In this week’s vlog, I have some fun with my 2016 Retired Racehorse Project Horse Henri (who earned 2nd in the Eventing division). It’s really important to play with your horse. It builds relationship, and helps you to identify and nurture natural strengths.
In the feed room, I discuss how I use feeds from Buckeye Nutrition to tailor feeding programs to meet the specific needs of each individual horse. I don’t typically use a lot of supplements, but I have recently started using Hypona MagVet (www.hypona.com/...) to address a magnesium deficiency that we discovered in Simply Priceless after Badminton. Both highly bio available and palatable, I’ve seen tremendous results with this magnesium supplement, and am delighted to add Hypona to my list of amazing sponsors.
I’m off to the Jump Start Horse Trials this weekend for a final outing with my current Retired Racehorse Project horses, Vindicated and Fly With Me, before the Thoroughbred Makeover, which is now just two weeks away!

I hardly recognised Henry. He used to look like a skinny youngster and now he's bulked up. He looks so good.

Thanks for touching on why johnny dropped so much energy and showing you've taken steps to fix it

Loved the intro for this! I have a OTTB with presumed pelvis issues (going to get vet tests done when he comes home from his trainer); if you have time can you please share how you found out about his pelvis issues and what tests you did to find the root cause? And is there anything in particular you did on the lunge to help Henri? I love your glimpses into your Liberty work, more videos on this would be amazing if possible! Henri chasing things is so fun to watch :)

Hi Elisa, love your videos! Is there a possibility that you could make a video explaining how you teach your horses some of these things/tricks?

Hi elisa! I love how you incorporate natural horsemanship with all of your horses. Can you do some basic videos on how you start it with your ottbs? I would love to start with my young guy. Where did you learn some of your natural horsemanship? I love watching your videos!

I have an OTTB. I feed neutrena pro force, alfalfa & grass 50/50 mix. He is dappled out. Thanks for the diet tips. I know what direction to go when he needs further nutrition.

Very interesting that Johnny was low in magnesium that explains his lack of energy at badminton compared to his run at burghly he looked like a different horse. Very interesting indeed. Great to see Henri he looks fantastic, how many hands is he ? Lear is a laugh full of character luckily it wasn't a saddle he rolled on!

Elisa Wallace thank you for making this video. I to have a thoroughbred filly that just can’t gain weight. And we tried different feed and supplements and just never worked. We even tripled her feed. And can you give me some advice. My filly has been jumping for a 9 months, every time we come in contact to a jump all she wants to do is bolt after it and then misses the jump with her front legs. So I’m hoping you can give some advice on what we should do to get her out of that habit. I just don’t want her to get hurt at 4 years old. Plus she is my first thoroughbred to ever train by myself. I don’t want her to get hurt or me get hurt while jumping.

Yes ....did you have a vet check out your horse pretty soon after you got them halter or before I know they've already had dewormers shots and cogins test negative of course. .but just for soundness?

Buckeye is a great feed I use it on my thoroughbred. Be careful with the cadence ultra though on a high strung horse. My thoroughbred became a monster on cadence not manageable. I switched to EQ8 GUT HEALTH & he is fine & level headed now. I think it has something to do with the fat content that made him extremely hot!

NBF1865 my horses do best with cadence ultra and straight alfalfa, especially with there work loads. Buckeye is great as they have something for everyone. I have also found if they are lacking in energy they become uptight and hot. At least with my 8 OTTBS.

Are mustangs easy keepers ? Im going thru all the processes to get a mustang and I know nobody really with a mustang so not exactly sure what to feed . greatful for all your videos . I know that all horses are different and I know some mustangs don't exactly care for some foods and I know some mustangs are really easy keepers and don't need to many supplemental feeds just daily feeds and grass and hay ...not sure what brand either. ..right now I just have a pony ....my 23 year old died last summer I fed him dumor and he seemed to enjoy it but I was very happy with buckeye for my pony (when he got sick the vet recommended buckeye ) it was fabulous so not 100% sure .....thanks of all the videos

Gracie Williams generally speaking yes. After they have adjusted to domestic life. Especially on the east coast you have to be careful they don't get overweight or founder.
