, rather than having a ton all in one place. One reason i was very excited when i found Airwindows was that i figured it helped me achieve that by giving me one wildly unique filter/saturation/compression at a time in a way that i could distribute my cuts in creative ways. Now, i don't mean to say that was a bad thought, it definitely has been an interesting way to work, and I've found many novel mixing techniques that will stick with me. But now, watching this video, I'm realizing that initial thought was formed so many years ago that i might need to balance it out now. Back then i wanted to limit my processing because of a budget computer while also finding a signature sound, but nowadays i dont need to limit that processing power so much, and i have no trouble coming up with unique sounds, even with far less plugins running, in fact i often find i end up chewing things a bit too much once i have a full mix because i go back to tweak these long fx paths after adding new sounds in, and i can't quite wrangle them in as easily as if i had just used a Cstrip at one plcae in the path. TLDR; I'm gonna try and use Cstrip2 a lot, its best to constantly challenge your personal assumptions. Mixing is life, you learn a lot, and it says a lot about you how you mix. I've become cluttered and overly complicated lol

    Chris, what can I say? This sounds GREAT!! I am so going to start using as many of your plugins as I can, as they are great with so little cpu takeup. Thank You. NB- Thank you for demoing this with a solid retro rock sound, it's great.

    BTW, thanks for Boost. There's a reference recording (IMO) of Shostakivich Sym. #4 with Järvi. What almost annoyed me, in the end it asks for massive timpany rumble, but in this recording it sounds weak.
    So, Reaper, Weight and a bit of automation: Not any more 👍👍👍

    How would you emulate an opto-style vocal compressor? Not really emulate but just make one from nothing
    Your plugins are the best but you haven’t got an opto style compressor in your collection yet.
    If you want a specific recommendation I’d go with the tube tech CL1B, that’s what I’m after but the plug-in version from softube just doesn’t sound the same, and I can’t afford the real thing xD

    • @airwindows
      @airwindows  Рік тому

      Pretty sure I would need to get a real one and find a place where I needed to use specifically that, so I had a need for it :) you know, one thing I do have is cds cells and LEDs. So I can in fact make a hardware compressor like that, I just don't know if it would be the same as the real deal ones :)

      @@airwindows Another question, when I heard the songs “Top” and “Right Now” and even “Loaded” by lil uzi vert (I know that’s probably not at all your style of music but it’s mine) I heard right away there’s some sort of tubeyness to it. Maybe less on “loaded” but it’s definitely prevalent on the other 2 songs. Does that just come from really good mastering in really good studios? Genuinely asking because there’s a sort of tube quality going on and it sounds really cool. Makes you want to dance to it etc which is why I am assuming it’s just a matter of proper mastering and monitoring, etc.
      Or maybe if there’s anything specific that you have made / can make that can really give you that sound and just vibe of those songs (I’m guessing it’s just usage of stuff like console and channel, buss colors etc to get that analog tone and everything) but I would love to get your take on it
      Thanks Chris

    Interesting. Would the typical pan and vol controls need dithering to get almost the same results as your current unit? Just trying to grasp the math concept. The world needs a DSP for Dummies book, and Reaper a JS documentation.

    • @airwindows
      @airwindows  Рік тому

      Depends on whether they're running a double precision audio buss. I didn't find that long double was necessary (barely gets you anything more) but do find running double precision audio words is necessary. If everything is doubles throughout you don't have to dither every calculation because quantization is too far away from where you're working.

    Hey Chris, awesome work! Can this be used in combination with console8lite? For example, Cstrip2 at the top of the channel and Console8lite channel at the end?

    whats that thing about trapping energy in the high cap? I dont really get it. does it mean i always have to turn down the slider when nothing is playing?

    • @airwindows
      @airwindows  9 місяців тому +1

      With a filter that can be set to 0 hz (total bypass of the high cap) you should either leave it at zero, or have it at a setting and use it: don't be using it on audio, change your mind, and then try to set it to 0 hz (off) while sound is playing. Or you can be telling it 'whatever is in this filter, keep it forever' which can mean keeping a voltage in there.

    • @nhrlyn
      @nhrlyn 8 місяців тому

      @@airwindows thanks for the clarification. is it possible to code it so that it just shuts back off and clears its cache again when set back to 0?

    Hello Chris, I had a question about Console 8. I was wondering if it is possible to use the VST without putting the ChannelIn and ChannelOut plugins on the main tracks and only using the plugin on my submixes and mix bus?

    • @ramspencer5492
      @ramspencer5492 Рік тому +1

      It is totally based on the relationships of as many instances as possible. The fewer tracks and instances included, the less you hear an effect. It's not about changing the sound very much. It's about virtual summing.... Of many channels
