  • On November 21, 1960, a solitary helicopter soared above the rugged peaks of the Himalayas, defying the thin air and treacherous winds at nearly 20,000 feet.
This was the Aérospatiale Alouette III, piloted by the renowned French aviator Jean Boulet. Amidst the snow-covered mountains, Boulet skillfully maneuvered the helicopter, performing take-offs and landings in an extreme environment where few dared to venture.
But its capabilities didn't stop there.
The Alouette III was also the first helicopter ever to be capable of deploying anti-tank missiles and light torpedoes, providing the French Navy with its first helicopter offering real offensive power.
From the highest and coldest of mountains to the semi-desert regions, whether launching missile strikes or rescuing beleaguered forces, the Alouette III light utility helicopter could do it all, all over the world.

I initially clicked onto this video because of the elephant helicopter image, but after watching the entire video I did not see any mention or footage of the elephant helicopter... I HATE Click Bait!

I get vaguely misleading, “clickbaitey” titles are somewhat of a norm nowadays in UA-cam as an easy way to get engagement and views in long-form content like the one this channel makes. But lately this channel has just been straight up dishonest, showcasing dramatic titles and thumbnails about topics that are not even mentioned in the video. This channel makes good content, there is no need for these antics, cmon Dark Skies.

Maybe I missed it, but I watched the entire video, and I didn’t see anything that even remotely resembled an elephant.

If your gonna advertise elephant helicopters, you should at least mention them. The image seems to be decoration for some sort of promotion? Could have at least explained it.

It's weird that you have such an extension of video from the portuguese african independence war and you don't mention it

The alouette was the first helicopter I ever got a ride in as a young EMT. It inspired me to go on and become an Army attack helicopter pilot.

No mention of its extensive use in Rhodesia? Typically, when one hears 'bush war', 'G car' and 'K car' one thinks of the Rhodesian bush war.

The images of soldiers loading onto the heli were the Portuguese military that used this helicopter in the war in Angola.

As a SAAF Flight Engineer... more than 1250 hours of which about 390 hours in the "bush war" environment you mention. I was stationed at 16 Sqn in Port Elizabeth, SA... where my flying career came to an end in Jan 1991 - we ditched at sea in Alo 620... as they say in the classics... and the rest is history!

Incomplete story, the Portuguese colonial and the Rhodesian wars are missing.
