I fitted a belt drive kit to my Triumph Bobber. The difference in noise is remarkable. Plus the tension is much more consistent, so you get better gear shifts. Also a lack of filth sprayed over the chain guard and wheel if you over lube. With that said my R9T shaft is very nice.
I have , been riding since the 1970's, and have owned several bikes, with chain and shaft. I can say that a shaft bike is by far , superior , in terms of maintenance, reliability, and ease of ownership, and certainly longevity.
If you don’t like messing around with the final drive, I suggest a shaft drive. I have a 99 bmw r1100s and a brand new Indian super chief which is literally the first motorcycle I’ve ever bought new and the first bike I’ve ever owned that was made in this century. So far I like the belt drive just fine, which I wasn’t sure I’d like because I’d only ever ridden chain or shaft drive up till now.
After many years of believing chaines are best, I turned round... Give me a shaft drive any day, even on a sports bike. It is much more refined in my view... The only problem: it severely limits your choice, certainly if you are not a big BMW fan...
