Deep Cleaning The Ninja Foodi-I Didn't Clean It for One Month! Will It Come Clean?

  • As you can see this air crisping lid on the Ninja Foodi is yucky and disgusting! I did't clean my Ninja Foodi for over a month to test some of the ways people clean their Ninja Foodi's. But the question remains will it come clean? I did read online on how people clean their Ninja Foodi's and decided on lemon water and Dawn-as Dawn breaks up grease and gets it out of you way-lol. I love Dawn the stuff really works and will never buy another dishwashing soap-well as long as they continue to make it.
I wasn't expecting this video to be as long as it is but I wanted to show you the details on how to clean you Ninja Foodi.
Maybe someday I will take it apart but as far as I know that. would void my warranty.

I simply put 2 cups of water in the cooking pot. Heat on air/crisp for 20 mins and wait. When done all the grease and burnt particles are in the water. I did mine 2x and there was no gunk on the fan area, it was all in the water!

It would be nice if the heater grate(just made up a name for it) clipped in or turn and lock it in-so you could just pop it out and clean it. I have removed it using a torx bit it worked but with a little bit more work. Thanks Rose!

This is a great community discussion. I just bought the NF 8qt. (I am 5'5" tall and my counter is 35 1/4" high and recently lost the use of my left arm due to an accident-thank goodness for the hinged Foodi lid!). And will either use lemon or vinegar to steam basket, lids and all after every use. I have a sponge paint brush that slips under the cage nicely. But rest assured my electrician hubby will be removing those screws for a fan clean when it needs it. One of the things we have lost in a throw-away mind set is common sense and tool/appliance management. People used to make a living repairing toasters & pots. All my large appliances are 25-30 years old because Maytags made in the states were ALL easy to repair. My clothes dryer is 46 1/2 years old. And rest assured my engineering brain did a thorough review of all available similar appliances before I bought the Foodi. I have two 20 amp plug-ins under my St. Charles kitchen cabinets; and I got the power! 1800 watts at a 15 amp normal modern kitchen outlet. The 1400 watt 6.5 Foodi is best for most kitchens and use a plug-in not in series or tied together with another outlet carrying a shared electrical load. That is, unplug your Keurig while the NF is running. And if I need the distance, a 12 gauge or heavier, 3 ft. extention cord will reach my 20 amp outlet just fine. Otherwise, you may find a high quality surge suppressor with a switch will help quickly reset any breaker tripping. Most things in life have a trade-off. Peace.

Thanks Deb- sorry about your arm. And you are so right about appliances. We have become a throw away society. I have taken the Foodi apart over Thanksgiving week and if cleaned up nice. But general maintenance is your best bet. Boil some water then add vinegar let it sit with AC lid down for 25 minutes then wipe/clean. Great idea on the extension. Thanks Deb!

Great video. We've had our ninja foodi 9-1 for almost a year and wondered how to clean the top fan. Grease was falling off the black cover with the edge of a spoon but until we did the process of hot water and lemons and plenty of elbow grease once cooled the grime came off the pot and basket. The lid grease just dribbled off. Will be making this a regular thing!

I air fry the lemon water for about 20 minutes after I cook greasy food. I do let it sit and steam if it’s extra sticky after the air fry cycle. Then I wipe it out and use a sponge paint brush to get in the nooks and crannies. The more often you do it the easier it is! Of course as you said, life gets in the way sometimes

Cleaning the top of the air fryer is so challenging. I love this way steaming with lemons. I'll have to try that. Mine is a Cook's Essential and has a cover over the fan and heat element. I know it's terrible behind there, but the cover is not designed to come off. The basket I wash every time, but the top is really an issue.

I just close. the cover and let the steam do its job on the lid then set it sit for 10-15 minutes and then clean the top. Works great! Thanks Pattymac Makes!

Started out with the 3 screws securing the ''heater grate'' as you say, then the fan itself and in the end, I have destroyed the whole thing. I had it for less than a year, £200 right in the bin.
Decided to buy a new one and now, I'd say I would only remove the 3 screws to have more access to the fan. It is quite easy and it won't bring you any problems, I think. I would never go beyond the 3 screws though, never again.lol

Great video. These are all good ideas to clean these types of appliances. However, I really think these manufacturers need to make it easier for consumer to clean all the components that get grease buildup. It’s both a safety hazard and a health hazard if you can’t get all the components properly cleaned from all the grease buildup. I have an InstaPot duo with the air fryer lid, and I have had a hard time getting it cleaned properly. Keep up the good work on your video.

IN MY OPINION, you will only void the warranty if you remove the small screws around the far outside. Removing the 4 that hold the black guard in place shouldn't have any impact on the warranty. They are made for taking the black grill out. I think if Ninja sees this they would tell you to PLEASE just take the black grill off and not to jab that metal rod brush in around the heating element.

Thanks for taking one for the Team. LOL It would be so much easier to clean if you took it apart, but you made a very valid and important point for not doing that. Voiding the warranty and that you want to avoid touching the fan as you might upset the balance. I would think that a weekly or bi-weekly steaming, and light scrub with a small brush would work in most cases. Great to see that it can come back after a worst case situation. I will probably give it a go this weekend with some scented vinegar that I have on hand . Another great and informative video that will help any Foodi owner. Thanks again, Lisa.
