Oh my god, same! I’m here in TX already dressing like it’s fall and lighting fall candles, when it will still be like 80 degrees halfway through October.
Same here in Arizona. I've been trudging through my current read and it's not because I'm not liking it, but it's more of a summer read. I am 110% done with 110°. 😂 I want fall.
Mexican Gothic will be a perfect read for you in fall ! Silvia Moreno Garcia absolutely nailed the gothic horror atmosphere, the feeling of dread and wrongness, the gross imageries, the creepy characters, the sensual moments, the weird hallucinations. One of my fave book ever and a new auto buy author for me def.
I can’t wait to see what you think about Malice! I have been reading The Faithful and the Fallen this year and LOVE it. I’m about to start the fourth and final book, and I’m not ready for the end!
Our Share of the Night is my all-time favorite book that I have read in several years. If there was a sequel, I would learn Spanish just so I could read it.. that's how much I loved it.
I've had a goal to read more classics in 2023 and I've been saving Frankenstein for fall. Other than that one which is intentionally fall-vibey, I just have such a long TBR to keep working through. I'm about 1/4 through The Way of Kings and it has sucked me in so much, maybe I'll just binge all available Stormlight Archive books for the rest of the year! Note to all who hear that's a great series but you're hesitating b/c it seems intimidating - I was there, but when I gave it a chance I've found that it's not as taxing as I feared. Just really entertaining story telling. Finding myself actually glad rather than daunted that there are so many pages/books still to read.
Me: All of those look SOOO interesting, I want to read them now (especially Everyone knows your mom is a witch) My current TBR: 😨😨😨 Also my mood reader mind: 🥴🥴🥴 That Legends and Lattes special edition do be STUNNING
I love Mexican Gothic! The world building, the magic, the haunted atmosphere. At some point in the book, it completely takes a sharp turn into wtf did I just read? In a good way
I'm so excited to learn about the Legends and Lattes glow up - definitely checking that one out! I didn't care for Mexican Gothic mainly because the main character was so passive and the descriptions were really gross, but I'll be interested to hear what you think.
I loved THE HACIENDA so much, so I ordered THE VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE as my BOTM pick this month! I’m excited to read it. I read MEXICAN GOTHIC earlier this year or late last year and enjoyed it, but not as much as THE HACIENDA! I’m super intrigued by OUR SHARE OF THE NIGHT and some of the others you have here as well. 😍 My Fall TBR is huge! I’m currently reading DAMNED IF YOU DO by Alex Brown. Other books I want to read include: 1. IMMORTAL LONGINGS by Chloe Gong 2. ALL THE DEAD LIE DOWN by Kyrie McCauley 3. HANI AND ISHU’S GUIDE TO FAKE DATING by Adiba Jaigirdar 4. HOUSE OF SALT AND SORROWS by Erin A. Craig 5. SPICE ROAD by Maiya Ibrahim 6. VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE by Isabel Canas 7. LOVE, THEORETICALLY by Ali Hazelwood 8. THE WISHING GAME by Meg Shaffer 9. FORGIVE ME NOT by Jennifer Baker (friend’s book!) 10. THE ODDS by Lindsay Puckett 11. FOXGLOVE by Adalyn Grace (sequel to BELLADONNA!) 12. NIGHT OF THE LIVING QUEERS Anthology edited by Alex Brown and Shelly Page 13. THE UNDETECTABLES by Courtney Smyth 14. TOGETHER WE ROT by Skyla Arndt 15. CURIOUS TIDES by Pascale Lacelle 16. BEING ACE: AN ANTHOLOGY OF QUEER, TRANS, FEMME, AND DISABLED STORIES OF ASEXUAL LOVE AND CONNECTION edited by Madeline Dyer (I have a story in here, so I’m biased). 😂 And many more! 😍
I loved The Hacienda and picked The Vampires of El Norte for my BOTM too! I read House of Salt and Sorrows last year and loved it. I really want to read the sequel that just came out. Hope you enjoy!
I haaaaaated the writing of deadly education. I liked the plot and magic system but the inner monologues just went on and on. I wanted to like this series so badly.
My Autumnal TBR: 1. Maskerade & Lord and Ladies by Sir Terry Pratchett 2. Secret Project 3 by Dr. Sanderson 3. The Faithful and the Fallen by Gwynne 4. The Shadow of the Wind by Zafon
Scholomance is a trilogy (one of my fav of all time, actually! once you can get past the info dumping style it's excellent. grumpy dark mistress El and her himbo golden retriever Orion following her around is such a fun dynamic. plus I'm here for the eat the rich vibes) ...but Scholomance is pronounced like 'school' or 'scholar,' not 'shool' 😅
i'm currently reading malice and i'm loving it, it was a bit dense in the 1st 100 page but it became really intriguing after that. having so much fun so far, hope you get it to it and enjoy it!
I loved Mexican Gothic. It was very interesting and had great atmosphere. I recently bought Ordinary Monsters by J.M. Miro and The Cloisters by Katy Hays so those are certainly on my autumn tbr
I'm staring at my toppling stack of summer vibe books. Far more books gathered than I could possibly read, but I was slowed down even more by book club choices and interlibrary loan books coming in, plus summer activities and gardening. I am determined to fill the rest of August with more summer books before being sucked into spooky season so, to that end, I'm trying hard not to even THINK about what books I want to read this autumn.
I'm mostly just trying to knock out my overall TBR, and some of my "fall reads" are summer reads, as August is actually spooky season in Japan because of the Obon festival, so I'm just extending my spooky season reads lol. But it's not just spooky reads. Some books I'm excited to read are: Husky and His Offiical Blessing vol 3, A Thousand Autumns vol 2, Heaven's Offiical Blessing 7, Sword Catcher, Fragile Threads of Power, A Southern Bookclub's Guide to Slaying Vampire, Lover Arisen, the Viper, Lassiter, Darius, Into the West, Toymaker's Son, Dark Heir, and...we'll see what else I get to.
I recommend They Call Her Sofia by Doris Ladino. It’s a romance novel with spice here and there. A great novel. Fun, engaging, with a twist. Very relatable 😊
No idea which dark academia books you've read, but after The Secret History, my expectations are sky high for it. I'm going to continue The Atlas Six after my finals end tomorrow! I had only read the prologue but then I got my timetable which made me take a break :(
THE HOUSE WITCH 😍 an absolutely incredible audiobook please check out Matthew Wolf’s version! The first one is quite slow and steady but as the series progresses it gets even better with more intriguing plots! Matthew is an amazingly dynamic vocal performer with many accents that are a delight!
Excited to hear what you think of our share of the night. Btw there are more works from Mariana that have been translated into english. I recommend "what we lost in the fire" and " the dangers of smoking in bed" spooky

I DNFd it. It was so slow and I just couldn't get into it. I was super excited to read it too. 😢 I might see if I can find the audiobook to see if I like it better that way.

Not me excited about fall while it’s 106 degrees in TX with no end in sight.
Oh my god, same! I’m here in TX already dressing like it’s fall and lighting fall candles, when it will still be like 80 degrees halfway through October.
Me in NC saying oh my gosh it’s so cool when I walked out of work and it’s 90° compared to the 103 it’s been the last four days lollll
Same from Arkansas. Not to brag, but we’ve been in the mid 80s the last couple weeks.
Also from Texas, in the RGV. Super hot!
Same here in Arizona. I've been trudging through my current read and it's not because I'm not liking it, but it's more of a summer read. I am 110% done with 110°. 😂 I want fall.
The Scholomance is actually a trilogy.
A Deadly Education
The Last Graduate
The Golden Enclaves
Came to the comments to say the same thing 😂
Such a great trilogy. Made me laugh a lot
Loved this series. I binged it late last year!

I have it, but it’s been sitting in my desk a while! Going to give it a try. ❤
