I think you guys criminally underrate Doppleganger. Judge all you want- I laughed for like 5 minutes when they sincerely couldn't tell Andy and Horatio apart. I still love that sketch.
Seth Myers: "imagine it's October 2001" Mike schur: "it's October 2001? Well there's anthrax in the building we have to leave" Dude that was such a quick witted and hilarious response that it made me think ”ahhh yes, this is why parks and rec, the good place & Brooklyn 9-9 are among my all time favorite comedies". Well done schur.
I started doing a count of "I should note" and "I will say" In the comments on every podcast and late night clip Seth did but it just got so exhausting I couldn't even pay attention to the actual thing.
I think they missed the best part of laser cats. The "sketch in a sketch" of 2 guys bothering lorne with increasingly bigger bait. Laser cats is criterion. All 7 in as 1 spot. Its own subcategory
It's like the Marvel 18 year arc. It's the whole thing that is impressive. They took the dumbest idea ever and rode that pony to the damn moon. Lonely Island in a nutshell.
Hearing Michael Shur aver his fandom and state the importance of The Lonely Island to SNL and comedy in general is so fucking validating to a die hard fan like me. Love the pod.
36:05 United Way is a top ten all time SNL experience- this was before the Mannings were omnipresent, and hearing him toss his squeaky-clean image away in 3 minutes was a revelation. I laughed my ass off.. and it still holds up! Peyton cussed those kids out sooo fluently
What these slightly older guys don’t realize is when Laser Cats came out us younger guys had been making videos like that in high school with our friends. And now one of them was actually on SNL! It was like one of us made the big time and maybe the rest of us could too
Yes! They keep mentioning how the Lonely Island was a sea change for comedy, yet can't see how Laser Cats epitomizes everything about that generational shift. Making goofy shit with your friends isn't just the concept of Laser Cats, it's the Lonely Island as a whole.
I personally think the guys should be in attendance for the next criterion episode! Also that Laser Cats and People Getting Punched Before Eating are absolutely criterion.
I think it’s very simple. You can’t have one laser cats without the others it’s a collective. Therefore, I argue the Laser Cats Saga should join the criterion as one spot because of their influence and historical value
It's a rarified audience indeed who listen to the podcast, and are fans of Lonely Island and Seth. But unless they also watch Corrections and are part of Jackaldom, they are not really part of the elite. Sorry, Tapper.
Mike Schur made _Parks & Rec_ so I think he’s basically a TV God, and as such, omniscient. Tapper, on the other hand, better consider his words and actions very carefully.
@@delray8762 My Testicles is on equal footing with Xavier: Renegade Angel, the Tim & Eric œuvre and the works of Neil Cicierega as a formative reason my sense of humor is so goddamn weird and I will love it forever for that. It's Criterion in my heart.

Correction for Seth's Seinfeld sketch: The iconic bass line for the Seinfeld theme song was actually played on a keyboard. No bass guitar was used. Therefore the sketch should feature a keyboard player, not a bass player. The 360 Systems MIDI Bass was an early sampled bass unit that was used to create the show's signature slap bass sound.
Jake tapper took Seth’s “I Should Note” ❤😂 I am one of the fans Jake describes. I love seeing the flashbacks! Thank you for this conversation. I always enjoy when Jake is a guest on Seth or Stephen.
Not on Instagram, so didn't vote, i agree with firm five, but The Mirror is a no (additional reading). People Getting Punched Right Before Eating is so joyously silly i would make it a YES. And Lazer Cats should be yes as all 7 in one, if only because my 8 year daughter asks to watch Lazer Cats more often than Frozen.
Tossing in my vote (again) for People Getting Punched Before Eating- I think this is the one I rewatched the most out of TLI’s early shorts, and seeing all the other support for it here in the comments I’m not alone in my love for it
commenting to leave a thought for the gang: just wanted to say that for whatever reason, Andy's recurring line from the Shana sketches "me too as well" lives rent-free in my head and is something I say whenever the opportunity arises, it is one of my all-time favorite "no one thinks this is as funny as me" things
I love that Jake Tapper is a Lonely Island fan! All I can picture now, is him coming into the CNN office the day after "Sushi Glory Hole" aired and enthusiastically recapping it to Dana Bash.
"My testicles" is so fucking criterion. Maybe Kim's videos, because there was a point in time where you couldn't find it on UA-cam. But personally criterion. It might be my favorite thing the lonely island ever did. So Seth Myers and mose from the office blew it.

Here to say that Laser Cats as a whole should be in The Criterion Collection. It’s too hard to say only one is great and they are important as a collective. I was on fence about tapper getting a say, Mike sure I get it he is a comedy genius but by end I think Tapper is passionate enough about the sketches while also being very well spoken from being broadcast journalist, so he can organize his thoughts very well.

Instead of choosing one installment, perhaps all Laser Cats could be entered as a single body of work into the criterion collection.
as their box set, Bergman style
