  • We've all seen those dodgy, budget powered respirators from China on eBay, but how good are they really, and how do they stack up to the 3M VersaFlo™?

    First mod I would be doing would be adding a mount for AS standard filters, so you can swap out hepa or chemical units depending on what you are doing.

    Id like to see a 3d printed adapter to allow you to use the versaflow helmet with cheaper filters or a papr like this one

    A great review sir. From having to wear respirators of so many kinds over the years I have found if you loop the hose over your shoulder it helps with the hose being in the way of ones work.

    I looked at those, after once again agonizing over a Versa flow that I can't actually afford, and ended up going for a Trend Airshield Pro and so far have been pretty happy with it.

      @@ValhallaIronworks Yep, that's the conclusion I came to as well.
      The downside is they are a little heavier, since the motor, battery and filters are all in the helmet, but on the upside there are no pipes.

    The connectors on the hose on my mask have swivels built-in so you can do them up without twisting the hose.

    I've been semi-seriously considering buying one of these so I can go biking outside during wildfire season. I don't need a face shield, but I've got a normal respirator, so I was thinking of just hooking up the hose to one of the filter mounts (and capping the other).

    Great review. Thanks for being so thourough. I like you wasn't paying the money for a Versaflow. I settled on the Trend Air full face. It's a lot more like the Versaflow as far as the mask goes but the air and filtration is all on the top of the helmet. I was afraid it would be heavy and akward but it is not. It wears easy and works great. A little more expensive than yours. I paid $375.00 US for mine.

      I've heard very good things about them! I sort of consider them to be the halfway point between this and the VersaFlo. I'd love to try one myself one day, but they're still a bit pricey for me.

  • @MrSoloun
    @MrSoloun 3 роки тому +1

    Greta Vid, you convinced me to try one, $143 from Aussies seller including delivery. I am a casual maker and while I loved how the Versa looked, easy to use, great protection etc. I just can't justify that sort of money, but I'd still like to be protected.
    The main mod I'd like would be tear away's or replaced covers for the mask, the belt clip is a good idea.
    You might also be able to buy the Versa mask and hook this pump to it?
    3M, give this man a mask, it will get you some sales I reckon :)

      I have done exactly this I bought the helmet for around 300 and also the breathing hose for it which was about $60 and made an adapter to use regular 3m respirator filters with this system. I used it just like this guy did at first but wanted the versaflo helmet and also didn't like how heavy these air hoses were in this original system but for the price this thing couldn't be beat i used it for 2 full paint jobs on cars as well as small paint jobs.

    I bought a used versaflo helmet on ebay for cheap and bought a different brand filter with motor/pump. I adapted the hose to work but that was years ago and now the pump motor is going out. I may get one of these and adapt it to my versaflo helmet.

    Nice one buddy. well made and thought out video. I wonder how easy it would be to get this system to fit on to one other type masks. I think this might be a good way to build up to a full versaflo system. I will also add i'm sure the versaflo is top notch but there are other branded and non branded papr systems out there at half the price of the M3 product that work just as well the Esab G- series for example. your honestly paying for a name with the versaflo.

    So I'm curious if one could find a "T" port or "L" port to attatch the air hose to the bottom of the mask itself?
    Might make a more comfortable hose placement over one or both shoulders.
    I'd reckon some sort of microban style cleaning stuff fit for a CPAP device would work well for the moisture and bad stuff abaitment?

    • @ValhallaIronworks
      @ValhallaIronworks  3 роки тому +1

      That seems to be the consensus. I just wouldn't want it to impede the ease of taking the helmet on or off. Really, though, you do get used to having the hose hanging there and it's not too bad.

      @ValhallaIronworks  2 роки тому

      I'm a blacksmith, mate, I've never painted a car in my life. I wouldn't have a clue. The seal is pretty damn solid, though. If you take the hose off and put your hand over the hole and try breathing in, you get absolutely nothing but suction. Not even a whistle. Plus, I've spent entire 8 hour days grinding steel in this thing and felt fresh as a daisy afterwards. Normally that kind of thing makes me feel like I've been tongue-kissing a cactus.

  • @troyjackson9402

    Since it has that neck seal, could the white "nose cone" be removed and the airflow still function? I have glasses and they generally don't do well with those nose pieces.

    • @ValhallaIronworks
      @ValhallaIronworks  2 роки тому

      Unfortunately it doesn't have a neck seal. The white nose cone acts a bit like a normal respirator does, cupping against your face around your mouth and nose. I can see that being an issue with glasses-wearers, unfortunately.

    Positive pressure keeps MOST of the stuff out if the seal is imperfect. But air flow is a complex thing, and particularly with facial hair, there is a possibility, rather a certainty, that some air with pollutants will still flow inside the mask. It will be a tiny amount, but depending on the pollutants, it may be suboptimal. Note firefighting gear has even better positive pressure but still facial hair is not the thing with firefighters.
