📜📜📜 From Cemetery to Garden: The story they never told you about one of Granada's Treasures

In an unexpected place in Granada, there is a hidden history that few know about. 🌟 Discover the hidden treasures of this fascinating corner of the city.
The current name of this place has its origin in 1618, when Granada became the first Spanish city to swear the theological truth of the Immaculate Conception. 📜 For this reason, a large monument was erected in her honour, called The Triumph of the Virgin, which currently presides over these beautiful gardens. 🌸 It is a column crowned by the Virgin of the Immaculate, whose original site was the square in front of the Elvira Gate. 🏛️
This space and its surroundings have been witness to the history of Granada since the 11th century, being the scene of many battles and legends. ⚔️ Later, in the 13th century, it became a large Muslim cemetery. 🕌
After the taking of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs, the cemetery was closed and the transformation of this area began. In the highest part of the gardens, the Royal Hospital was built, along with other buildings in the surrounding area, which made this place one of the most prominent districts of the city. 🏥
Until the 19th century, this was a place of recreation and celebration for the people of Granada. 🎉 Paradoxically, it was also a place for public executions during the French occupation. ⚖️
Later, in the space now occupied by the gardens, a wooden bullring known as La Chata was built, which was in operation until 1948. 🐂
