    I feel so sorry for the young people now days, they won’t know the fun of a mall. At a mall you could shop, eat, meet up with friends. You could watch the seasons change with the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause pictures. Today’s young people are going to miss so much. Thanks for the memories Daryl. Good times

    Used to go to Lakeside as a kid until we moved away in the mid 80s. Now I'm back in the state and not sure if I could stand to walk through the zombie version of my childhood memories at the mall. Sad to see it go but hopefully what they build in its place is the source of good memories for other generations.

    As a 1980s mall rat this does bring back memories. mall were everywhere.
    The Thousand Oaks Mall or Oaks Mall is still around. I used to go there in the 80s. It has been updated and still seems to be thriving so it’s a bit of an oddball in today’s age.

    This was such a great mall back in the day. Before Somerset and Partridge Creek, Lakeside was the place to be for shopping and teens who wanted to get their first tastes of freedom. I rode in the Hydrotube before it closed and I skated on the ice rink that was in the same spot before the Hydrotube. Saturday afternoons in the fall during the 80’s and early 90’s this mall was packed!! And in December people were parking up on the lawn at the outside edge of Lakeside Circle. Really sad to see a place with so many great memories close forever.

    One big problem malls solve that the new "open" develop has is that Michigan gets cold. In a mall you can go from store to store, but why would you want to walk to the next store when it is snowing out?

    It's saddens me that the mall I grew up going to will soon be gone forever 😢. I went to Lakeside one last time to buy a dress shirt. I walked around for a couple of hours and took a bunch of pics so I could have the memories to look back upon. I chatted with a few random people about their experiences and memories coming here. I will also really miss the flaming wok in the food court.

    This was a great mall and it used to be packed to the lawn to get in. Tilt was an amazing arcade and the best place to meet up with friends or meet new girls lol. It's so sad this is closing and that dump of an outside mall partridge creek is staying open. I think lakeside was better than Somerset in a lot of ways. Somerset has nothing but stores for women and lots of other boring stores. As a 90s kid this place was the best hands down. Hopefully whatever they are building will be just as good.

    That mall looks very much in the same vein as Fairlane Mall in Dearborn, must have been the same designers /architect, thats to close to be a copy. From the second story railing, to the light fixtures, down to the sunk-in seating rest spots, almost identical. Its odd, (being someone in their 40s) to see all the malls close, after a time when it seemed they couldn't build enough of them. People "order" more than they probably "go purchase", and the teenagers don't seem to hang out/meet up there anymore. Guess everything has its time.

    • @OnTheRocks71
      @OnTheRocks71 4 місяці тому

      I'm thinking you're right. Lived in Dearborn most of my life so I spent a lot of time in Fairlane. I love the mid-70's aesthetic in that place. Westland was my other main hangout, I actually went there a couple days before Christmas last year. Its decline seems to finally be accelerating. The loss of its Macy's was a huge blow as it was kind of the heart of that place. It was surreal to walk around the place so close to Christmas and not have any trouble navigating, there just wasn't that many people and the particular store I was looking for had moved out anyways.

Toys of anything a kid could imagine. I got to pick one. I got a g.i. Joe for my 5th. birthday.🤗

    Impossible to believe. But at one time you could get banned from the mall. My Best friend and I were in that mall in the early 1981. We were goofing around. Overcrowding was a thing back then. If you were not shopping. They wanted you out. A mall Mounty caught my friend and gave him a lifetime trespassing ban. He was walked off the property by the Mounty. I picked him up and we went home laughing. TBH, we use to do our Christmas shopping the works. We still went to the movie house. Flash forward to the year 2018 he received a letter from Lakeside mall informing him he is allowed back into the mall. We laughed like fools. We long ago moved away. My friend was dying of Cancer, and it was one of last great laughs we had. We joked when he was better. We would go back and buy something of value.

    I live a minute away from the mall. I used to walk in there every day but only occasionally go there now. It does make me sad to see its decline and ultimately its demise. I’ve been going there since it opened. Sears opened first in 76. The current plans are for Macy’s and Penney’s to remain but I’m not sure if the Sears and Lord & Taylor stores will remain. They are not owned by the mall. There is a sign in the parking lot now declaring the new Lakeside Life Center (or something to that effect) will open soon. It’s going to be weird to see that place knocked down. I saw a Facebook post that said a jet flyover will happen on the celebration day in June. I’m going to go there tomorrow to make my own private video for a keepsake.

    i just stopped by last week to get one last look and smell of the place. Been going there since I was a kid. Its sad because the mall management didn't even let some stores know when they are shutting down and found out through the news.... thats some low bs right there. Not to avoid accountability here but... it's almost addicting to use amazon, I wish government would have stepped in and stopped its monopoly when they had a chance. Now it's too powerful I doubt regulation will ever happen - and now they are opening an amazon pharmacy too? At this rate they plan to take over every sector it's getting ridiculous... the pharmacy I will refuse to use, they have enough of my business as it is. Nice video
