@@FarBank Hey Simon, I took loads of your tips and advice to Tasmania a couple of weeks ago. I only had one day fishing, but got four very nice trout! (And a few perch too.) Thanks for your contribution!
@@johnx9318 - that is the best news, John. We're so glad you had a good day on the water and caught a few fish, and all envious of your trip to Tasmania :)
I think this is the hardest thing to perfect as a new fly fisherman. I think by the end of the season if I keep fishing as much as I am I'll get my loops much tighter. My back cast seems to be really good buy my forward casts are sloppy. The back cast naturally has translation and then rotation but my forward cast gets early rotation. I think I'll have to get some footage of me casting sometime to study.
Presented well. I have people watch this when I am teaching them to cast. For me it is aggression when I am casting big flies on sinking line, seems to get worse when I am in a boat for some reason.
@@FarBank immensely, it's misleading for some to say fly fishing is simple, but the difficulty is shadowed by the enjoyment the challenge brings, and the excitement of landing a fish on a fly rod. Thanks for all the helpful videos, I would be lost if it wasn't for the online fly fishing community
I’m 71 and took up fly fishing 4 1/2 months ago. I found an instructor 2 1/2 hours away and this spring I’ll start my lessons, to say the least I’m very excited. In the meantime I read, watch videos and practice casting 25+ minutes a day. I love casting! I think that I’m doing well but my concern is what if I put a bad casting stroke into my muscle memory. With another two or three months before getting my formal lessons is it alright to continue to practice? I am constantly taking videos to monitor my progress. ua-cam.com/video/pJhALiFWZjM/v-deo.html It’s funny but in a golf swing, despite what you think you’re doing, the ball tells you what you actually did. In a cast it’s the line that lets you know.
Good question! a number of people have similar concerns, and while there is a danger of developing poor muscle memory, it takes a few years to do so and get to a point that it is a problem,
Such a great video! You perfectly explained how to solve the problems I've been experiencing with my casts!!
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks a lot for commenting :)
Man, I hope someday to make it all look so effortless! Off to practice...
Good luck with the practice, and thanks for commenting...

It certainly is, and most people don't really know how to correct the mistakes, hence the video. Glad you enjoyed this one too.
