EMDR saved my life and i dont hear about it nearly enough, especially for people like us that sometimes physically cant express our emotions. big props to my therapist at the time for realizing I can't properly express myself through speech all the time.
Me too, so insightful and so interesting. I only discovered the channel in the last few months in a bid to help my son who is 6 years old and I believe he has autism and ADHD. I have learned so much from watching this podcast and in all honesty I never realised that I share a lot of traits with my son until I started looking into it to help him. I'm glad that I will be well equipped to deal with any problems that he may have going forwards. The hardest part is he masks so heavily that his school teachers do not see the behaviours that we see at home. Since the start of the summer holidays my son has been stimming so heavily because he is safe to do so at home, my guess is that he doesn't feel that he can do those things at school. Times can be hard but I'm glad I understand him and have empathy and patience to help him along the way 😊😊 thank you Alex for this amazing podcast!
I'm seeing a mental health professional on Thursday and nervous, it's a needs assessment and I want to be tested for ADHD. What should I say? Any advice please? I'm 47 and have known since I was a child there was something different about me and my behaviours. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. EXTREMELY HELPFUL 🙏 😊
I wasn’t blessed with any help whatsoever when I had my first baby and my second baby, I also didn’t know I had ADHD back then either. But being a Mum helped me because it gave me direction, I sure as hell didn’t have any set schedules lol, but as they grew older and had to be at school at a particular time, I had to get up and get them ready and this made me think I was an organised person like all the other Mums. Except for one thing, which was I don’t think I ever got my kids to school on time, not ever 🥴😱🤦🏻♀️🤣
I’m seeing myself in her, and I was late diagnosed with autism and ADHD. Auditory processing differences particularly had me thinking that. But also her dynamism, facial expressions, body language are exaggerated like me.
I don't believe this woman's experience is typical of most people's adhd experience. She is privileged and rich. She can clearly mask and has great support. Good family relationships. Most of us do not have any of this. Watching this just makes me feel angry, depressed, and frustrated. I have trouble believing she even has adhd. Regardless, she's had a charmed life. I am annoyed that the measure of success for adhd ers is how well they can mask. This is still in step with the system in place that a) does not accept us for who we are and b) only wants us to become like them or be rejected. I'm not finding this particular podcast helpful. We are still forcing adhd people to assimilate under the duress of being ejected from society. Belonging is a basic human need. One of the 5 of which without, we die. It's in Maslows hierarchy. Our society would rather let people who don't " fit in" (pass for worker bees) die than have compassion to accept them. They want to eliminate us unless we show up like her. Why should we even bother? It is heart breaking to know that no matter the medication we take, the self-regulation techniques, how much we mask, my son and I will never be welcomed and accepted,we will never belong, until and if we get an injection of "rich", like this woman. I'm feeling devalued by this one.
Hi there! @kpar. I’m so sorry you and your son are struggling so much and you are feeling like success is out of your reach. I do have ADHD. I have struggled more than you can imagine, and have not shared all of these struggles on this podcast. I am here to empower others as much as I have empowered myself overtime. I do believe there is hope for everyone. Again, I’m sorry you feel so strongly about how this isn’t possible for you, but know that there is hope for you and your son and I believe with time you will find the right support for both of you!.
@@poppylindsay6425I respectfully disagree. I think everyone has different struggles, but the cause of it is clear - it's not something to accept as "it is what it is." No. Socialism would fix everything. Capitalism is the problem. Rich ppl. It's inequality. We will never have a good time until the money and land etc are taken from the narcissistic elites at the top and given to the people. Then we can have decent lives and fulfill our needs. I want to contribute to society. Capitalism doesn't care about me at all unless I'm suffering at an awful job, or creating a company and hiring others to do everything for me.

I definitely jealous she had a nurse for 2 weeks to help with the new mom job.
