What I love about Erin is that, strictly speaking, she’s actually an author avatar of the show’s creator Lisa McGee but she avoids all the Mary Sue traps by being just as flawed as the other girls yet still well intentioned and rational enough to be likeable. Lisa McGee not only avoided idealising her teenage self but if anything, she likely exaggerated her flaws for comedy. Erin Quinn is an author avatar as protagonist done right.

I don’t really think that’s true, most Irish people have English relatives or have spent some time in England. Likewise, UK citizens are the second largest minority group in the Republic of Ireland. What we in Ireland don’t like is how the British establishment historically treated Ireland, or how little consideration many Brexiters have for the negative impact of UK withdrawal on the island of Ireland. But these are rather specific issues which don’t necessarily reflect on the British people as a whole.

I like how her and orla, actually all the kids, did really inherrit some traits from their parents yet aren't just copies either. Like Erin is just like her ma the center of the group and is kinda fiery while she gets her level headedness from both parents, Orla is just as wacky as her mom and both march the sound of their own drum while being a lil...dumb, and michelle is just as no nonsense as her mom, claire is also a nervous wreck like her mom and james is also kinda materialistic and posh like his mom. This show has absolutely amazing character writing

I don’t think anyone on this planet will appreciate this show to its truest extent unless your from Norn Iron. I’m from Belfast and I love it. Derry folk must just adore this more so. The acting is superb and such amazing writing. Can not wait for season 2.... big shoes to fill... and please oh please don’t cast Nadine Coyle if the rumours are true. Just because she is a celebrity and from Derry doesn’t mean she should be in it.

As the main character you could see her being the "straight man" character, and sometimes she is, but most of the time she's just as bonkers, if not more so, than anyone else, and I love it.
