The plastic thingy Ellie had was a menstrual cup. A reuasble cup that collects period blood and you just wash and reuse. A lifesaver in the apocalypse since tampons and pads would be hard to find.
I really appreciate the fact that they don't shy away from the fact that Ellie is a 14-year-old girl. It sounds weird when I say it like that, but most media doesn't even take the time to think about how periods would work in the apocalypse. Like it is an aspect of survival, and they never talk about it.

Joel sacrificed a lot for Tommy, when Tommy was off in the middle of the apocalypse thinking he was some kind of superhero. Joel was there having his back constantly. Kind of a betrayal on Tommy’s part to go find himself a utopian settlement in the middle of nowhere and not let Joel and Tess know so that they could join. Not to mention that someone had to tell Maria the stories of what Joel did, and Maria definitely demonized him for it when Tommy was just as guilty.
at least he could send one last message over the radio and say that he has found a safe place and that he is all right. Anyway tommy is the last one who can preach since he was IN THE ARMY before the apocalypse even started

This episode gave me a whole different view of Joel. A strong man but a broken man in PAIN
Ellie being so confrontational because she can smell what's happening here, which is there's something going on with Maria, where she doesn't like Joel, Ellie can sense that.
The podcast of the episode 6 explained that.

What a phenomenal episode man. It adapted my second favorite scene in the game perfectly. And Bella's acting is improving tremendously.

Bella at first I wasn’t sure about, but then she absolutely won me over, but I still had my doubts about the “bedroom” scene, because in the trailer it had audio of her first bit of that, and it just didn’t sound good. That’s one of, if not THE most important scene in the game. But when she delivered the “everybody…except for f***ing you!” line, not only did she give a replica performance but with a slight bit of her own twist, but she absolutely NAILED/KILLED it. Perfection.
You realize scenes aren't shot in chronological order right? It's very likely this scene was shot early in filming so how exactly is she improving? It's not like she's "getting better" as the series goes on, she's been had this in her bag.

He has a hard time saying how he feels, but if she was really “cargo”, my mans would’ve left her with To,my and not looked back. Their bond is so beautiful and to see how much it’s grown over time is very nice. They only have each other in this world. And Ellie is infected but it’s not something you can smell….

first episode, the neighbor's dog sensed the old lady was infected. no one had to train the dog to do anything; it didn't alert them to Ellie because she isn't infected. The detector merely picked up on the cordyceps in her body.
And you got to realize it took about half a year to reach Tommy. Only to find out you didn't have to make the trip. Marlene would have never asked Joel to take Ellie cause Joel would not have been looking for that battery.

Dogs actually can pick up in changes in our vitals and scent so to an extent yes, Dogs can smell out diseases, there are cases of them detecting early cancer in the real world
I never played the game. However, I feel like Bella is fucking killing the role, her and Pedros relationship is such an awesome constant in this world (I have been spoiled in season two). Great episode!

23:45 Am I the only one who is scared from the way how Ellie got down from the horse, from the back?! Like, it could have been her last scene in her life!
Well, it's likely a perfectly trained Hollywood horse & it is easier for a small person to slide from the back than the stirrups of a saddle. If you are worried about the kick of a horse, you should always hug the back end of the horse when you go behind one. If it was to get spooked and kick you, it cannot wind up a full force kick. People will stay 1 meter away from the horses' rear because they are scared but they are in fact putting themselves in a lethal kick range by doing that.
i'm guessing they desensitized the horse to that sort of stuff (essentially making it "bomb proof"). they can't have horses that spook at everything during a post-apocalyptic situation like this one.
Something that I noticed as well, in the last shot the horse is perfectly still and one leg looks kinda strange. I think in the last seen with the camera flying away, it is maybe stunt figure instead of a real horse.
@Sythrin Maybe it’s the same stand-in horse replica they were rocking back and forth as Joel and Ellie rode away and Ellie fired her gun at their pursuers. Cheesy shot but I guess most people focus on the shooting. But I can not unsee it 😂
It's actually not that uncommon in real life lol, people do it at shows and competitions all the time to show off how calm the horse is, since it takes a lot of training and trust to be able to do that without even twitching an ear. And irl it's definitely a VERY very well trained stunt horse that's used to far crazier things happening around it lol

7:56 That was months ago. The last time Ellie was scanned was 3 weeks after she was bit. At that time, the Cordyceps were still alive in her body, though they were likely already dying. I say that because Ellie wasn't turning and the scar on her forearm hasn't gotten any bigger. It looks like Ellie's immune system did to the Cordyceps what the Cordyceps wanted to do to her brain, wall them off, protecting her from the invader. Life needs food to live, and seeing how Ellie is still Ellie, her body successfully cut the Cordyceps off from control and sustenance. 3 months without food should result in a dead organism trapped inside a barrier--dead and encased in a barrier is likely why the dog can't smell the Cordyceps.
24:14 Tell'em, man! The entire cast has been great, but this series would be nothing without Bella and Pedro. Those online talking about who HBO should cast for season two need to chill--HBO's got this! They know what they're doing, and they're doing it well.
There's a lengthy snow level in the game where you play as Ellie right after Joel gets hurt.

Pat might have had a point with the dog. In ancient times people would put soot on a donkey's tail and hide the donkey in a cave with no light. An accused person would be told to pull on the tail to reveal their guilt or innocence, and the donkey would bray if the suspect was guilty. However, the real test was looking at the person's hands after they came out of the cave. If they had soot on their hands, they were probably innocent because they went for it without fear, but if their hands were clean, they didn't touch the tail because they were afraid their crime would be revealed.
Maybe the people were watching the response of Joel and Ellie here more than any specific tell the dog had. Ellie being happy and playing with the dog might have been the key; her behaving as an uninfected person would gave them the sign that she isn't infected (even though, as was pointed out, the machine said that she technically is).
I feel like Jerry nd Rob it treating this kinda like TWD, whereas DC, Pat nd Wellz are actually treating it like TLOU.

There is a fun theory on the internet that Ellie has a different type of fungus compared to the main one and that is why she is immune, she is already technically infected but with something else so the other one can't infect her.
Think that's why she's immune or form a immunity or cure to it.
Neil B said he's written a story about Elle' mom. Who was infected while Pregnant. The fungus mutated in Elle.

you guys gave some good reasons, but, i think, Joel was the way he was with Tommy early on, because Tommy now had everything Joel had (and lost) at the beginning before the Pandemic. remember the first episode when we met Tommy, Joel remarked that Tommy was Dependent on Joel to make a living and survive, Joel also had to go get Tommy out of jail. now, Tommy is doing good, child on the way and Joel has now realized he has become Old Tommy but, Tommy isn't treating him any sorta way that Joel kinda did to him back in the day. keep in mind when Joel was breakin down in front of Tommy, from Joels point of view, he couldn't protect and lost his daughter, same with Tess, now the fear of the same thing happening to Ellie, internally, is more than he can handle. did you see the very end, Ellie gently caresses Joels face.

Ellie confronted Joel in a way that lacked empathy and was way too direct; she used that information to give her perspective but she handled it very poorly. You just don't do that to people you care about.

Maria isn't a fan Joel's influence on Tommy to the point it literally ruins their marriage in Part 2. In the games Jackson didn't exist yet and Tommy still ghosted Joel. Maria was part of the reason why. She's not a fan based on the stories Tommy has told her.

I been checking the channel occasionally for some years. I used to defend Rob against the haters because his perspective was genuinely different and I don't require everyone to think the same.
