A cheerful loud guy in Germany... must be an American!
Love you Kenny. Those flat nose semis are what my Grandpa referred to as "cab overs" because the cab literally sits over the engine. And in between the two seats he called that the "dog house"
@@ericmcatee1231 yeah they tend to call them forward control these days.
HGV heavy goods vehicles.
They use the term articulated a lot and lorries or hgv instead of truck. There are a few Pete's and kw around. I think they are flat floor now.
One of my favorite cabover trucks is the Kenworth Aerodynes. Famous truck from BJ and the Bear.
Long nose ones called conventional
@@seanyakel6102 in the US that would be conventional. In Europe just about all commercial trucks are cab over engine design.
Thanks Herman for the cool Germany tour. Safe travels home.
The cabover was my first truck in Kentucky, in 1986. A 1984 Ford CL 9000! Thanks for letting us tag along!
I'm glad you're having fun Kenny
I lived in Germany for three years circa 1965-1968. The cost per gallon was over $5 back then. a liter is a bit bigger than a quart.
When I was a kid in the 90s up to about the 2010s when i got my first vehicle, i remember being able to pump gas before paying here in midwest iowa. It used to be a different world then. However I was able to do it at a rural town in nebraska a few years back.
Hurricane Katrina in 05 was about the time they started the pre pay crap. You're right. It's a different world now. Hopefully prices will start going down now that Trump is in the White House... MAGA
It's still ESSO like it was here in Maine until sometime in the 70s when it changed to EXXON.
Still is in Canada too.
Keep us homies informed Herm. Thanks for the coffee and one sided conversation. Right up your alley. 😊
Cab over trucks of Scania, Inveco, Man and MBs. Kenworth, International, Ford, Freightliner and Mack had cabovers here. Four tires and fuel for Frankfurt. :)
Ford still builds cabovers in Germany
Nice to see Americans daring to go outside of USA and find how good the rest of the world is. It is such a pity that they have to over stae everything though . Apparantly ,He found fuel stations --AMAZING !
Safe travels Kenny!
Cab Over Trucks were popular in the USA when there were length restrictions.
You didn't show the price of gas per Liter. 4.78 Liters to the gallon.. $6.00 per gallon for gas but Health care is supposed to be Free. Also the 20% VAT tax ..
If they catch with on a traffic camera they take the cost of the fine out of your Bank account automatically .
3.785 L per us gallon
Wallace, go get you some sauerkraut!
Outdoor laundry mat, wow. ☕👍
Yeah ok, if it’s not snowing, it’s been snowing in Milton, they set a record of 8 inches of snow I think, and it was set it 1953 4 . Somthing inch of snow in Milton , lol that’s right, BigAl California thanks
Love Germany. A civilization where you are expected to behave and will be trusted, once. Enjoy it.
Lmao you just don't have any rights.
@coletrain3333 uhhhhh tell me you have never been to Germany without telling me.
@@twozer0x don't need to just see the videos of people getting the door kicked in for a meme lmao. If it stays on the same track Germany won't exist in 10 years or less.
We are like that here in Canada gas up go in and pay , unless you decide to pay at the pump.
@@doubledcanada Yeah you guys are effed too......
Mornin' guys ☕️
You should have also shown us the deli/bistro in the truck stop, it's a full-on bakery. Well most of them are. When I would stop and get gas, I would take pictures of the food/deli in the gas station, it was incredible.
Flat nose trucks are popular in Australia, we have length limits, so they use them on the B doubles and triples with the multiple trailers. We also pay after pumping mist of the time, some stations require pre-paying at night
Thank you Kenny for sharing your amazing trip of Germany. Safe travels home. ❤
That's roughly what we pay in Canada. In Canada we are paying $3.50/gallon. Majority of it being taxes.
Gas that costs $1.50 per liter is about $4.86 per gallon. Average current across Canada is $154.1
K.W., as to your question of, "Have you ever?" I answer in my Darrell Wallace voice @ the end of the famous and incredibly wild 2003 Kurt Busch- Ricky Craven finish @ Darlington Raceway- "No I've never!" lol
That Larry Mac impression is so funny I spit out my coffee 🤣🤣🤣
Wait till you see a Mercedes hearse.... saw one in Italy. They are simply amazing looking
Sure but I don't want to be the one in it though.
Lol,lol !
Thanks Herman! You sure are a down to earth person.
Us people here in the St Louis Metropolitan Area Are all good people, ive met Kenny a few times., when I was Dirt Racing, hes a Cool dude and reminds me of myself , High Octane 😂🎉🏁🏁🏁🤘🤘
I'm so glad you get to do this and share with us that we won't get to do. Sending love to you and ki .❤❤❤❤❤❤
gas is about the same price regular per litre 1.49 super is 1.73 here where i live in Quebec Canada in montreal can be as high as 1.70 / litre for regular, reason taxes
The way it was in America in the 70’s! Man those were the good old days
Brings back memories of the good ole days when I was in the Army in Germany from 1959 to 1961 when Elvis Presley was there. I liked the autobahn back then because there was no speed limit on it. I saw a man in a Porsche running about 150 MPH when he passed our three quarter Army truck. When they wrecked you had to pick them out of the top of the trees. LOL I spent one night on the Tarmac of the Frankfort Airport sleeping in a sleeping bag in a pup tent with all my clothes on when it was 22 degrees below zero. You could scrape the ice off the pup tent with your fingers. Gasoline was a lot more back then in Germany than it was in the USA.
I immediately knew that was an Exxon station. The pumps gave it away before anything else.
Esso...
@elonkuva Esso is ExxonMobil in Europe
@@elonkuva Esso is ExxonMobile in Europe
@ Exxon is Esso in European countries
Thats the way it was here in the 70-80’s.
Because it was more civilized back then…
You're at an Exxon (Esso) station with Sunoco as the sponsor! Ha!
I love seeing the differences between the US and Germany: The trust in pump before you pay (I remember that in the US in the 90s), the outside laundry services and the Bistro inside. Very cool!
That's how it was when I was much younger. Pump, then pay. If the attendant wasn't standing nearby, ya walked in and paid. Pumps had a handle on the side. Full-serve they pumped your gas, checked your oil level, tire pressure, washed F & B windshields and sometimes even the headlights! For another 10-25 cents per gallon.
Our gas stations in Maine are pay after you pump
I pay afterwards in Michigan to. Most are pre pay unless they know you though.
I served in freidburg , ran a 5 ton every day, so you passed the test,
Nice to see you in Germany. I live about 30 km north of Frankfurt. To be honest, I've never seen the outdoor washing machines, but I usually try to avoid gas stations on the Autobahn. They are much more expensive than gas stations in cities or in the countryside. When I was in the USA, the first time I was too stupid for fueling. I didn't understand this system. Have a safe trip home
Did you drive away after filling Up ??? If you did thats hilarious. But from what you know you didn't know you was doing anything wrong !!! Germany is Beautifull, im a US person, and im NOT a Trump and Elon fan, I didn't Vote for them, but I knew going in, he was going to cheat to win, I hope the TRUTH comes Out And they get Justice !!!! God bless !!! 🍻🏁
I was in Army in Giessen, Germany when Elvis Presley was in Army in Germany too. Elvis must have been stationed in a city very close to where you live North of Frankfort. He was stationed at Ray Kaserne barracks in Friedberg!
@@jerryw4471 Yes, when I drive to the Supermarket I drive through the "Elvis Presley roundabout" (Kreisel) in Friedberg
Yeah, Kenny, good thing we didn't fall for that metric trickery they were pushing on us back in the '70s, we'd be payin' for gas by the quart, too, lol. Enjoy every second of your time in Germany, Kenny, and historical anecdote, the stretch of autobahn between Frankfurt and Darmstadt was used to set world speed records back in the '30s. Germans and Italians weren't playin' when it came to fast cars.
I believe they include the truck length along with the trailer length to set their standards in Germany... so no big sleeper cabins. In the US, they measure them differently so they can go nuts on the truck. At least when I was in Germany and googled it... I believe I read something along those lines. 😂Also, for Kilometers... you x it by .62 to get the miles or mph conversion. I think when I was in Germany I would just cut the km in half and add a little bit to get a rough idea. Or when you saw a 120 kmp sign you can kind of figure on that being 70mph. Of course as soon as I got back to the good ole US of A I forgot all that stuff instantly. 😂
All cabovers in Europe. They have length laws like we used to so they can’t have conventionals because of it. The cabover is dead hear because of the claims for injury climbing in and out. Too many workers comp claims and insurance claims ran them out in the US.
What a shame ,never mind ,We'll get by in Europe ,although our trucks don't have a bedroom suite behind the driver .
Those are cab over trucks usually used because of government length regulations. They were popular in the United States until our laws were changed around the late 90's
But these new cab overs by Scania, Mercedes or Iveco ride like a Rolls Royce compared to the Frieghtliner or Mack.
Go get them Kenny
Thanks for showing us around, I have never seen an outdoor laundromat!
Hell...... Gas is 6 bucks a gallon here in Ontario and Diesel is more yet
51st state.....
@@beckyumphrey2626 I agree!!!
I enjoyed watching your travels
same here in Canada , 6 to 8 $ per gallon , by the litre
The best thing about those cabover semis the driver is the first one at the scene of the accident 😬ups run the MAC cabovers for years and years
UPS runs electric cabovers in Germany now.
Wow not in NY. 😂sorry to say. Love your videos. I don’t think I would ever get to Germany lol
The laundry outside are everywhere here in the Netherlands.. and yeah the fuel is around 7.50 +- a gallon over here.. 😢
Have a nice trip home..
Greetings from the Netherlands..
René..
And yeah.. thats normal you can pay afterwards..
How do they keep from freezing?
What did I notice about all the tractor trailers? I didn't see a Hermes truck.
@0:40 Yes, but they have set up surveillance cameras as well in order to proof theft. Let alone that cash is still a thing.
You could have taken us on a bit of a road trip. the roads require short trucks to get through.
We used to post pay in usa a long long time ago.
It's been about 20 years, around here. There's still a small number of stations where you can pay after, but it's only like 1-2 stations.
Hey Herman, when I lived abroad in Ireland they had outdoor washer and dryers at the gas station there as well.
In France you will find very often outdoor washers on parking lots of hyper markets🤡😂🤣😂
Enjoy your coffee Kenny 😊
All the trucks are cabovers. The Frankfurt train station is famous for the ceiling. Stop by and look up. That is a quick trip.
Awesome. Im a Kiwi living in Switzerland and just love trips though Germany on the Autobahn. See if you can fit in a night drive. Totally new perspective and less trucks. Also a lot of those trucks are now electric. They just do battery swaps instead of recharges
🤔 interesting...not a bad idea , a laundry for truckers except here unfortunately they'd be constantly broken into
…and graffiti.
Because why be decent and have nice things?
Have a good flight see you in Volusia
I live in Ellijay Ga about 75 miles North of Atlanta there’s a few service stations here were you can still fill up than pay In Gilmer county
At least you aren’t holding that big Sunoco mug for 15 minutes!!😆😂🤣
It was like that where I am until just recently
Time 242
" . . .remember , it is per quart, they call it Liter . .. " 🙃
Yes one liter is about one US liquid quart.
Awesome I hope to see you at Valusa speedway
1.60 the cheapest price is usely diesel, regular gasoline is usually around 10 cents higher
Talk about doing your laundry in public 😂😂
Cab Overs Kenny, that's what those trucks are called in America.
Thanks for the tour learn something to dat gas is high as hell over there
Good stuff Herm, 6 bucks a gallon, wow wee
I was in Germany last summer and had the same question at the gas station. How do you pay? Also, I was back in Germany in December driving at night from Cologne (Klon) to Frankfurt in a FWD VW. My wife says, why is the road white? At the higher elevations snow had fallen but there was so much grip I didn't notice. Everyone was still doing 90+. The tires on that rental car were amazing and the salt the roads.
Cologne=Köln and NOT Klon🤡😂🤣😂
Yes in Germany you are expected to follow the rules... so yes you pay at the end... and yes you pay market prices for fuel... but you also have crib to grave full state health care and housing so not a bad deal if you think about... also how many homeless did you see? How many ghettos? None...
A lot of their roads weren’t laid out for a 70’ long semi in mind. Sometimes I wish mine was tiny like that but the idea of being on our third world highways in a short wheelbase truck is unimaginable. It would beat you to death
Standardsemis are maximal 61' 6" and long semis are maximal 81' 10" long in Europe🤡🤣😂🤣
Go take a lap around the Nurburgring!!!
Its all taxes. Also same here in the U.S. In Ohio you pay around .70 a gallon tax.
You need to head south to Munich and drink some real BEER.....
Hey, Herm - was that gas price in USD? If so, then they they pay more for plain ol' pump-gas than we pay for 100 octane av-gas over here!
those are washers NOT WORshers LOL btw, gas is over $7 a gallon
@@PastorStephenPiersall I love your reply. Where are you at $7.00 a gallon. In Barnesville ga it’s 3.00 at gallon lol 😆
Flat nose trucks are more manuvable(?) than conventional but ride a lot rougher riding. I guess it’s a bit easier in a cabover when you have to drive in tight spaces. Have fun Herman the German. 😆
We had Cab over engine trucks here in the states till the mid to late 90's then they vanished! poof gone! almost over night. there's still a few old ones running the roads but few and far between. they were easier to work on in many respects, and were better in close quarters ,
you should see them guys trying to jockey them long nose rigs down at the produce row off market street, lots of hoods and fenders damaged and torn off down there.
They don't thrust us, they just find you in like a 10 min after not paying xd and if u are really ready to run and to risk it u ain't doing it for 50E of diesel :D and 1.64 in germany is kinda fine for standard, like it's high but tolerable :D
Why is the dryer first???
Cab-over Kenny. Cab-over trucks dont have a nose. Our roads are too rough for them. They use them in Europe vs conventional (nosed) trucks because they're shorter wheelbase makes them more maneuverable in tight spaces
Sorry everyone. I'm part of the reason we have to pay before we pump. Back in the day (1985ish) when I was broke my nephew and I took our 'TOUR ON AMERICA'. We would pull up, fill up and take off. We were also dine and dashers. Part of the reason I am a very large tipper nowadays. We had an especially close call at the Pizza Hut buffet in Daytona Beach. I was a star track and fielder and I'll be dang if the guy chasing me was almost as fast as I was My nephew was driving and I had to jump through the passenger side window just like in the movies or that guy might have caught me Glad it was before the internet or else I might be an internet star. It was fun but I don't miss those days.
LOL
Japan has restaurants with fresh food but in machines, not coin machines, you pay by scanning receipt on way out, self serve, nobody there. People out of sight preparing, maintaining.
Check out some Japan videos, they're wild.
They are all cabover tractors, not too many conventional tractors in Europe, and yes they are mostly Mercedes or Sania.
Based on the pump screen behind you, at the beginning of your vid.. It was $1.77 per liter! That must be Euros, no?
I've been thinking about going to Italy, any food recommendations and places to go to recommendations would be awesome
One of the key principals of the United States culture is that the way people in the United States think is that if something happens that does not happen in the United States other than a war or natural disaster, to Americans that means that it never happened. People in the United States know nothing about the rest of the world (and how different it can be than the United States). While in other countries I recommend keeping an eye out for things different than the United States.
I hop over the dutch border for my petrol as it's still cheaper in Germany than in the Netherlands.
Also alcohol and tobacco are a lot cheaper in Germany.
The price of gas is because of taxes by the government. And the flat nose semis are because of government regulations on the length of the cab + trailer.
1995 gas was $1.15 per liter there and less than a $1.00 in St. Louis!
The petrol is more expensive, are the vehicles more fuel efficient?
@@philorndorff2294 yes and smaller engines.
The trucks are all Cab-overs and 0 conventional. In Italy, they serve alcohol at rest stops😮. At least they did when I was there in '83.
USA ain’t like that Kenny shock shock
Kenny washer and dryer outside. Them truckers are in heaven. Come home safe Kenny and John
No Sunoco's in Germany?
Try Canada gas. We are in liters as well. Quart is .9 litres
I thought gas prices were crazy here. 1.75 euros per liter or 6.61 Euros per gallon. That translates to $6.93 per gallon. Of course it’s probably a way better quality and let their vehicles be cleaner/last longer but still
No Sunoco in Germany eh? Hahaha looks too much like an Exon! Looks like one of the truck/travel plazas off of our toll roads in the US or Canada. I believe their manuals transmission trucks are all synchronized. No fun it that. Rev matching is an art and im quite good at it!😊
Always funny when folks are complaining about US fuel prices. We’d kill to have gas that cheap here in Europe.
taxes.
imported commodity.
biden’s war on russia.
Is that Deutsche Marks? Or euro? Duetschemarks would make that about the same as US$, euro would make that about the same as other socialist countries like california
@@fishhuntadventureIn Germany Euros are in use since 2002 and spare the world the crap with the socialist countries. Learn the difference between social behavior and socialism. The USA has forgotten social behavior and replaced it with egoism.🤡🤣😂🤣
