the interviewer is john frusciante's wife and snares and frusciante have been collaborators / friends for many years, that probably has something to do with it
From an email I sent to a friend one morning: [Jan 9, 2019, 840am] Just woke up from a long dream where I went hillwalking/camping in deeside [Scotland] and somehow strayed 'over the border' into Canada and ended up accidentally getting to crash at Aaron Funk's house. I woke up early the next morning and had a look around, listened to some of his stuff, looked through his clothes for some reason, found a matchbox with lots of little knots of hash, suddenly realised it was after 1pm and I was probably outstaying my welcome so packed my rucksack. He came upstairs and had a fit of laughter when he realised I was still there, listened politely while I gushed with fanboyism for a moment and took a quick vid of his studio, then told me nicely that I really couldn't hang around much longer as he had people over. Best. Dream. Ever.
Anybody know if Aaron is doing well? I’m just asking because I have appreciated his music for many years now. As far as I can see, he has not released anything or been active online for several years. Maybe he decided to take his life in a direction not associated with producing music? But based on the available info about him, that’s hard to imagine. Anyway, all the best to him in any case ✌️
I mean its been a while but i remember him droppping "Thank You For Your Consideration" in 2015 originally as a fundraiser because the electric bill from producing "Traditional Synthesizer Music" was so steep he couldn't handle it by himself. Or at least that's how i remember it, could be wrong so don't take that as a fact. The music he produces simply doesn't pay enough to live off of it, even for being such a huge name in the genre like him. So i'm guessing he's mostly just living and working his dayjob, producing on the side.
In 1998 the definitely were soft synths (like rebirth). So the question if he used them was not so ridiculous. But they weren't really used all that much outside of a small niche of people (like myself). They didn't really sound too great and most producers really regarded them as inferior. But It was the era were the production tools really got democratized and only a few years later everyone was on the software train.
This is the first time I've heard Aaron answer questions genuinely, very interesting stuff, so thanks for uploading it
hands down best Vsnares interview. Nobody else has the swagger to handle him.

@@cronchyshark Wow, that is not fair. Any ideas as to good ways to help support him? May sound like a stupid question, but is genuine.
This interview is amazing
I saw and heard VS in Prague maybe for 10 Minutes, it was awesome, but my friend was too drunken so we had to go, i hate him for that move.
