    ► FAQ
Q• Why do you speed up some of the footage in your videos?
A• We don't, we film it as time-lapse footage. We do not have the battery capacity or data storage to film in real time as our cruises can last up to 7 or 8 hours. We use to the time-lapse footage to help tell the story of movement rather than showcase the scenery. We limit the amount of time-lapse shots we use in each vlog.
Q• Why are the videos so behind?
A• This summer we decided we really wanted to just enjoy travelling on the boat. If we felt like cruising we would. It turened out we cruised a lot which meant we filmed more and had less time to edit. This meant the edits got really far behind. It was not intentional its just a consequence of us looking after our own mental health. Don't worry we are not rushing, we are just trying to enjoy the adventure.

Just realized! Jo, with your maps you could add details like EVERY bridge, every lock, every former bridge (restriction), every pound, every detail. You have and you are recording it all. You could publish a coffee table picture book of canal architecture. You have the images. 👍🏻
Oh, when you’re done over there, come over here and do the ICW and the Great Loop and the St. Lawrence Seaway and The Missouri and The Ohio and all of the tributaries.
    Need any more ideas? 😁😉

Foster's is the Oz equivalent of Moosehead and 50 in Canada or Corona in Mexico: A great diuretic and a horrid beer. One should engage the Foster's consumers to use the canal to replace all the missing water.

Among my beer drinking friends, I don't know of anyone who is a Foster's fan. Hope you both have been able to get your first vaccine. Stay safe and well! Marjorie

Back in the late 1700s/early 1800s it was planned to connect the Peak Forest Canal to the Cromford Canal. This was abandoned due to the lack of available water on the limestone uplands of the White Peak area and instead one of the very earliest railways [Cromford & High Peak Railway in operation from 1833] was built on the surveyed route with a total length of 33 miles consisting of level sections plus 6 rope worked inclines to get to the height of over 1000 feet above sea level to cross the Peak and back down to about 250 feet at Cromford.

I guess you've had all sorts of comment reference being on Mars? That is one long pound without locks! Is it perverse that I love narrowboats and the canal system, while also being fascinated by space travel and the amazing technology of the 'other' Perseverance. Apparently they have landed on or near what has clearly been a delta, so water was once part of Mars' Nicholson.
The news today from that nice Mr Johnson, strongly suggests our postponed cruise from October probably will not take place at Easter, so my 'crew' and I will have to plan something else? I don't know if I can talk them in to it, but we might be able to do two weeks in August and one of the rings? If you only had two weeks and you had to start and stop in the same place, which one would you do? (To be fair, Shire Cruises will actually allow you to do part rings and they pick you up in a minibus.)
I know you already know, but from where you are on the vlog, to where I am typing, there is a lot a 'weather' coming your way. I guess it gets "interesting" as in; 'May you live in interesting times'.

Hello, I am In America and have an interest in " Canal boats " as I call them ...lol...anyways can i ask about #1 How do you turn around ..? and go back the way you came..?... it just does not look very wide to do this in many places along the way . Or are you going to a destination port some where ..?.. I know that the UK has a lot of cannels. and do not know how this all works?. Do all the boats have to be steel frames or could it be made of wood and Fiberglass ..? or is that not a good idea for how narrow the passage ways are ..? ..and do you have to radio someone when you go into tunnels so you don't meet halfway in the middle and get stuck ..?...There is just so much to learn about all of this .and any information I get would be apricated..!.....And 1 more question .Is your Husband from America because he has no English Accent ...?.. Just wondering ...Thanks hope to hear back from you ..Take care ..and Happy boating the cannel's.....

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  3 роки тому

I’m American as well (and Canadian), hence the lack of English accent (indeed my accent is really hard to pin down because of all the travel). As for boating: turning on narrow canals happens at designated turning points, either at junctions (which naturally afford a turn) or at dedicated “winding holes”. There’s usually one every few miles, so you just have to keep going in one direction till you find one that will accommodate the length of your boat (some have posted length restrictions). The narrowboats were originally wood, but rapidly because iron clad and then steel plated, mainly due to their heavy industrial usage. Wooden (usually classic working boats) and fiberglass boats of appropriate width definitely exist, but it’s more common to find them on wide canals, as relatively few manufacturers build fiberglass (known here as GRP) boats to the thin and long proportions of a narrowboat. Radios are not common aboard (except on certain tidal rivers) and things like tunnels are either wide enough for two-way traffic, are time-managed by either signals or tunnel keepers, or are one-way but you can see all the way through to ensure the tunnel is empty before proceeding. Hope that helps! M

Aside from that, it was a lovely vlog, the Peak Forest is a beautiful part of this country, bet you were spoilt for views. And Michael, you are a 'plonker' for not buying the oatcakes, in honour of Trotter's Independent Trading. According to Bozo you should be allowed to move quite soon, we'll all be embracing 'normality' by May/June, just in time for the warm weather. Got my vaccination this week, it will be a relief. mr cc also hates noisy roads. where do they get more water for the locks?

That's what the reservoir is for, so until the repairs are complete they have to pump water from the river.

And now we know why they were pumping water into the canal....maybe.

What happens when sharing locks if another boat starts off in between you and the boat you have been going up/down with?

It’s unlikely to happen but if it does then you would probably just work it out between you I guess.

Didn't they change them a few years ago to 'update' the sentiments for 'today's consumer'? I seem to remember some kind of kerfuffle.

Life is too short to waste it drinking Foster's.

While I've not been there to verify it myself, I have it on really good authority that Foster's is NOT Aussie for beer. All of the Aussies I know refer to it as something entirely different, resembling a bodily fluid that is the same basic color. Also beginning with the word "f**king", but everything in Australia seems to start with that word.

I’m pretty sure Michael was referencing a Foster’s commercial from the States (years ago) that had the tag line “It’s Australian for beer”.

Fosters? Let me put it into terms that most Americans might understand... worse than Bud or Miller Lite. Does that help?
Nobody in Australia would drink it. Awful stuff.

Can't believe I just wrote that, bad man Chazzy, bad man.
