I liked the team work between you guys, always happy to see people actually using their 4x4s for what they were intended.. and the Triton driver really did well considering the tires he was using. Fun video!
quality camera work. great to see so many different truck tackling the same obstacles. definately turn down the music a bit please champ. after 29 mins wearing headphones i got a massive headache.. really wanted to hear the engines working. Nice job (apart from the safety issues ) but mostly great !!
Great trail nice vid, would liked to have joined you lot. Go easy with the music choice tho? A lot of people would just rather listen to the trucks and the surroundings.
Have been on all the Toyota Surf forums in Australia , New Zealand and Toyota 4runner forums in the USA and have found that the Surfs and 4runners never had a centre locking diff. The first center locking diff that was fitted to a Toyota 4x4 was the 80 series Landcruiser. I think you have a manual set of diff lockers front and rear - not AIR LOCKERS as in ARB. The orange light just lets you know that you have engaged 4x4 same as on my 4runner
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos Michael. Yeah, the Triton did a fantastic job considering it's stock. The traction control system work really good on them. The tyres he was running were AT-771's.
Thank you. Yeah, I wish I had the rest of it, batteries, then it rained and we got badly stuck, 4 creeks filled up, then it got dark, LOL, would've been good to see but we were trying our best to get outta there before dark and get the stuck vehicles out.
The Triton doesn't come stock with a rear locker. The one in the video has a factory rear air locker but it doesn't work, probably damaged wire or air hose, so everything was done with traction control. Well, the advantages are different. Front and rear lockers would be the best as you tackle the terrain straight-on locked. Traction control kicks in when the computer detects slippage and in some cases that might be too late. Having one set of lockers depends what terrain you're climbing.
I love that you kept the original audio even tho you added music, love hearing the engine and instructions being given. Also that Nissan is a beast. Didn't even break a sweat over most obstacles. But when it drove through the ruts and got caught on I assume the diff all the time? That made me close my eyes, denting the diff housing is not good...
Thanks mate. Yes, it caught on the diff but the soil was too soft so made the track passable for trucks running up to 35s lol, no damage to the diff housing whatsoever.
damn its fun to be with u guys. And oh, that mitsubishi triton deserves credit. Hes on all stock but hey, just went fine with all u guys. Nce show by the way. Hoping to see more from u guys. Rock on
Glad to know you have got your Surf sorted out. The last one I had was a 1995 model but had no center locking diff. In fact I never knew they came out with a center locking diif. That must have been a special import model to have that feature as all the ones I have seen over the years never had that feature. Yours is a first.
the guy in the patrol is good, drives straight into the rut, too easy, no sliding, full control, knows what hes doing (3:30), great video, makes me wanna get my ute dirty
Aussie Four Wheelers About 800 meters from the rehab centre at the western end.... serve us right for taking our bog standard Wrangler in there! We learned our lesson! Now it’s in getting a winch, 4.5 inch lift, rock crawler suspension, 35’s, twin lockers, custom purple paintwork, etc.... We’ll just cruise thru there next time...!!!! 👍😊
Enjoy it for as long as possible as they are a great vehicle. Just keep an eye on the idler arm as that is the weak link in the front end. After replacing mine many times, I eventually bought another new one which had a grease nipple . Then got solid brass bushes made and greased them eervy 1000 km and never had any more problems.
Awesome looking tracks out there. Great video. Only thing I can suggest is keep well clear when winching, I noticed a couple of guys in the vid getting very close to the cable when under tension. And I think your mate in the Triton needs to invest in a snorkel if he plans to keep hitting the bog holes at speed. LOL
I have had a few surfs over the years and none of them have had a center diff lock. What year is yours and in which country are you ?? Double check the front hubs to see if they are manual or auto,
Shortly after I posted my reply, a mate of mine rang me to tell me that the LTD Edition did come with a centre locking diff. Its fine when you are going up a steep rocky incline or a muddy hill, providing you have all four wheels on the ground, the centre diff lock works a treat, but if you get cross axled then its not much use as I have discovered in an 80 series Landcruiser.
Am I the only one who really enjoyed the music? What is the name of the song by the way? Talking about the video, I think it's a great ride and Nissan Patrol really kicked asses. Not an expert on 4x4 by love the video. Thanks for sharing.
+ldvillas Thanks for dropping a comment and glad you enjoyed the video. About the music, I'm not sure, it was a long time ago. I found it somewhere on here.
really awesome video!, that Hilux and Patrol are amazing machines!!, but I really have to give credit to the Triton, that truck is not lifted, no winch, no 'prop tires and yet have a really nice performance, a very reliable machine I must say. I would love to share tracks with you pals in my lifted D21 truck.
Cool vid ! I live in Madagascar where we have the same kind of "roads". I have a question : do you ever load the back of the pick-ups (like sand bags) in order to have more traction on the back weels ?
On top of that it had a 3" Exhaust frmo the dump pipe with no silencer , just the cat convertor. rear end had 30 degrees of flex and neevr had a wheel in the air. Rock Sliders underneath, ARB bull bar with 12 LB Warn winch and Lightforce HID spotlams. Only got bogged once and that was due to the ground giving way under neath. Winched myself out backwards !!! Best 4x4 I have ever owned . Wish I had kept it as it was more capable than any patrol or 100 series Landcruiser.
It will go well as long as you have all four wheels on the ground. If you get cross axled, then the center locking diff may not as well be there, as it does not lock the wheel with the least traction, so you will still be in strife. A rear locker will get you out of 90 % of most situations. Mine had lockers front and rear, 2" body lifet and 3" lift at the rear , 2" on the front. Rear had 80 series L/Cruiser spring with Ford F250 LONG travel Shocks. 33" Pro-Comp Xtreme Terrain tryes on 12 " rims.
i believe it has automatic hubs as thats what the 4wd in the transfer lever is for. i had the truck on the beach the other night and if i have the lever in the H2-H4 position and press the 4wd button, it goes into 4 high. i know this because i had all 4 wheel spinning trying to tow a log. I also under stand the 4L means low ratio but was confused about what the H4L means. google tells me it locks the center diff but other people tell me that the transfer case is locked the moment its in 4wd?
Wow, nice video! To an uninitiated American it looked like a Toyota Hilux with a flat bed (tub), a couple of Land Cruisers, a Mitsubishi Triton, and a Nissan Patrol. Here instead of the Hilux we have the equally capable Tacoma, our Land Cruisers are too big and luxury oriented but we do have the incredible 4Runner, no Triton, or Patrol. Our pre 2005 Nissan Pathfinder looks a lot like the Patrol and probably is as capable. Nissan made the Xterra until 2014 which is their best off road SUV ever sold here and offers their Frontier to compete with the Tacoma. We don’t have the low rpm torque producing diesel engines which is a shame. We do have high horsepower high rpm torque gas engines. You generally will see higher lifts and bigger tires and fewer snorkel kits here. Oh….and more jeeps.
mine has an LSD in the rear. i found this when i was adjusting the drums a while back. ive been looking at buying myself a 70 serries landcruiser flat deck or a 06 triton that has front and rear diff lockers
I was thinking of buying the 80s series but that Nissan made it look easy.... Who am I kidding LOL I love my Toyotas, although credit too where credits due... Nice work..Is the 80 IFS or live?
I think you have got your self a litle confused. The Surf has an Auto box with an electric push button on the Auto chnage lever which when loush in tell you on the dashboard whetheryou are in 4WD. 2H and 4H means you are either in 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive in HIGH range. When you shift the transfer lever into L thats Low range and you can either be in 2 wheel drive in LOW range or FOUR wheel drive - provided you have engaged 4wd on the transfer lever. Dont forget to engage the front hubs.
Nice trail and great vehicles. But my love stays with 80 series. Own both 80 series and Patrol 3.0 and done off-roading with both. Still that 80 is a beast 👍
Its a 1996 surf SSRG 3L turbo diesel. i found an explanation The 3rd gen surfs (96 on) have part time and full time settings. Part time centre diff locked ,orange light on (H4L) Full time centre diff unlocked ,orange light off ( H4 green wheels on) one allows me to use 4wd on the road without binding the diffs etc
Cool video, really enjoyed it!! Shouldn't you have used a tree protector to when they winched that Hilux out? tree huggers already love us off roaders.....
Hey guys. i was wondering if you could help me understand the 4wd in my toyota surf a bit better. on the 4wd stick, it has H2-H4. then shift the stick down it has H4L, then shift it to the left and push up it has its 4L. What im a little confused with is if i have the stick in the H2-H4 position and press the 4wd button, does that put the car in to H4? and if i shift the stick down, what does the H4L mean?
the arial is about 1m tall. Ill grab a pic of the shifter tomorrow when there is some light and ill do the same for the transfer case. you can see the surf in my dp though
I liked the team work between you guys, always happy to see people actually using their 4x4s for what they were intended.. and the Triton driver really did well considering the tires he was using. Fun video!

Nice job (apart from the safety issues ) but mostly great !!
Thank you for the balanced feedback. I'm so sorry about the headache :(
Great trail nice vid, would liked to have joined you lot. Go easy with the music choice tho? A lot of people would just rather listen to the trucks and the surroundings.
fully agree ☺

Well done to the person behind the video camera. Gets a 10/10 from me making it an interesting video to watch.
Steinwaygrande Thank you so much. So glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you. Yeah, I wish I had the rest of it, batteries, then it rained and we got badly stuck, 4 creeks filled up, then it got dark, LOL, would've been good to see but we were trying our best to get outta there before dark and get the stuck vehicles out.
Well done boys! Its nice to se different types of setup
And how they preform.
Thanks again mate. Great vid. Geeze the Triton did alright considering it was running road tyres. You just can't beat live axles over ifs. Cheers
The Triton doesn't come stock with a rear locker. The one in the video has a factory rear air locker but it doesn't work, probably damaged wire or air hose, so everything was done with traction control.

Yet another brilliant video! Well done and keep them coming!

I've come to the conclusion that the Mitsubishi L200 (triton) is a badass! I'm buying one
Yep, it is surely underestimated.
dat traction control bruh
triton!! thats the triton right there or the mitsubishi strada in the phil.!! love the video and the triton and the skills and the trail :D
Glad you liked it mate. Yeah, the Triton did exceptionally well there. Caught everyone by surprise!
Oh thanks for the information, I really love the way you all do the off road driving....cheers...
Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it.
the guy in the patrol is good, drives straight into the rut, too easy, no sliding, full control, knows what hes doing (3:30), great video, makes me wanna get my ute dirty
Killer Video From Florida we have a lot of wet trails and mud here also, keep the vids coming!!!
delandgixxer750 Glad you liked it dude :)
Awesome tracks, Triton was surprising he did well, nice video, fun to watch.
You guys are having way too much fun (so envious right now ^^ )
Glad you liked it 👍 Thanks for watching.
Great vid...! Mad little track...... Got stuck down there for a day & a half at Easter....!
Nuts!!! Sounds like you got stuck badly. Whereabouts?
Aussie Four Wheelers About 800 meters from the rehab centre at the western end.... serve us right for taking our bog standard Wrangler in there! We learned our lesson! Sounds awesome. Oh, I know the bog hole you're talking about 😂 Looks so innocent.
Aussie Four Wheelers I think she wanted to leave me there...!!! 😂
Hahaha 😂😂😂
Thanks for that. Yeah, looks like the Triton stole the show.
Enjoy it for as long as possible as they are a great vehicle. Just keep an eye on the idler arm as that is the weak link in the front end. Thanks buddy. Yeah, the Triton surprised everyone that day.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks mate. Yeah, we shoud've, I think laziness got the better of us at that spot, as there was a bit of panic. We used it elsewhere though.
Thanks Paul. The Jeep couldn't make it last time, chucked a sickie, lol.
You won't! Wouldn't wanna have someone like you around to wreck our day!
I have had a few surfs over the years and none of them have had a center diff lock. What year is yours and in which country are you ?? Double check the front hubs to see if they are manual or auto,
Real off-roading👍👍👍.. Nice pace though to triton, even if it was not equipped with lockers..
Thanks bud. Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, the Triton was impressive.
Tree trunk protector????
Can you do a compilation off triton videos please? Happy New year, and new truck :3
There will be more videos with the Triton in it soon. I'll keep you posted, or subscribe, to make sure.
Aussie Four Wheelers (Hemi4WD)
Maybe buy some better tires and a diff lock or 2? I thought a 14 year old was driving that. LOL.
Thanks again and no worries mate, more coming soon.
Nice driving! Looks like a great trail.
Thanks mate. Yeah, that is a nice trail indeed.
good video guys good sensible skilled offroading, curious about the skyline powered gu

Love the bar work on the 80
For some of us its like watching a porn. Great video.
Japanese cars are though as nails. It is a Land cruiser land outback! Thanks for this great video.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
Yeah, they are a very capable 4x4.
You're welcome amigo! Thank you too.

L200 did great on the day, surprised everyone. Traction control.
Thanks mate!
Killer Video!!! Keep it up!!!

Great video!!! Prado has no locker at all, this is why the going is harder for the guy in it!
It had a rear locker

Awesome video guys, what lift and tires are on the GU if you don't mind me asking
Thanks mate. The GU has a 6" lift and 35s.
I was thinking of buying the 80s series but that Nissan made it look easy.... Who am I kidding LOL I love my Toyotas, although credit too where credits due... Nice work..Is the 80 IFS or live?
beautiful off road video but wheres the continuation?...thumps up...
Thanks, I'll try my best :)
The 80-s has live axles and front and rear air lockers.

AWESOME Vid boys....
Thumbs up ;)
sir, ford ranger wildtrak 3.2 has rear locking differential. Does mitsubishi triton have it too? and does rear locking differential have an advantage?
Cool video, really enjoyed it!! Shouldn't you have used a tree protector to when they winched that Hilux out? tree huggers already love us off roaders.....

Yeah the Triton! Show those Toyotas how it's done
Nice trip gentlemans and good cars.
Why did that prado make everything look so easy? What tires were on it? Did it have diff lockers?
Not really lol 😆 just a set of AT's, and yes, had a rear locker.
Proves you can put standard tires on a mitsubish and go 4wd with it
They're Maxxis AT-771 tyres.
must be down on tread by heaps.they look like road tires.
Just because it got through doesn't mean it isn't ruining it for everyone else.
They're not an aggressive tread pattern i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTAwWDM4Mg==/z/BksAAOSwKIpWAXI2/$_58.JPG
L200 win! L200 have Super-Select or Easy Select? Regards.
so if someone has non-hemi rig and wants to drive with you, would that be ok or it's no go ?
Why not? Look at all the vehicles in the video. _There's only one HEMI._
after watching this video.....i just want to buy a 4x4!, thanks!
nice vid but why was there kids near a winch cable?
the arial is about 1m tall. Ill grab a pic of the shifter tomorrow when there is some light and ill do the same for the transfer case. you can see the surf in my dp though
Hilux makes it all look so easy...but I guess the tires do help...and the driver
And lockers. But yeah, it did great.
So you are going to sell the surf ???
Nice vid musa, where's your Jeep?
The lux loves those lockers
Love the nissan.
Aidan Irrgang triton is strong ass too bud but selection of tyre is so wrong..
Does the Nissan Patrol has diff block? he climbs like he does..
Carlos Leon Yes, in this video it had a front locker and a rear LSD.
Hello,
What is the mark of the land cruiser 120 bumper???
It's an original Toyota option.
Music was soundtrack from Doom 2.....!!! 👍😊
By the way are you in Australia or overseas ??
good experience but the clip music was extremely high
Yeah, true about the music, it's just too much.
the nissan its the king
